Chapter 941, The Gap is So Big
Chapter 941, The Gap is So Big
Pilsen's question received a response from the Dawnbringers.
"Please trust us, we're all you need to do."
Pilsen found the words of the Dawn Messengers utterly absurd.
What do you mean by "enough"? How did you come to believe it?
Have you ever encountered enemies like these?
We've all faced the enemy head-on, suffered losses, and clashed with them. I told you the enemy is tough to deal with and requires strong support, but you just don't take it seriously.
No, what's going on?!
He almost lost his temper.
However, what happened next caused his views to change drastically.
The arriving messengers of dawn, after merely informing them, swiftly launched an attack on the enemy.
There were no special preparations; it was just a fairly conventional tactical approach. At most, everyone put away their ranged weapons and charged forward mainly using melee weapons and close-combat methods.
Dealing with ordinary enemies is no problem.
Most of the ranged fire from the Dark Eldar forces missed, and even the few that did hit were mitigated by the protective effects of their power armor. Furthermore, most of the fire that did hit was based on assessments that they could withstand the hits without significant harm. The Dawnbringers weren't intentionally taking hits; they simply selectively dodged, choosing to absorb enemy fire that wouldn't be a problem to avoid potentially fatal strikes.
Seeing this, Bilsen didn't find it strange at all.
Although the Dawnbringer seems to charge forward quickly and dodge enemy fire skillfully, so what?
The greatest threat comes from the Nightmare Executioners, and that threat has not yet been resolved.
Bilsen was getting anxious, but what else could he do? Before the Dawnbringers arrived, he had already told them about the Nightmare Executioner's characteristics and threats.
What can be done if the Dawn Messengers don't take it seriously?
He had absolutely no intention of watching the Dawn Messenger suffer a setback and then smugly saying to them, 'Who told you not to listen to me?'
Although he was angry, he was fighting for humanity, and he didn't want to see a large number of people from the neighboring warband die, as that would obviously make the situation worse.
Furious and helpless, he could only order his troops to maintain a tight formation and a defensive posture that made it difficult for others to teleport in and kill them, while taking up weapons such as bomb guns and plasma guns to provide long-range fire support for the Dawn Messengers.
However, this obviously reduced the influence of the Holy Infant Archon's few dozen warriors on the battle to a very small extent. Long-range firepower wasn't entirely useless, but it certainly didn't offer much assistance.
Ultimately, it all comes down to how well the Dawnbringers perform.
When the Second Company of Dawnbringers clashed with the enemy, blades drawn, and the battle erupted, the scene that Bilson least wanted to see happened—the Nightmare Executioners, hidden among the Black-skinned troops, appeared silently, colorlessly, and odorlessly behind the numerous Dawnbringers, like smoke and mist.
The Nightmare Executioner brought down the scimitar he held, a weapon imbued with the artistic style of the Dark Eldar.
However, what happened next left Bilsen speechless. The scene he had expected, and the one that had occurred among his own soldiers—the beheadings—did not happen.
When the attack struck, only two Dawnbringers were caught off guard, or perhaps the attackers were exceptionally skilled, leaving them no chance to retaliate. They fell to the ground headfirst, helmets and all, suffering fatal injuries. The rest, however, reacted swiftly, and many launched a counterattack!
This is completely different from the fate of the Holy Infant Archon!
While some of Bilson and his men did manage to react, and he himself even launched a counterattack, killing the Nightmare Executioner who had ambushed him, half of them barely managed to react and were lucky to survive, some even suffering severe injuries. The other half, nearly twenty of his fellow fighters, were instantly killed.
The proportions of the Dawn Messengers are completely different!
Is this because the Dawn Messenger had made prior preparations and heeded his warning?
Yes, but it's not just that.
Otherwise, Pilsen wouldn't have been so afraid of those nightmare executioners.
Even with prior preparation, those Nightmare Executioners arrived too quickly and too suddenly. They were also extremely powerful warriors, who were in no way inferior to, and in fact stronger than, the veteran Space Marines in direct combat.
Only two of the Dawnbringers were killed!
In fact, during their subsequent counterattacks and counter-kills, they directly caused the deaths of more than twenty Nightmare Executioners!
The remaining survivors didn't even dare to continue fighting the Dawn Messengers. Instead, they hurriedly activated short-distance teleportation and fled.
The Dawnbringers remained calm. They continued according to their plan, slaughtering the other Dark Eldar forces.
Even the Nightmare Executioners were no match for the Dawnbringers, let alone these ordinary Dark Eldar troops.
As the number of Dark Eldar troops was rapidly reduced, the Nightmare Executioners could no longer hide among the crowd.
The short-distance teleportation methods they possess cannot be used continuously; otherwise, their strength would be far greater than it is now.
Short-range teleportation can serve as a means of attack for them, like smoke and mist, but it is difficult to use it as a way for them to escape over long distances.
In the end, fewer than ten Nightmare Executioners managed to escape using various means. The rest were all slaughtered.
After wiping out the fifty-man Nightmare Executioner squad and eliminating all the guards lured out of the target warehouse who were fighting alongside them, the Dawnbringers only paid the price of eleven lives.
The assistance of the Holy Infant Archons cannot be completely ignored. They played a role in the intelligence they gathered in advance, and in the pursuit after the Nightmare Squad's threat was eliminated.
But there are only a few.
Company Commander Bilsen knew that the victory was entirely due to the outstanding strength of the Dawnbringers.
Now he understands. The Dawnbringers' high survival rate, and even their chance of turning the tables, against the Nightmare Executioner's ambush wasn't due to any special methods or tricks, but purely because of their exceptional individual strength!
If it were just that one sudden attack by the Nightmare Executioners, and we couldn't see clearly, or could we deceive ourselves by thinking there might be some special way to deal with it? However, the subsequent waves of confrontation, and seeing how the Dawnbringers were cutting down the Dark Elf race in close combat, made it clear that this was truly a difference in strength.
They're both Space Marines, so why is there such a big difference between them?
Pilsen was filled with deep doubt.
Especially after the battle, when he learned that the Dawnbringer Legion had been established for less than twenty years and that the Battle of Comoros was the first major war they had ever participated in, his self-doubt intensified.
We've fought so many battles over the years... how come we're no match for a bunch of inexperienced new troops?
