Chapter 149
Ethan played back the voice message over and over again. Each time, it made him more and more angrier. How did he even let this happen? How did he let this precious gem get snatched away from him?
He had returned home and even took a woman to try and wipe away his sorrow but nothing changed.
He had refused to eat anything. His whole mind was on Aria. He couldn't stand knowing that she's with another man. And now she's getting married to him. The whole thought of it sparked a fire of rage in him.
Ethan decided in his mind, "this marriage will never take place."
If Ariana was going to get married to anybody, then it should be him and no one else.
A naked lady came out of the bathroom and walked over to him. She smiled but Ethan refused to return the gesture. She rubbed his back. Ethan removed her hands quickly and stood up to het dressed.
"You better start leaving now, Sheila," Ethan zipped up his pants.
"Ah!" She gasped and flung one hand in the air, "whatever!" She got dressed and made to go out. She kept mumbling indistinctly.
On reaching the door she turned and said to him, "by the way, your memory is as bad as you are in bed. The name's Tasha, sucker." She bade him farewell by flinging the middle finger before banging the door.
She was the least of his worries now. Ethan had met her at the bar last night. He was depressed and she was drunk. They both shared the rest of the night in his bed. But Ariana had ruined the fun this morning with this shocking revelation. She was getting married, and not with him but with that grandpa's boy, Calhoun!
Ethan had tried calling back but there was no response. He knew Ariana wouldn't pick up but still he tried. Why did she hate him so much? Couldn't she see that he loved her? He's the only one good for her. That Calhoun guy was just trying to play her. He's only going to use her and dump her.
Likewise, Ariana wasn't herself. What had she done? She knew Ethan. How crazy his thoughts could be. He probably hadn't gotten over her yet. He had proven that in the incidence with Ariana's parents. Who knew what ever thing he's planing to do next. Goodness! The guy's crazy enough to want to take away his own life.
She was making some cereal and toast bread for Calhoun when a call came in. Ariana almost ended the call until she discovered that it was in fact Lisa who was calling now and not Ethan.
"Hey babes," Lisa hailed excitedly, "you won't believe what just happened." Ariana wondered why Lisa was sounding so strange.
"Ethan called, he's asking about you. Says he's missing you and wants you back."
"Ow save me the crap Lisa." Ariana replied, "I thought you of all people will know me too well, Ethan and I can not be together again. After all, I've got Calhoun."
"I know," Lisa heaved a sigh, "you know I want what's best for you. Follow your heart."
Ariana paused a while. "Lisa, he proposed and I said yes."
Lisa screamed in excitement. "When? How did it happen? Why didn't you say anything? Give me all the juice..." Lisa was asking a lot of questions all at once.
"We went out to dinner in a beautiful park. Eagle park. You know, I didn't even know he owned the place."
Lisa gasped in surprise. "You mean Calhoun owns Eagle Park?"
"Yeah! He said he bought it a year ago because he likes the place. He's got a lot of memories from when he was a boy right there that's why he got it."
"You're so lucky Aria," Lisa couldn't help saying. "And the dinner? The proposal? Come on girl, I'm dying to hear everything."
"Hold your horses down dear," Ariana chuckled, "so there we were, in the quiet and lonely park. To be honest, I was getting scared. He asked me to close my eyes and just like magic, the park came alive with lights and color. I couldn't believe it. We had dinner and he recited to me a very lovely poem."
"A poem?"
"Yes my dear, a very sweet poem. The words sank deep into my heart and caused ripples of tingling sensations all over my body."
"Ow dear," Lisa exclaimed, "you're in love."
Ariana blushed as she recalled the whole event to Lisa's listening pleasure. No doubt, Lisa was positively jealous.
"Every woman will die to be in your shoes right now," Lisa said.
"I don't know," Aria replied.
"What don't you know?"
"It all seems too good to be true." Ariana sounded off.
"Just take it easy Aria. Don't think too much. Let your heart lead. Our hearts can only lead us to mistakes so we can learn from them. Not so we can regret. The more lessons we have, the more confident we become. So let your heart teach you, and you'll know."
"Thank you Lisa. I really needed to talk to someone."
"Don't you worry girl, I'm always here for you."
"What now do I do with Ethan? He's probably not going to stop trying to come after me."
"I think you should talk to Calhoun about him. He's probably going to fix it. He has his way with these things. See what he did with Alice. The man's a master chess player."
"I really don't want to bother him much, Lisa. He's already having me as a baggage. It amazes me how he's not even cared little about what my parents did. It didn't stop him from loving me. If anything, he loves more now."
"Calhoun's a good man, Aria," Lisa explained. "You've only got to be honest with him. Try to share with him your fears. He's understanding."
This didn't help much. That morning, Ariana kept on pondering about what Ethan would do. He was probably planning on how to ruin her wedding with Calhoun before it even happened.
