Chapter 89
Calhoun threw his phone across the bed and walked to the television mounted on the right side of his bed.
"What could possibly be wrong now?" He muttered to himself as he fetched the remote control from the side table beneath the television.
The screen came to life and he scrolled through the channels. Zion didn't even say where exactly he should tune into but if it was as bad as hr was saying it then it had to be on business news. He was scrolling fast to get to the right channel when his eyes lingered on the entertainment channel. It was Alice.
"Silly woman," he hissed. He couldn't understand why the entire city worshipped her. To think that she even had the guts to ask him not to employ Ariana. "Crazy woman!" He muttered.
But as he was about to change the channel, his eyes caught something on the message scrolling through the screen right under Alice Brentwood's bold name.
It was his name. Calhoun Lawson.
"What?" He asked as he zoomed on the screen to see what was written.
"Alice Brentwood set to marry Calhoun Lawson, date yet to be disclosed. What the fuck?" Calhoun growled.
Was Alice completely crazy?
How could she go on national television and say such crazy things?
This wasn't the first time women where going on television and declaring themselves to be in a relationship with him. He cared less about such things.
But this time he had to care because Ariana could watch such nonsense and think it was true.
Calhoun put up the volume of the television screen and he was shocked at what Alice was saying.
"We have seen so many women come out in the past to state that they were in a relationship with Mr. Lawson, how are we sure yours isn't like that as well?" The presenter was asking.
Alice swayed her hair to the side and smiled. "You all know me. I am Alice Brentwood, have I ever said anything in the past that wasn't true?" She asked the presenter.
Calhoun narrowed his eyes at the screen. She was speaking with so much confidence like she knew exactly what she was doing. This was madness.
"That is true, Alice. But Calhoun isn't here, how can we believe you?" She asked her and Calhoun waited for her reply. Surely she couldn't have seen that one coming.
Alice turned to the camera like she was staring right into him. "Next time I come on the show, I will be with Calhoun."
Calhoun felt like a large hammer had been rammed into his head. Now he was sure beyond doubt that Alice had gone crazy. He put off the television and walked back to the bed, where he had dumped his phone. He needed to talk to Ariana.
He dialed her number and placed the call on speaker. He had to hear her opinion about it. His Saturday could not get ruined with this stupid act by Alice.
"Hello," Ariana's voice came up on the phone. She sounded weak and tired. It was late but not late enough for him to think she sounded like this because she was sleepy. No, something else was wrong.
"Ariana, where are you?" He asked obsessively. He wasn't one of those lovers who let go because of a stupid set up. He would make her understand that Alice was just trying to create problems for them.
"It's a Saturday sir." There was fire in her voice and Calhoun felt like a whiplash had been released to his heart.
"Ariana, please don't do this. Whatever Alice is doing has nothing to do with me. She is crazy." He tried to explain hoping that Ariana was going to believe him.
"Sir, I am not concerned with that. It's your personal life."
Shit!
For her to be replying him like this, then she was definitely mad at him. Calhoun hung up the call without relying her. This required him being there with her face to face.
He put on a simple T-shirt and moved out of his house as fast as he could. If anything happened to the relationship he was trying to create with Ariana, he would never forgive Alice for this. In fact her entire company would suffer. He drove at a speed that broke all traffic rules but at that instance he didn't give a damn. He wanted to be with Ariana and that was exactly what he was going to do.
Calhoun got to Ariana's house in less than thirty minutes after his call. He rang the bell five times in a roll and waited for the door to be answered.
He heard sounds of the door being unlocked and he took a step back expecting to see Ariana but he was met with a different person.
"Hello?" He said with raised brow like she was the one standing on the outside.
"Mr. Lawson I am sorry but she doesn't want to speak to you..."
Calhoun gave her a cold stare from her head to her toe. He had never seen this woman.
"You are?" He asked.
"I am Lisa. Please, can you leave now. She is in no mood to talk. Maybe she will come to the office on Monday."
Calhoun narrowed his eyes at her. Did this Lisa girl think he just risked his life driving here to be told he could see Ariana on Monday?
"Please, step out of the way." He growled and Lisa stopped talking. She wanted to be mad at him but there was no way she could be angry at someone as handsome as Calhoun Lawson. But she couldn't let him in. Aria was hurt and it was all because of him. She requested for Lisa to stay by the door for she knew Calhoun might want to come for her.
But befire she can say anything, Calhoun pushed her out of the way and walked into the house.
"Ariana!" Calhoun called out as he got to the living room. She wasn't there. He started for the bedroom.
"Mr. Calhoun please listen to me..." Lisa said running after him. "Aria won't talk to you. She is pretty hurt."
Calhoun stopped for a second and turned to glare at her. "I had nothing to do with that interview. She will talk to me."
