Chapter 87
"Grandfather, you didn't have to come here," Calhoun said hugging his grandfather.
"I had to come. You were not returning any of my calls and I needed to speak with you urgently," Grandfather said as they walked into the large apartment at the highest building at the centre of the city. It was one of Calhoun's favourite houses whenever he was in the city. His grandfather knew that he would find him here.
"You really shouldn't. Grandfather, you know i am very busy with this new clothing line I am trying to launch. Please come have a seat," he said as he ushered him to a seat.
"Ah, don't worry about that my boy. I am here now, so we could as well just talk about what I came for," grandfather said as he settled into the seat.
Calhoun was exactly like his son. He was always so serious with his work that he sometimes forgot about family. Not because he didn't love them but because he felt if he should be with his family then he should give them his hundred percent time and not half of it.
Calhoun walked to the bar in the house and took out a bottle of vodka. He took two glasses with it and brought it back to the living room. He was dressed in a simple jogging pants and sweatshirt. His feet were covered with socks as he padded back to his grandfather.
"Ah, my favourite drink," his grandfather exclaimed as he saw the bottle.
"If I can't pick your calls, I should at least take very good care of you..." Calhoun grinned as he poured the drink into the glass.
He passed a glass to his grandfather and took one for himself.
"So, what brings you here?" He asked his grandfather.
His grandfather took his time to taste his drink then brought it down to the table and crossed his legs. "It's about this marriage thing you mentioned the last time you visited my boy. Who is this girl?"
Calhoun dropped his glass as well. A small smile covered his face as he thought about Ariana. The past week they had worked together, he found that she wasn't just beautiful, she was intelligent too. She had this level of shyness whenever they were together that always gave him a hard on. When he looked at her he couldn't control himself. If he could be born again, he would surely pray to meet her early in his life.
"You haven't answered me by Boy... Is she just a product of your imagination or are we going to ever meet her?" Grandfather said.
Calhoun snapped out of his thoughts and looked at his grandfather in his eyes. "I will bring her to you grandfather. Tell grandmother to prepare for next weekend."
"Well, I hope you do bring someone home Calhoun. I am starting to have a feeling there isn't anyone at all," his grandfather protested.
Calhoun picked back his drink and rolled the liquid in it. "Let's see what Sunday brings," he said.
They nursed their drink in silence for a few seconds. His grandfather was worried about angering his friend, he had already promised to convince Calhoun about his friend's daughter but Calhoun was certain he had someone. Maybe he would just have to postpone the talk about his friend's daughter till sunday. Come to think of it, there was no woman in his life. He did practically everything on his own.
"Calhoun, do you still clean your house yourself?" He asked over his drink.
Calhoun looked at his apartment proudly like he was just noticing how impeccably clean it was. "Yeah, I do."
"You make we laugh my boy, you don't have time for yourself but you have time to fix and maintain your house, how do you do that?" His grandfather asked.
"It's quite simple. I just clear up my schedule and do what I need to do."
"Why not employ a maid or something?" He asked he him.
"Why should I get a maid, when I can do it myself? Beside, I don't want any scandal."
His grandfather threw his head back in a fit of laughter. Calhoun was just like his father, they preferred to do things on their own.
"Okay, do whatever suits you!" His grandfather said with his hands raised.
"Whatever. Do you care for some food?" Calhoun asked as he got up. He already had spaghetti started in the kitchen and he just had to put the chicken into the oven so he could get his meal. Now that his grandfather was here, he would just have to add a few more ingredients to make the meal complete.
"Hmm, that won't be necessary. I am already leaving," his grandfather said getting up.
He rose from his seat and Calhoun joined him.
"I thought you were going to spend the entire day?" Calhoun said as the older Lawson pulled him into a hug.
"I would have loved to stay but your aunt Lily has been causing so much trouble lately, someone has to keep her in check befire she pulls the house down." He groaned.
Calhoun frowned at his reply.
"Why do you have to even put up with her in the first place?" He coukdnt understand why his grandparents had Lily and her husband move into their house.
"You have a lot of houses, why can't they just use one of the others?"
Mr. Lawson Senior shook his head and started heading to the door. "You know how that woman can be..." He trailed keeping tales of stories he couldn't bring up anymore.
Calhoun laughed and took him out of the door where he watched till his grandfather had disappeared into the car and ventured out of the apartment building.
He turned back to enter and remembered that he still had to worry about convincing Ariana to go with him to see his family. This was not going to be an easy task seeing how she behaved around him. But he had to try.
