FORTUNE
"No way." Mya whistled after he left.
"No way for the fact that Sally brought in another rich and hot customer or the fact that we were visited by the grandson of the richest man in the world, and the son of the second richest man in the world?" Krystal asked in a flat tone.
I would be very excited usually at the prospects of getting close to a man as powerful and influential like Logan Hart, but I can not help but remember the crazy look in his eye as he said the last sentence before he brought me here to explain that he made me late.
"I will make sure I prove that I am right. That you are indeed a thief."
I still shiver whenever I remember it. I have to be careful around that guy, he was going to ruin everything I worked really hard to build for myself, I could not allow that to happen to me. I have to stay away from that guy. No matter how attracted I am to him, I cannot allow myself to get caught. And I have to find a way to get rid of that ring as soon as possible. Those were my thoughts until I knew he was the heir to a billion dollars.
" How come you do not look excited?" Tommy asked as I busied myself with rearranging the clothes on the rack.
"Huh?"
He scratched the back of his neck, his face red from how shy he was at the moment. He was so cute. He would have been perfect if he was the grandson of the richest man on the planet.
"I mean, a literal third generation wealth in person brought you in to work, and even apologized for your tardiness as he was the cause. Knowing you, you would have been walking on cloud nine right now."
I turn to face him sharply.
"Knowing you?" I ask.
He turns even redder.
"That isn't what I meant.."
"What did you mean Tommy?'
He was flaming in that minute.
"I know what you mean, little gold digging Sally isn't strategizing to gold dig a literal gold mine." I say as I start walking away from him.
He starts to mutter apologies in different languages. I don't care about his apology though. When you live with someone like Krystal who is ready to pounce on every of your immoralities, you become immune to these things. In fact I have accepted it. Everyone cannot be moral, I decided to take one for the team. And I can't stay here listening to Tommy. I have to go stew in my self loathing. If I had known that he was the heir to a fortune worth billions of dollars I would never have swiped that ring and then he would never have targeted me. I ruined my one chance of hitting it big.
I collapse against a rack of clothes. Tommy rushes to my side asking if I was okay. Like I would ever be okay again. I ruined it. I used my own slippery fingers to ruin everything that could have been mine. The entire wealth of his father and grand father combined. I would have never worked at a store like this ever again.
"I can walk." I whisper. But only I can hear it since Tommy still puts me on his back and starts to carry me inside the staff room.
"Can you hear me?" I hear him ask but he sounds like he is under water.
"Has she had breakfast?"
"Not that I know of, she isn't coming from home remember?"
"I have water around, does she need water?"
"I'm not sure, her temperature seems fine.."
I tune out the voices as my mind tries to focus and tries to find a way to erase my mistake. I could pretend to find the ring back in the dressing room and claim he lost it there. But I already claimed I didn't know the ring. To make him believe that I didn't steal the ring, he had to find it himself and not on me. But there was no way he was going to find said ring here since he was a regular, today was his second time here. He needed to come here naturally and find it himself or it would look like what it was, a complete set up.
It was impossible. I didn't even know anything about him. If I could know when he would show up here then I could set it up as he found it, and he would never be wiser. And then I would work my magic and maybe somehow by the time I celebrate my next birthday I would be Mrs. Hart. I could feel it in my bones, almost as solid as my own self, this was it, he was it, my ticket out of poverty. I just had to plan it and execute it precisely.
I sit upright, startlingly my co-workers.
"Are you okay?" Tommy's worried expression appeared in my vision.
I smile at him. As brightly as I was feeling.
"I am better than okay."
"Really? Just few minutes ago you were white as a ghost which I thought was impossible for your olive skin." Tommy blushes as he says this. He was so cute I could not help but place a chaste kiss on his cheek.
I jump out of the sofa, I was about to find every information on my conquest as I could. He was an opportunity that I would die before I let slip past me.
"Whoa. Did i miss anything?" Mya asked from the doorway. She looked from me to the shell shocked Tommy that stayed frozen in his spot.
I flash her a sugary smile. If anyone knew celebrity gossip, it was Mya and i think the world's richest man counts as a celebrity.
"Can we grab a cup of coffee after work today? My treat."
She raised a perfect brow in question. We did coffee dates but they were pre-planned.
"Are we celebrating something?"
I see Krystal pretending not to listen to our conversation from my peripheral vision.
"Not really. It's been a while we hung out. Just the two of us."
Mya shot Krystal a questioning look as if asking for permission from her. Krystal made a dismissive noise from the back of her throat, but I knew she was hurt that I didn't invite her. But she will reap the fruits of this meeting in the nearest future. Whether she likes it or not, I'm doing this for the both of us.
