In 1900, a beautifully printed volume of the Diamond Sutra was discovered in the Mogao Grottoes of Dunhuang. The end of the volume was inscribed with the words "April 15, the ninth year of Xiantong."

Tang Xiantong ninth year, that is, 868 years.

This "Diamond Sutra" scroll, which is made up of seven printed sheets and is about one foot six feet long, has a dignified style of graphics and text, clear printing ink, and skillful engraving skills. It is the earliest known in the world with a clear publication date. of prints.
