Chapter 10
AVERY'S POV
"What the hell is going on, Avery?" I heard Xander ask, his eyes wide in wonder. He was whirling really wild in the air.
The shocking thing was that there was no breeze or wind in the bedroom. Everything stayed the same.
"I don't know what's going on here. Oh no…" I panicked, realizing I couldn't get Xander down, with my supposed powers.
"Why would the Moon Goddess give me something I can't control?" I cried while running from one end to another end of the bedroom.
Ahh…" In a bid to get Xander down, I stumbled on the huge flower bouquet Shannon had gifted me a week ago. I fell flat on my face with a loud thud. The bouquet toppled to the ground.
The vase with which it was kept shattered to pieces, giving me a few cuts. I winced knowing I would have to deal with a bleeding spree if those cuts started to bleed.
"Be careful, Avery." Xander called out, his hands stretched out involuntarily. He looked like he wanted to have me in his arms in order to shield me from harm.
I stood up on wobbly feet, holding my head. I felt really dizzy from the fall.
"I'm okay, Xander." I said in order to reassure him. However, my eyes were glued to the scattered flower petals. There was a black pen in the midst of the petals.
"Hey, I feel really dizzy up here. I feel like I'm going to pass out." I heard Xander say and I turned to look at him sharply.
A thought suddenly rose to my mind immediately I turned to look at him. He had been holding onto his shoes. I guess he's a shoe freak.
"Let your shoes go, Xander." I said to him, with my fingers tapping on my chin. Immediately he did so, he slumped heavily to the ground. A loud thud reverberated through the room.
"Xander, are you okay?" I asked, rushing toward him. Surprisingly, his shoes flew toward me like they have a mind of their own.
"Ahh…" He let out an incoherent sound before passing out.
"Woah…" I said, in disbelief. While taking and throwing the shoes at a corner of the room. I glanced back at the black pen and decided to check it later when I'm done with Xander.
Thankfully, he was still breathing. The last thing I wanted was to get someone killed due to my lack of knowledge on my newfound powers.
But then why would a pen be in a bouquet or the vase?
I looked at Xander's body on the floor and winced. I had no strength in this feeble body of mine, how would I carry him to the bed?
However, I made up my mind to not let him just stay on the floor.
I crouched down and lifted his body and I got the shock of my life. I was able to lift his body effortlessly!
"What the f**k!" I cursed as I dropped Xander's body back to the ground.
"Am I becoming a monster?" I asked myself. Everything that had been happening was so surreal to me. And now I had an unimaginable strength.
I looked down at my hands and feet, they still looked slender and straight.
I crouched down again and lifted Xander's body. I was able to carry him to the bed at record speed which still came as a shock to me.
Realization dawned on me that, asides from being the descendant of the Moon Goddess' friend, I also had new abilities bestowed on me.
"This is crazy!" I let out a squeal.
"What's crazy?" I heard Xander's voice and my head snapped to look at him. He look disoriented and I could understand why.
"I'm sorry." I said immediately, feeling remorseful about what had happened.
Xander had a confused look on his face. He was confused about why I apologized to him but then realization dawned on him.
"You shouldn't apologize about that, Avery. I feel you are one badass lady. How were you able to do that? Is that some perk of being the daughter of an Alpha?" Xander asked, curious to know about what just happened.
"Uhmm…" I began, not knowing how to explain everything to him. I also didn't want him to get scared if I told him about my past life. He would be curious about how we were and I wasn't ready to lie to him about that.
It was already a surprise that he wasn't scared that I could harm him.
"Uhmm, the Moon Goddess appeared in my dream." I started to cook up a story and he was visibly interested.
"She told me something about being the descendant of her friend. When I woke up, I found out that I could control little things and the weather. Now, it's obvious that I can control people as well." I explained and held my breath, waiting to hear Xander's opinion.
After a minute, he didn't say anything and I was starting to get worried.
"Are you scared?" I asked impatiently. "If you need space between us to think about it…" I didn't get to finish my words before he interrupted me.
"What! No, I'm not. Also, I need no f**cking space. I have just some really crazy ideas in my head." Xander said to me, with a wicked smirk on his face.
"Really, what are you thinking?" I asked, anticipation evident in my eyes.
"You should use these new found abilities to your advantage. What do you plan to do about Erik and Shannon?" Xander asked with a wicked smile on his face.
For a moment, I didn't understand what he was saying but realization dawned on me.
"Wait a minute, I have something to show you." I said to him and he nodded.
I stood up and walked back to the scattered flower petals. I was careful not to step on the broken pieces of the vase because I couldn't handle a bleeding spree at the moment.
I wasn't sure if I still had the same illness I had in my past life.
As I bent down to take the black pen, I noticed the few cuts on my body had healed.
"Woah…" I let out in surprise, seeing that my legs were stained with blood that had clotted.
My heart leaped in joy and I wanted to share my finding with Xander but then I realized he isn't supposed to know about my past life.
It was really hard stopping myself from telling him everything about me. I felt like I was lying to him. Is this effect of the mate pull?
"Look at this…" I said, walking back to where Xander was seated. "It's a weird pen, don't you think?" I asked, already having doubts about what it might be.
Xander took the pen from me and with a few flicks, he said, "It's a recording pen but it's spoilt. How did you get this?"
"Uhmm, I think it was placed in that broken vase. Shannon gave me the bouquet along with the vase a week ago. Do you think something is fishy here?" I asked finally.
"Hmm, the pen is spoilt. Why would she place a spoilt pen in a vase if she actually wanted to spy on you? It doesn't make any sense." Xander reasoned and I could think in alignment with him.
"Do you think she's up to something?" I asked.
"Of course, Shannon is always up to something. You just never noticed." Xander said, rolling his eyes.
"Can you get the pen working? We need to know what the content is." I was eager to get the pen working. Eager to investigate what Shannon was hiding.
"Of course, I can. Before that, what do you want to do about Erik? You just can't keep giving him the cold shoulder. He is going to be suspicious." Xander said to me and I was quick to notice a fleeting look of jealousy in his eyes.
"I'm going to investigate whatever they are hiding, starting with the pen. It's going to be really spooky if we get to know she has got all my conversations in that pen. And then she's just waiting for the right time to get it out." I shivered while saying those words.
"Nice thinking there. Now, I want you to see if you can get those petals into the dustbin. You should get to manage your abilities from now on." Xander's words excited me.
I stood up eagerly and walked toward the flower petal scattered all over the ground. In order to do something, I could only think of it.
Immediately I thought of transferring the petals to the dustbin, the petals moved. Moving up in mid air toward the dustbin at the end of the wall.
But then I heard someone scream my name, "Avery…"
Immediately after, I lost concentration, the flower petals scattered throughout the bedroom.
"What the f**k!" I let out a curse.
