Chapter 47
Clara's POV
Her mom laughed. "Didn't I warn you, you stupid girl? In this life, you only have yourself. Of course, the dumb girl saw an opportunity and took it. That's why you should leave most of the thinking to me. You are just as stupid as your father." She said coldly. "I'll personally think of a way to get that little problem out of the way permanently. But we must keep our eyes on the price, and we can't waste this opportunity." She continued.
At this rate, I didn't know whether to be more afraid of Madison or her mother. They were both psychopathic.
"What do you suggest, mother?" Madison asked.
"If things are that bad and he isn't paying attention to you, I have a solution that will make sure that he does exactly as you say and that he will never leave your side." Her mother paused dramatically. "Just have his baby." She said,
Like Madison, it took us both a while to comprehend her words. There was no way I had heard it wrong.
Madison laughed theatrically. "Have his child? I just told you, mother, I can't even get him to talk with me. How will I ever get him to sleep with me?" Madison retorted.
"Madison, you are not a child anymore. I think you can see where I'm getting to." Her mother answered.
Madison didn't answer. She was just as confused as I was.
"Do you think I didn't have any competition along the way? Your father was one of the biggest oil giants at the time. Although he traded it in for a construction company, he still had a lot of influence. You didn't think it was easy to snag a man like him, did you?" She paused dramatically. "At the time, he had this little distraction whom he was constantly running after. He told me he was going to leave me. So, one night, I called him over for a truce. I told him he couldn't refuse. Let's say I drugged him and lied to him that I was pregnant a few weeks later." She continued.
"No way, Mother," Madison laughed, a hint of admiration in her voice.
"It worked. I managed to trap him, and I gave him an ultimatum to forget all about that little hussy. I told him I'd kill myself and the baby if he refused. Being the kind-hearted fool that he is, he agreed. I managed to get pregnant finally, so I no longer had any use for him. I already had my insurance in his bank account." She continued. She spoke so calmly, with no hint of remorse in her voice.
"Are you suggesting I do the same thing, mother?" Madison smiled.
"It works. Everyone knows a child is a door to any man's fortune." She answered. "All you have to do is invite him to dinner and put a dash of something in his drink. It will be enough to take him out till tomorrow, and he won't remember anything. All you'll have to do is wake up next to him tomorrow. Everything will fall into place from there." She explained.
"Okay," Madison nodded. "We'll have to move quickly." She agreed.
"You should do it today. You are already losing hold of him. Grow a backbone for once and act quickly. We don't want that lousy mother of his snooping even further." She answered.
Madison left her seat with her phone. My heart raced at the thought of her catching me here.
If she was capable of all this, what else could she do to me?
But she stopped as she moved her fingers frantically on her phone. She waited anxiously, biting her nails.
Minutes later, her face brightened up as she read a text. "He just agreed to come." Madison laughed. "Anyone would swear that he was an idiot. Good thing he is attractive." she continued laughing.
Her mother also joined in on the laughter.
I couldn't believe I was watching all this madness unfold.
Why did Derek have to be so trusting? If only he were a little more paranoid, none of this would be happening. I wouldn't be able to fool him either.
"That's good, and you have to make sure you look perfect for tonight. I'll go and get what you need from an old friend of mine. While you go to the spa or something." Her mother said.
Madison agreed.
Both of them left the couch and left the suite.
I still couldn't believe I had just watched all of that happen.
I finally breathed as I walked out of my hiding spot.
I had to do something warm for him, even if I had to tell him everything.
I didn't want him to make the same mistakes again that he did with me. Except that this time, things were getting far more dangerous. Madison wasn't just looking to keep her job, and she wanted his fortune.
Minutes later, once I was sure that Madison wouldn't be coming back, I got out of the suite and made my way to Derek's penthouse.
I knocked on his door and panicked, but to my surprise, no one answered. I didn't have access to his penthouse anymore.
Why wasn't he answering? He was just here a few hours ago.
I turned to my phone for a solution. I frantically searched for his number and called.
Luckily, he didn't take too long to respond.
"Hi," he answered casually.
"Derek, where are you?" I asked in a panic.
"I'm out of the building. I went to my main office. Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yes," I answered. "There is something important I need to talk to you about."
"I'm in a meeting right now. How about we talk tomorrow?" He cut me off.
Tomorrow would be too late.
"I..."
He ended the call just like that.
Of all the days he had to do this.
How was I going to stop this? There was only one solution.
