Chapter 21 Ep21

A FEW short hours after reuniting with Falcon, Freya found herself alone once again. He had been fine for the first hour or two, but then he began to get fidgety; constantly glancing at his watch and letting his thoughts drift off.

He had used that wording of ‘tying up loose ends’ again as an excuse before promptly leaving with a chaste kiss and a strained smile. Had she had the time, she may have asked him about his supposed ‘loose ends’, but as it was, she was left clueless and wondering.

A few miles away, Falcon was entering the electric doors to the hospital, hands stuffed in his pant’s suit pockets as he looked around at the flurry of nurses and families. With a deep breath, he approached the front counter, taking one hand out of his pocket to tap the wooden desk slightly in nervousness.

His eyes skimmed the room again before the recetionist’s voice grabbed his attention.

“Can I help you, sir?” the young man smiled warmly at Falcon.

Falcon’s brow furrowed as he thought about his reasons for visiting.

“Ah, yeah,” he cleared his throat. “Do you know which room Vhincent Anders is in? I don’t know if it’s still the same one as a few months ago.”

The man nodded and politely asked Falcon to wait a moment as he checked the hospital records. The man’s smile grew as he looked back up at Falcon.

“Are you family?” he questioned.

Falcon nodded slowly, his hand tapping on the wood again as he pulled on his lower lip with his teeth.

“Yeah,” he responded before swallowing harshly. “I’m his son.”

It felt wrong to call himself the bastard’s son, but it was a necessary evil.

The man nodded and tapped a few more keys on the computer in front of him.

“He’s in room 23, on the second floor,” the man reported back.

Falcon was about to thank him and turn to leave when the man continued.

“If you need any help moving him, don’t hesitate to call a nurse,” he encouraged.

Falcon’s head tipped to the side, his mouth turned down in a frown as he turned his questioning eyes back to the man.

“Move him?” he asked in confusion. “Why would I move him?”

The young man’s smile dimmed slightly as surprise flooded his features.

“Weren’t you informed that he woke up?” the man’s brow creased in question.

“Woke up?” Falcon echoed the words that hung in the air between them. “He’s awake?”

A shiver travelled down Falcon’s spine and he took a deep breath in an effort to shake the fear crawling over him.

“Ah, yes,” the receptionist said slowly with furrowed brows. “As his son, you should have been informed about that.”

Falcon shook his head, his mind distracted as his eyes fell to the floor.

“No,” he mumbled. “No one here has my number. I’ve been away for the last few months.”

The receptionist’s mouth formed a small ‘o’ as he nodded in understanding before smiling once again.

“Well,” he grinned. “I’m sure this is happy news to you then.”

Falcon shook his head absentmindedly as he began to make his way to the elevator doors.

“No,” he muttered softly. “No, it isn’t.”

“Right,” Glenn popped his head around the corner of the kitchen, setting his eyes on the young girl filling a teapot with steaming water. “I’m off to the store.”

Glenn waited for a response as he watched the girl pour herself a cup before methodically stirring a teaspoon of honey into the cup.

“Freya?” he sang softly in order to grab her attention.

He saw her eyebrows lift slightly as she hummed in response.

“I’m going to the store,” Glenn repeated. “You need anything?”

Freya finally looked up at the man, giving him a little smile and shook her head.

“No,” she said sweetly. “I’m okay.”

Glenn’s eyebrows shot up as he let out a breath.

“Alright,” he sighed. “I’ll be back in a bit.”

Freya nodded, turning back to her tea as Glenn gave her one last look before shaking his head and walking out the door.

Freya let her eyes travel outside and settle on the view of the green grass and surrounding trees. The area Glenn lived in was spacious and half the reason why she loved coming there so much. She felt less confined and restricted; she could breathe better there.

She finished stirring her tea before bringing it up to her lips and taking a sip. Still staring outside, she cradled the cup to her chest, curling her small fingers around the warm ceramic. Just as her thoughts began to wander, a knock at the door brought her back down to reality.

Freya looked in the direction of the door, even though she couldn’t see it, and an unsettling feeling weighed down on her chest. She gripped the mug a little tighter, the sound of another knock far too similar to the last time someone had knocked on the door when she was home alone.

Another knock sounded and Freya crept out of the kitchen, careful to avoid the windows that allowed any passer-by to look into the house. Usually she didn’t have any reason to complain about it since there weren’t many people around, and most who were around were too old to go for a lesurely stroll down the road.

Freya slowly walked up to the door, trying to make as little noise as possible as she rose onto her tip toes to peer through the peephole. Just as her eye adjusted to the distorted glass, another knock shook the door, making her feet heavily fall flat against the floor, the tea in her hand splashing out of the cup and burning her hand.

She hissed, shaking out her hand and pressing it to her the material of her yoga pants as her eyes screwed shut of their own accord. She bit her tongue to stop herself from making anymore noises before glancing back at the door.

Making quick work of looking through the peephole this time, she recognised the old scowling face and let out a breath of relief.

She swung the door open and Glenn let out a huff, softly pushing past Freya as he grumbled to himself.

“Forgot my damn keys,” he mumbled, grabbing said keys off the hook near the door before making his way back outside.

He threw her a wave as he climbed into his car and Freya returned the gesture before closing the door with a smile. She made her way into the living room, seating herself on the large couch and continuing to sip her tea.

Her hand still throbbed slightly but Freya figured it wasn’t bad enough to go through the usual procedure of holding it under cold water. Besides, she was quite comfortable where she was.

It wasn’t until there was another knock at the door that she was made to move from her position. Knowing that it was most likely Glenn who had left yet another thing behind, she placed her tea on the coffee table before walking to the door and opening it without hesitation.

Before she could even comprehend the situation, her arm was gripped in an unrelenting hold and she was being dragged down the stairs towards a black vehicle. Gasps escaped her mouth as she stumbled over the loose stones on the path, but she couldn’t seem to form any words.

Only once they reached the car and the man attempted to shove her inside did she find her voice.

“Let me go!” Freya screamed, thrashing any part of her body that she could move. “Let me go! Sto-”

Her shouts were cut short as she was thrown into the back seat, landing on harshly on the floor, the wind getting knocked out of her.

She tried desperately to move but could do nothing but gasp for breath as she heard doors opening and closing around her. Once she could breathe properly, she turned her body to see the people who had taken her.

On impulse, she sat up from the ground and grabbed the arm of the driver, pulling it in desperation to either save herself or kill all of them. Of course, the last thought didn’t hit her until the car swerved to the other side of the road, almost hitting vehicle in the process.

The man straightened their path with a curse and the man beside him tore Freya’s hand from the other man’s arm. Cruel eyes turned towards her and she was shoved backwards before the man in the passenger seat proceeded to crawl over the middle console and seat himself on the back seat.

He dragged her up by the back of her shirt, pinning her onto his lap by holding her arms behind her back and trapping her feet with his legs. She struggled in his hold, throwing her head backwards in an attempt to injure him. The man took the hit but didn’t budge. In fact, he had quite the opposite reaction to what Freya had been going for.

She felt hot breath on the back of her neck before a sharp, wet pain stung her ear lobe. She jerked away from his mouth as he just chuckled at her reaction.

“You’re gonna be a lot of fun,” he bit her neck and Freya jerked back again, shuddering in disgust.

The words only made Freya pull harder at the hands restraining her. There was no way in hell this was happening to her again.

She growled in frustration and the man seemed to finally grow tired of her thrashing.

“That’s it,” he growled, pulling something from the waistband of his pants. “Lights out
