Chapter 25

Xander's POV.

When those rogue wolves blocked our path, I knew for sure that we were in trouble.

When we were told to shift back to humans, I was enraged but Avery surprised me when we were properly covered up. My mate is a mystery to me, she's exhibiting powers I never knew she had.

Even back in their school days, no one ever knew she had powers, it seems that she'd kept them a secret.

My wolf was struggling to come out when those rogue wolves teased my mate but she kept telling me to calm down. I was on the verge of losing control when she did something that got me rolling with laughter.

The rogue wolves seem to have gone on a slapping spree, and it was the funniest scene ever.

I got enraged when another wolf poked a knife at her back, threatening her to free those jerks. I'll have to fight him off but I'm afraid Avery might get hurt.

She did something that got me relieved and afraid at the same time.

The wolf in question started slashing his skin with the knife on her command and it got worse when she wanted to kill him.

I rushed to her and calmed her down.

As we shifted and headed home, I had fear in me. I prayed hard to the moon goddess to grant her control over her powers.

She races ahead of me, her wolf pretty fast compared to mine but with difficulty, I caught up with her.

We're now out of the woods and I jumped to her front.

'Stop, Avery.'Came the sharp command and she draws to a halt.

‘Please Xander, I can't do this right now. I want to be alone, please.’ she said, her voice choked with pain.

Her pain-filled voice tore at my heart and I wish I could do something that would aviate the pains she was experiencing.

‘I understand Avery....... ’

‘No! No, you don't understand..... I.. I... I nearly killed that rogue wolf, how could I think of such, we're not at war with them. My powers seem to be getting into my head. It's like they are controlling me.’

She interrupted me, and her wolf whined in pain, my mate is in pain and I can't even do anything about it.

‘It's alright Avery, everything will be fine. This is the first time you're probably having an encounter with your powers, plus the fact that you're in pain of losing your parents. Don't be so hard on yourself, love.’

I comforted her, using my nose to nuzzle her fur.

She came closer in an embrace and rested her head on my shoulder.

‘Thanks for making me feel better, I have to go now. I want to be alone.’ She said, in a cracking voice.

She left me and I watched her run into the pack.

Of course, I'm not going to leave her alone, not this time, and not ever.

I'm sure she's going to sneak in, just the way she'd sneaked out.

‘sneaky mate! I love the sound of that.’ Declan growled.

‘ It would only be cool if she sneaks to see us. Other wolves sneak to meet their lovers and embrace them, ours sneaks into the woods to embrace danger. How ironic is that?’ I muttered with a chuckle.

Very ironic but our mate is no ordinary mate. She's bold, fierce, beautiful.....she's everything dude.’ Declan declared and I know it's true.

Avery is no ordinary wolf, she's a Luna, not just any Luna, she's a mystical Luna.

I heard a cracking noise and muttered.‘ That's our clue.’

I knew she was already in her room.

I sneaked up and entered through the window noiselessly.

I must admit, climbing up wasn't as easy as climbing down.

She emerged from the bathroom, a towel tied around her chest and her hair wet.

My eyes twinkle and she looked down at me with a frown.

"Which part of 'I want to be alone' do you not understand?" She asked, coming closer to me.

‘ Everything about it.’ I growled in slow response.

"You need to leave, Xander. I need to rest." She said, but her eyes said a different thing when she bent low and started nuzzling my fur.

And darn it! I don't like it, I love it!

I could live like this forever.

I shifted back.

"How about you tell me what you want now," I said, boring my eyes into hers.

"You know what I want now, Xander?" She asked.

"No, tell me, beautiful Avery," I said slowly.

"I.. I.....I want a lot of things with you." She said and moaned lightly.

"Tell me already, I'm willing to do anything," I said eagerly.

"What I want right now...is uhmmmmmmm," She said, tracing those beautiful fingers from my face to my chest.

"Go on Avery, just say it." My wolf was dancing in anticipation.

"I want you to... hmmm... I want you to go take a bath! You're all sweaty." She said and pushed me off lightly with a chuckle.

‘ouch! I was expecting more than that.’ Declan winced and I gave a throaty chuckle.

"A kiss won't do you harm, Luna Avery. I'll go but only if you'll give me a good night kiss." I said, folding my hands against my chest.

"You should be ashamed of yourself, naked man." She said and leaned closer to me, grabbed me, and kissed me on the forehead.

"There's nothing to be ashamed of, feel free to have your eyes and memories filled," I said and she punched me playfully on the chest.

"Xander?" She called me softly.

"Hmm..yes dear."

"Thank you. Thank you so much." She muttered and engulfed me in a hug.

"Smiles..... Anything for you love, no need to thank me anyway. I'm doing my duty, and please don't try to push me away from you. I know you're enough for yourself but my brave Avery, you can't be a loner always, I'll be here for you whenever you need me. All you have to do is just call and I'll be at your service my Luna." I said gently, kissing her cheeks on both sides.

"I'm sorry for acting all brave...I just think no one will understand my pain but I was wrong...few people understand." She said,deepening the hug.

I wanted to understand who those other few people are but I don't wish to disturb her, she already had a very hectic bad day.

"So, should I go now or do you want me to spend the night?" I asked jokingly.

"Your call, mate...." She said with that sexy smirk that turned my cold inside into fire.

"You sure, I don't think I'll allow you a good night's rest if I'm by your side all night long."

"Your devilish smirk says it all, now get out of my room! " She ordered giving a throaty laugh.

"As you wish my Luna," I said, giving a slight bow and turning to leave.

"Hay." She called.

I smiled and turned. "Yes, my brave Luna."

"You look cute without clothes." She commented, her eyes railing me.

"I'm glad you think so. Now stop looking at me like that, or I might do something stupid tonight."

"I'd like to see you try..." She said moving back.

"Not now Luna Avery, not just yet. I'll pay you for eye-raping me tonight." I said and turned to go.

"Hay!" She called out again.

"Please don't stop calling me unless you want to be pinned under me," I growled, turning to look at her smiling face.

"I love the sound of that, but only in the opposite. I want you pinned under me and not the other way round. Now hurry along before I change my mind." She said and hurried to her changing room.

I smiled as I shifted.

"Good night, Xander." She muttered, but I heard her.

"Good night my Luna," I said and leaped out of her window.

Avery's POV.

I came out of the changing room, wearing my simple night dress.

As I lay on the bed, I couldn't stop thinking about Xander, his scent still lingering in my room and I love it.

He'd been so patient with me, calming me when I was on the verge of killing that silly rogue.

I knew I had used my claws to injure him, but they had healed when he shifted a few minutes ago.

The moon goddess had given me such a great man as my mate, gave me powers beyond my imagination, and a second life to live and right all the wrongs.

A frown quickly appeared on my face when the thought of my limited time came to my mind.

"All these won't last forever. I can't be with him forever." I muttered and began to cry again.

‘Avery?’ Xander called, connecting to my mind.
