Chapter 929, Unstoppable Momentum
Chapter 929, Unstoppable Momentum
Zakaria found it somewhat absurd.
They've actually tried to use a decapitation strike on me?
He had, of course, obtained information about the previous ground battles.
But to be honest, he didn't care that much.
He certainly knew that a powerful Space Marine who had slashed through his own Chaos Warriors on the ground was the biggest contributor to humanity's victory in the previous airborne operation.
However, there are some subtle information errors here.
No specific footage of Martins hacking people was transmitted from the previous battle. The Chaos forces suffered a major defeat, and few of the thousands of Chaos Space Marines who fought on the ground survived.
The lack of footage means that Zakaria didn't witness firsthand how Mattins brutally slaughtered his warriors; the fact that almost no skilled fighters survived also means that no one of sufficient authority reported to Zakaria just how formidable Mattins was.
Of course, it's not that there isn't a single living person who witnessed Mattins's killing; at least some Chaos soldiers who watched from afar have survived to this day.
Those who were fortunate enough to survive to the end of the war had little to report, so they just talked about how terrible, tall, and heroic Martins was, how he slaughtered the Chaos Space Marines like pigs, one by one... How could Zakaria easily believe that?
What's going on? Does that mean a child of God has come to Papalil?
so funny.
Of course, Zakaria didn't underestimate his opponent. Although he believed the survivors' exaggerated claims were largely exaggerated, even if the exaggeration was removed, that false emperor's henchman should indeed possess considerable strength.
A top warrior among the chapter champions? Or perhaps... a chosen champion?
But whatever the situation, he is confident that he can handle it.
The White Wolf King was the most powerful of the pack, a self-perception he always held.
If he didn't have enough strength, what courage would he have to covet the position of War Commander in a chaotic force where strength reigns supreme and the struggles are extremely fierce?
He was one of the top warriors in the Chaos, possessing the strength of a chosen champion.
Not to mention, after cooperating with Bassol, he worked extremely hard to complete the mission. Among the many Calamity Fleets, the one he commanded was the most proactive and efficient. He retrieved many 'things' and, in addition to completing the tasks assigned by Alchaton, accomplished many more extra missions.
Bassor generously rewarded those extra tasks and the additional 'things' he retrieved.
These rewards range from incredibly powerful sacred artifacts to blessings with minimal cost, and from special abilities that can either save lives or enable extreme offensive attacks...
His already formidable personal strength, combined with these numerous enhancements, made him virtually invincible!
You could call him arrogant, but he truly believes that unless he personally encounters an opponent like a Son of God or the Chaos Warmaster Alchaton, he is invincible!
Furthermore, he fervently believed that he still had great potential for growth and would inevitably reach a higher level in the future.
Some random champion just pops up and tries to use some kind of decapitation tactic, and they even managed to cut him off?
Simply ridiculous!
"These henchmen of the false emperor had no other choice but to come up with this suicidal plan? Let me grant his wish!"
Zakaria grinned maliciously, picked up his battle axe, and led his White Wolf Guard out of the battlefield command post.
Targeted by the decapitation tactic, he not only did not back down, but took the initiative to meet it head-on, which is a manifestation of his absolute confidence.
However, when he actually saw Martins with his own eyes, both of his hearts skipped a beat.
His imposing figure appeared even slightly taller than the Chaos Warmaster. And compared to Zakaria, he was a whole size larger!
Is this really a champion-level opponent?
He began to have some doubts about his own judgment.
If it's just a difference in appearance, then so be it. Although it's rare, we can still convince ourselves that it's just individual variation.
However, Martins was now hacking down his warriors one by one, something he had witnessed firsthand.
Are they cutting rotten fish and shrimp?
That's not true!
The moment the aerial assault troops landed, they attracted the attention of Zakaria's White Wolf Cubs.
Beside Zakaria were, of course, his most trusted elite troops—the warriors of the White Wolf Clan.
These white wolves, led by the White Wolf Guards—the very core of Zakaria's personal guard—faced the enemy.
When they first saw that the enemy numbered less than a hundred, they thought the battle was nothing more than a suicide attack by the enemy leader in desperation, a suicide mission.
But when the fight actually broke out, they found that it wasn't like that at all.
The elite White Wolf Guards were brutally attacked and killed!
From the outbreak of the battle to Zakaria's arrival on the battlefield, less than seven minutes had passed, and nearly a hundred White Wolf Guards had already been killed!
This is almost the most significant loss the White Wolf Guard has suffered in nearly a century!
What kind of combat strength do the White Wolf Guards possess? When facing an ordinary Imperial Space Marine chapter, a force of three hundred men can often hold their own against an entire chapter! Six hundred years ago, they once achieved a feat of wiping out a full-strength chapter with just one hundred and seventy men leading over four hundred ordinary wolf cubs!
Currently, Zakaria's most elite White Wolf Guards are being slaughtered in a frenzy!
The loss of one hundred men is not only the greatest loss the White Wolf Guard has suffered in the last hundred years, but this is also just the beginning, and it happened in just seven minutes!
And these killing gods who descended from the sky are continuing to increase this number!
Among the nearly one hundred human space warriors who landed, they were clearly divided into three tiers.
The largest group consisted of warriors bearing the Fire Emblem and the Phoenix Legion insignia.
This is the Honor Guard of the Phoenix Chapter, the elite of the Great Nirvana Guard. Each of them possesses the strength of a company champion, and there are at least ten chapter champions among them. No matter how powerful the ordinary White Wolf Guards are, they haven't reached this level; encountering them would basically mean being slaughtered.
The other fifteen wore platinum power armor, blue capes, and two azure phoenix wings that rose from their helmets. The armor's patterns had a classical design, making them stand out from ordinary Space Marines. They wielded long-handled swords and halberds, fighting with imposing might and strength surpassing even the Glorious Sentinels, seemingly all reaching the level of Chapter Champions.
If the Great Nirvana Guards might still be killed in battle if surrounded by multiple enemies or encountering skilled members of the White Wolf Guard, then these fifteen members of an unknown battle group were truly like gods of death. Even skilled White Wolf Guards couldn't withstand more than a few rounds before being slain. A typical three or five-on-one attack wouldn't even scratch them.
But all of these pale in comparison to the most magnificent one.
If the White Wolf Guards felt that the Imperial Guards were difficult to fight, and that their opponents were like war gods, they were still capable of fighting and could at least exchange blows after a few moves. If all else failed, there were also Chaos Champions among the White Wolf Guards who could lead a few underlings to barely put up a fight against an Imperial Guard.
However, before that most magnificent person, everything is like rotten fish and shrimp, easily discarded with a single cut.
Of the nearly one hundred White Wolf Guards who died in those seven minutes, a third were killed by him.
And they are among the most powerful third.
Having been hacked to pieces like this, even the White Wolf Guards began to feel fear, and a sense of retreat began to creep in; they seemed on the verge of collapse. Chaos Space Marines are Space Marines after all; they are not like mortals, so afraid of death or so easily demoralized.
However, Space Marines are not morale-locking mechanical units.
Sometimes they are defeated, not necessarily because they are afraid of death, but because they feel that even if they fight to the death, it is meaningless and they will just die in vain.
Just like now, when facing this group of human commandos who had landed, they had this feeling.
What's the point of so many people dying so quickly?
Useless.
Aside from killing a few Nirvana Guards, the enemy's advance continued unabated, while our own casualties continued to mount.
At this rate, the entire glorious White Wolf Guard will probably be wiped out here in less than an hour.
In terms of the exchange ratio, it would only mean killing thirty or forty Great Nirvana Guards.
Is it worth risking your life? Is it worth sacrificing the entire White Wolf Guard just to save the lives of thirty or forty enemies?
Zakaria himself thought so too.
He didn't want to risk wiping out the entire White Wolf Guard, but he also didn't want to go up and fight it himself.
What kind of chosen champion is this? It's like a god has come along!
He himself is a chosen champion, and he doesn't think he can put on such a magnificent performance!
If he charged up, he could probably take down those fifteen special Space Marines without much trouble, but he probably wouldn't be a match for that burly warrior.
He didn't want to gamble with his life.
He still had boundless ambitions; he was the master of the fleet, and he couldn't die here.
Even with only a one in ten chance of failure, he didn't want to take the risk, let alone the fact that he would likely lose if he rushed in now.
Retreat! Retreat! Even if this mission fails, he can't die here.
Zakaria turned and left without looking back.
……
But Martins wasn't about to let him go!
The moment Zakaria appeared, Mattins realized that he was his target.
He roared and immediately strode after them.
His troops quickly followed his steps.
The White Wolf Guards are still very loyal.
Despite the fact that their leader wanted to run away, and there was suspicion that he was leaving them behind to take the fall, they did not hesitate or waver. Under Zakaria's orders, they did their best to block the advance of the human assault team.
However, their obstruction had little effect.
Martins showed no mercy, using himself as the spearhead, dispatching any enemy in his path with a single strike.
In his eyes, even the Chaos Champion seemed to move in slow motion. He had ample time and reaction time to see clearly what his opponents were about to do, and his powerful analytical abilities allowed him to perfectly predict their next move. His far superior speed, unparalleled strength, and the indestructible relic, the Nirvana Blade, meant he could practically kill anyone with a single strike.
When Mattings had killed the strongest opponents in his path, the Imperial Guards and the Great Nirvana Guards following behind naturally moved unimpeded, tearing the gaps in the enemy's formation even wider and more shredded.
Even if there are some enemies in the distance bombarding us with long-range firepower, it doesn't matter.
They can dodge anything. Even if they can't dodge, the armor that Martins is wearing, which Gu Hang personally helped to create, can completely withstand the attacks of ordinary weapons.
Not to mention Mattins, even the Imperial Guards behind him would not be easily defeated by long-range firepower.
That is, it poses a greater threat to the Great Nirvana Guardians.
But they also have ranged weapons. While slaughtering pigs and chickens, Martins can still raise his hand and use the extermination hand cannon under his left hand, which can kill one enemy with one shot, leaving the enemy with no way to dodge.
The Chaos faction also attempted to use subspace evil magic to deal with them.
However, behind Martins, two 'Unleashed' individuals, along with a squad of spellbreakers, created a warp black hole—anything that landed in this area, whether psionic or evil magic, was extinguished without even causing a ripple.
Even Chaos Wizards targeted by them, including Chaos Warrior Wizards, would suddenly feel their connection to the Warp severed. This caused their mutated bodies and souls to immediately cease to exist once the Warp's evil magic was no longer sustained.
The stronger ones coughed up blood and collapsed, while the weaker ones had their heads explode into pieces.
And so, Martins led his team and quickly caught up to a place not far from Zakaria.
Zakaria looked back and immediately realized that he couldn't leave.
If they continued to run away, they would only be caught up by Martins and killed with a single blow.
He gritted his teeth, turned around, drew his weapon, and decided to fight to the death.
As Mattings drew near, the cunning Chaos Lord adopted a posture of charging into battle.
But before charging, several blessed magical artifacts on his body suddenly activated, unleashing vicious spells at Mattins.
The 'Unleashed Ones' were unable to completely stop the artifacts bestowed by Bassol.
The weakened evil artifact transformed into raging flames, engulfing Mattings and the three Imperial Guards closest to him.
But amidst the flames, the Imperial Guards were burned and severely wounded, collapsing to the ground, unable to move for a moment. However, Mattins, braving the inferno, strode forward and charged towards Zakaria!
The Blade of Nirvana was raised high, and then slashed down with swift force!
