Chapter 167
Grandfather was also worried about Lily. This was unlike her. She remained cold through out the meal. She barely ate more than two spoons as she stared at her plate of food.
"Honey, you look pale," Benson pointed out as he also noticed Lily had become a scarecrow ever since they started their breakfast. She went stiffer when Ariana walked into the hall. But Benson could not find a balance point or anything that could relate between Ariana and his wife.
"One will think the snake has seen a ghost," Elsie mumbled under her breath and Rosa snickered.
"Elsie Lawson!" Grandfather roared.
Elsie raised her head from her plate and stared at her father. "What?"
"Do not teach dear little Rosa any of your bad ways!" He hissed and Elsie rolled her eyes. Her father was no fun. The last thing he would say now was to bring up something that would make Elsie really angry, so she focused on her food instead.
"Lily, if you are not feeling well, I suggest you go to your room and rest. You really do look pale," grandfather said tenderly.
Lily didn't even realise that Grandfather had spoken to her. She was somewhere on the streets fighting for a piece of bread... life back then was really hard...
"Lily!" Benson notched her sharply by her side.
"Huh?" She blinked looking into his eyes in confusion. She didn't understand what was happening or what had transpired while she zoned out.
"Father was talking to you!" He hissed harshly. He didn't understand if she was just acting this way to create trouble or she truly meant it. He would have to ask her in private. Whatever had been doing her must have been really strong.
"Lily," grandfather called.
"Yes?" She replied blinking her eyes. She noticed that the entire table had their eyes on her. She would have to go somewhere to cool off her head. She couldn't keep up like this. She had to flush her memories.
"Go to your room and rest," he ordered.
Lily didn't even fight it. She needed the permission, a very long time. She got up from her seat, and started heading to the door.
"Benson, go check up on her," he told his son. "She looks sick."
Benson didn't waste any more time, he wanted to know what his wife was thinking. He left the room at once and walked after her. She had taking the corridor to their room when he caught up with her.
"Honey, whats wrong?" He whispered to her.
She didn't say a word, she simply glared at him and pulled the door open. She wasn't going to tell him about what Ariana had said for that would prompt him to ask about her life and she wasn't about to do that mistake. Rather, she would use her anger to build more turmoil for the girl.
"You look sick, are you alright or is it something you are working at?" Benson asked her again.
"I am not fine. I am stressed out! Can you imagine that nonsense girl that Carloun brought had the audacity to insult me?" She flared. Whenever she lied, she always lived with the notion that it had to be as close to the truth as possible.
"She did what?" Her husband roared. "Why didnt you say anything?" He frowned. He knew his wife. She wasn't the kind of woman to be spoken to without she rebuking them. For her to have kept quiet surely she had something wonderfully painful planned —Benson thought foolishly.
"We will have to increase our game plan. We have to make our traps escape proof in every way. She needs to fall. If we cant make the family see her bad side, then we have to create the bad side for her!" Lily hissed.
Benson clasped his hands excitedly. Lily stared at him and rolled her eyes. He was such a dumb man and she was lucky to have been the first among the hungry girls on the street to have spotted him. It was crazy! Silly man.
She walked to their wardrobe and started taking off her clothes. Ariana had really hurt her with her words and she would never forgive her. Before she was doing it for the money they would gain from Sofia and the joy it would bring her when Calhoun falls from the golden boy seat. Then one of her boys would take over the spot and there would be so much money coming in from every angle for her. She cared less about Ariana at all.
Now, the fight was different. She wanted to hurt Ariana too. It wasn't just about the money now. It was also now about hurting Ariana badly.
Lily felt Benson's hands around her body and she rolled hers. "Can you go take a nap or something?" She hissed slapping his hand away from her.
Benson felt hurt. He turned around so he was now facing her. "Lily, i miss you. When was the last time we had fun?" He asked in a small voice.
Lily glared at him like he was trying to start up a magic incantation he could never finish. Benson was not the kind of man she would have loved to end up with, if she could pick her own fate. But he was the best she could find and the best she could manipulate for so long that till date they didn't know who exactly she was.
"Honey," he whispered as he ran his finger along her jaw line.
Lily felt like tiny little ants had been moving around her face and she slapped his hand away. Today, she wasn't going to pretend he was her soul mate. She was a street person. She came from the gutter. Benson was originally supposed to be a stepping stone but the fool had proposed in front of his parents, she had no choice but to say yes, or risk losing the twelve million dollars she was promised by Mr Lawson Senior if she could change their son.
