I scurried up the stairs and to the front door, opening it so Delilah and her parents could come in. They followed me down the stairs, telling me how the accident was all over the news.
I started to worry about Angelo deciding to come here. As they did their doctor thing, I thought over everything.
It would make sense for Angelo to want revenge for Stefano killing his father. But Hank could be lying as well, I wouldn't be surprised. It seems like everyone is lying to me now a days.
I walked back upstairs and sat down, thinking over what Hank told me. I remember reading about my brother's accident, they did say the driver was arrested. However, I don't remember what his name was.
I sighed as I leaned against the back of the chair. I'm most likely going to need to question whoever this driver was and do even more research.
"You alright?"
I looked up to see Hank walking into the room, a concerned expression on his face.
I sighed, "How do I know you're not lying to me? About everything?"
He smiled, "You're already planning to look into it, aren't you?"
"Yeah, I want to make sure I'm blaming the right guy."
"Go for it, if it helps you." He yawned.
"How is he?" I asked quietly.
Hank ran his hand through his hair, "They sedated him, but your friend said he doesn't look good."
I looked at the ground, frowning. If Stefano dies from this, then either a guilty man is killed or an innocent man is killed. Either way, he's not completely innocent, he did kill Angelo's father. For reasons unknown to even Angelo himself.
I got up and decided to call Jade, I don't know how, but she seems to always be able to get files on anyone.
"Hello?" She answered.
I swallowed, "I need you to do me a huge favor."
"Yes?"
"I need you to find out that driver's name, the one who crashed into my brother. And once you do, pull up all files on him. Including phone records from before the accident. Oh, and give me Angelo's number. And if he ever changed his number, give me that number too."
"Okay...Vi, is everything alright? You sound stressed."
I released a breath, "I'm okay, just...I don't know."
"Your dad is worried sick about you, he called you several times and then asked me if I knew where you were." She explained.
"I know, I'll call him later."
"Okay, I'll get those files for you."
"Thank you. And don't tell anyone about this. Especially my father."
After she hung up I dialed my father's number, forming a lie as to where I was.
"What?" He snapped as he answered.
Damn. Someone is in a bad mood.
"Dad?"
"VIENNA, WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?"
"Stop yelling, I'm out with a friend. My phone died and I forgot to call. I'm sorry."
"You're an idiot, you know that?" He sighed.
"Get home now, your mother is worried sick and so am I. Plus, I need to explain the side business to you."
I bit my lip, "No, dad. Tell mom I'm fine, I'll see her tomorrow. And just tell me about the side business now, why do I have to be there?"
"It's too dangerous to explain everything on the phone, Vi."
"Fine. Then come to my office tomorrow and explain it to me then."
He released a frusterated breath, "Fine. You better call us when you get home."
"I will, love you dad."
"Love you too princess."
I sighed in relief as I fell into a chair, glad that's over with. I looked at the ceiling as I thought over everything.
I'm helping a guy who could of killed my brother, I'm sneaking around and lying to my parents, I'm running a company, and now my dad has some side business that I'm going to take over. What else could possibly happen?
"Vi."
I groaned, swatting away whoever was poking my cheek.
"Viennaaaaaa."
"Fuck off." I grumbled as I rolled over.
A man sighed, "Vienna, Stefano is awake and he's looking for you. I really don't want that idiot getting out of bed when he's too injured."
I snapped my eyes open to see Delilah staring at me with a raised eyebrow. I quickly climbed to my feet, fixing myself up, I walked to the infirmary.
When I saw Stefano I almost winced, he was extremely pale, he had a large bruise on his left cheek, and stitches on his jaw from a deep cut. A heart monitor was hooked up to him, an IV was in his arm, and the blanket was covering the rest of his body.
"How are you feeling?" I asked, sitting in the chair beside his bed.
He didn't answer, he just stared at me. I watched as he relaxed and closed his eyes, falling asleep.
"He wouldn't sleep without you in here." Delilah whispered.
I sighed, "Thank you, I owe you."
She smiled, "You don't owe me anything. Oh, my parents told me to tell you that Angelo De Rege is searching for his body."
I stiffened, "Okay."
After she left I quietly got up and started searching for Hank. I sighed in relief when I found him in, what I'm assuming is the kitchen.
"We have a problem." I announced.
He looked up, "What?"
"Angelo is searching for Stefano's body."
"I figured he would. If he comes here, I can handle him." He said, getting up.
"How is he?"
"He's sleeping." I answered.
Hank nodded, "Good. He needs his rest. I'm going to make sure the security is up and running in case Angelo does come. I don't need that asshole starting any more shit."
I sighed and grabbed my phone, when I saw Jade had texted me, I quickly opened it.
"The driver that was arrested, was Lorenzo Amari, 48 yrs old, was said to be a close friend of Angelo's. Apparently they were business partners for a while. Before the crash, Lorenzo called Angelo about twenty times and I sent you their texts. It was hard finding the texts, Angelo had completely deleted that other number and its files. But because of your dad's side business, we had them."
"Thank you." I texted back before pulling up the pictures of their texts.
"Are you sure this will work? He's a smart guy. What if he finds out?" -L
"He won't, trust me. He deserves this."- A
"I don't want to go down for man slaughter." -L
"I'll bail you out or help you escape, now go with the plan. He took my father from me. Kill him."- A
I sighed, their texts don't tell me much. I bit my lip, clearly they're talking about the crash and Stefano. I shook my head, if they wanted this to stay a complete secret, then they wouldn't have texted at all.
I quickly put my phone away and grabbed my purse. Looks like Hank was telling the truth, now, I just need to see what my father has to say about this side business.
When I reached my office I froze, standing beside my desk was my father and Angelo. I swallowed the fear, knowing I needed to act normal. I put on a smile as I walked in, the sound of the door closing caught their attention.
"Good morning." I greeted.
My father narrowed his eyes, "You didn't call us when you got home."
I paled, "I'm sorry! I was tired and maybe slightly drunk."
Angelo smirked, "My kind of girl."
I flashed him a glare before looking at my father.
"So, explain this whole side business." I said, sitting down.
My father nodded, "This side business is...complicated and completely illegal."
"Well, be blunt why don't you?" Angelo asked sarcastically.
My father rolled his eyes, "I'm a mafia boss, Vienna."
I nodded, I couldn't even be surprised as I finally connected all the dots. For the past four years I've been suspecting my father had something to do with the mafia.
After my brother mentioned something about him involved with the mafia, it wasn't hard to figure it out. However, I'm still the naive girl and had that doubt in my mind.
I am a bit shocked that he's a mafia boss though.
"So....I have to take over?" I asked.
My father sighed, "It's up to you, if not, Angelo will take over it. But in order to do that, you two would have to marry."
I gaped at him, "No way in hell am I marrying him!"
"So...you're taking over the mafia group?" My father asked.
"No! I don't want to deal with the mafia, dad." I growled.
"Angelo will only take over if you agree to marry him. I can't continue to put your mother in danger." My father argued.
You have got to be kidding me.
"Oh, so it's completely okay to put your daughter in danger or force her to marry some self centered business ass? Just to save your wife's ass? I love mom, if anything happened to her, it would kill me inside. But...I'm your daughter! I'm your only child left! Just tell your men to join Angelo's group or whatever!"
My father pinched the bridge of his nose, "It's not that easy."
I threw my hands up and groaned, "This is confusing. I thought there was one mafia. That's it."
"There is, the Italian mafia. However, there are families within that mafia. And those families each have their own men and group. I'm a mafia boss and I have my own men while your father has his." Angelo explained.
I glared at them, "I'm not taking over the mafia group, I'm not marrying him, and I'm moving on with life. Find someone else to take over. A second in command or something."
"I don't trust Diego to run the mafia." My father frowned.
I raised an eyebrow, "Guess who doesn't care."
Angelo sighed, "You either take over the mafia and have me help you or we get married. You can't be alone."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "I'm not. I have my family."
"Actually, your mother and I are leaving and moving to Hawaii." My father whispered.
I stared at him in shock, they're just going to leave me? I blinked away my tears and ignored the pain in my heart.
"So, you're going to leave me here to deal with all of this?" I asked, my voice dangerously calm.
My father released a breath and went to hug me, but I shoved him away from me.
"Don't touch me." I spat.
He stared at me with hurt, but I could careless. He's betraying me, his own daughter. His own flesh and blood.
"I'm not taking over nor am I marrying Angelo. I'm leaving." I snarled, grabbing my purse.
"You can't be out there alone." Angelo growled.
I glared at him, "And why is that?"
"There's a rogue mafia group, their boss is an issue for us. He hates your father and I, he'll easily capture you.' Angelo replied.
I raised an eyebrow, "And who is this rogue boss?"
"We don't know, we just call him Rogue. Though, I have a feeling it's my little brother." Angelo sneered.
I smirked, "Well, that sounds like a personal problem to me. If he thinks kidnapping me will hurt my parents, then someone needs to inform him of this one flaw. My parents could careless about me."
My father shook his head, "It would hurt-
"Don't you fucking lie to me! That is all you've been doing! Clearly, it wouldn't bother you if you two could just up and leave while knowing your daughter could be killed any day! You're a coward, Dario."
His eyes shined with anger, "Don't you dare disrespect me, Vienna."
I laughed, "I'll do whatever the hell I want, Dario."
I froze as the sound of a slap echoed throughout my office. It took me a few seconds to register the stinging pain on my face. I blinked and looked at my fuming father.
It was deadly silent, you could hear a pin drop. I swallowed and nodded as I looked at them.
"I'll take over the mafia." I growled.
"But Dario, you and mom better make sure I can't find you."
