Chapter 146
Meanwhile, Sofia phoned Lily. She was disappointed that she sent her son to do her bidding the last time.
"If it isn't the bravest of the Brentwoods," Lily tried to tease.
"Oh, cut the crap," Sofia was irritated. "A good one you pulled on me sending your son."
"Ow dear, you sound offended. He didn't try anything funny did he? I know my boy, he can be very naive. Ah, children, but what can you do without them?" Lily sang dramatically.
"Enough of this nonsense, Lily. I don't care what you do or don't do with your son. That's none of my business. But the next time he comes to my door, I swear, I won't be as nice as I was."
"Ow great, you were nice?" Lily planted a sarcasm.
Sofia rolled her eyes. She didn't want to get any more upset. Besides, this wasn't why she called.
"I'm guessing you didn't just call to chit chat me about your affection for my son," Lily continued.
"Affection? urgh! look... Lily, I really don't have time for this."
"Neither do I, my dear." Lily called sharply in reply.
A few awkward moment of silence passed between them as Sofia struggled to stay in control until she gave up.
"Okay, so, now that we're on the same page, I need you to do something for me." She breathed.
"Anything for you my lady," Lily refused to drop the sarcasm.
Sofia chose to ignore her. "With the events going on," Sofia proceeded, "I mean, with the whole suicide and the news reports about the Browns. It'll only be appropriate to put the icing on the cake by convincing Mr. Lawson Senior to hinder his grandson from getting married to that gold digger."
"Even better. Getting the old man to invite Ariana over to the family house. There, he'll get to see who she really was," she whispered.
"I'm counting on you to make this happen, Lily. Don't involve Noah into this I beg of you."
"Now there's the problem," Lily interjected, "for this plan to work, Noah's got to be a part of it."
"But why? This is your specialty. He's only going to ruin it with his better-than-everybody attitude."
"I don't disagree with you Miss Brentwood. But you don't seem to get it. I can only go on with this plan if you agree to give the boy a chance."
"What? Are you listening to what you're saying?" Sofia exploded.
"As clear as the sound of music," Lily retorted. "Sofia," Lily pleaded, "by now, you must have discovered that chasing after Ethan is as good as trying to catch a water bubble. You don't need that now. You've lost your sister's respect simply because she's yet to see how responsible you can be."
"Don't drag Alice into this," Sofia rebuffed. She and her sister might have problems but she wouldn't let Lily speak ill of her.
"It won't do you any good denying. You've got to show her you can stand on your own. Get a man in your life. And for now, Noah fits the bill."
Sofia thought about it for a while. Lily might just be right. Lately, she's been getting more and more unsatisfied with her toys. They're not the same as with being with a man. She's missed the feeling. Ever since that dumb Ethan dumped her. But Noah? She's definitely going to have a hard time getting along with his pompous air.
"What if I don't like him?"
"You still don't get it do you. You don't have a choice. It's either Noah or no deal. Remember, I know your little secret."
"Is that a threat?"
"Call it whatever you want Miss Brentwood. This time, your money isn't good enough."
Sofia didn't understand why Lily would be doing this to her. Why was she so keen in getting her son and Sofia together? Something smelled sea-ly. But she's not going to get fooled. She's surely going to get what she wanted. And that was making sure Ariana didn't get to be happy. Ever!
Lily wanted her to be with Noah? So be it. What's the worst that could happen?
"Okay, fine," Sofia consented. "But on my terms."
"As you please my lady," Lily's joy was truly visible in her voice. "And as for Mr. Lawson Senior? Just leave him to me. You just watch and see how everything will play out."
The phone call had ended but Sofia was still contemplating the deal she just had with the devil. It just so happen that she's the only one who didn't know the bunch of inheritance that's entitled to her yet.
Lily has done her research and her findings were true. Sofia is a major shareholder of the company and had many other landed property in her name. Lily also discovered that the family had been hiding these information from Sofia pending when she proved responsible by settling down and having a husband and a family.
Lily saw the opportunity and couldn't resist taking it. Her plan was to get her son and Sofia together and then when the inheritance was finally granted Sofia, by legal means, Lily was sure to have a share for herself. Her useless son would also partake in the advantage, of course.
Sofia had no idea what she was getting herself into. Alice would have given her a better advice not to completely agree with what Lily had said. Lily was as cunny as a chameleon. She could do anything to get what she wanted. She had ruined her husband and sons and she would do the same to Sofia.
A call came in. Sofia picked up.
It was an unknown caller.
"It's Blake. Can't talk on phone. Let's meet up. The next one hour. Same place." The caller hung up.
Sofia dressed up in her usual hoodie and baseball hat and went to the place.
She didn't wait for long before he arrived.
"I don't have much time. They're after me. I don't know who you gave those documents to. Somehow they traced it back to me. You better be careful yourself. Watch your back. That's all I can say for now."
He stood up and started leaving.
"Who are they? What do you mean..."
Blake had already vanished the same way he came. Sofia's heart became destabilized in it's best rate. She stood up as well and stoled out like a pickpocket who's just crossed a victim.
