Chapter 3
Avery’s POV
“You have to be quick!” I heard Shannon say from the door but I didn’t turn around to acknowledge her presence in the room, nor did I say anything to her.
Her cheap perfume wafted through the air like some sort of airborne disease and I scrunched up my nose, wondering why she always bought the cheap ones even after father always provided money for the better ones.
I sat in front of my vanity mirror with a small smile on my face as I brushed through my thick black hair without saying a word. I was conflicted and at the same time super excited to be reliving moments I’ve lived before.
I wasn’t sure about this, about having to travel back in time and reliving moments I’ve lived before but at this point, I wanted to try. I wanted to rub most of Erik’s shit in his face as well as suck out his life force the same way he had done to mine in my past life.
“Avery… you’re taking too long!” Shannon cried from beside me and I quickly glared one last time at my reflection in the mirror, stood up and followed her in order to avoid her forthcoming incessant rants.
I had my drugs secured firmly inside my purse but didn’t know why I kept having this feeling that I didn’t need them anymore.
I also didn’t know why but ever since I woke up in that room hours ago, it suddenly began to appear like I could see things from a different perspective.
Everything began to take form and began to have a new different meaning to me.
And in fact, Shannon began to seem a little suspicious and I could even begin to take note of those very tiny traits that she used to exhibit that I found nothing wrong with.
Now I found them every shade of wrong, and I really do not know why I felt the way I did.
I slowly trudged behind her like the puppet that I’ve always been but this time I had tons of things up my sleeve. I had a revenge plan and also wanted to know why Erik had tried to kill me.
She drove the car, but in silence as I was lost in my own tiny world throughout the journey and as soon as we arrived at wherever she wanted to take us, she jumped out of the Jeep and exclaimed;
“Isn’t it beautiful?!”
I quickly looked up at her to see that we had arrived at a beautiful busy park which had tons of people strolling past.
I nodded at her and gulped as words had refused to form in my mouth; I had lived this moment before.
This was the day that I had found out that Erik was my mate; The day that I had finally allowed him to touch my body, because I saw no other reasons to hold back.
This time, it was different. A lot different than it was the last time I lived here because now I had a lot of reasons to hold back; especially after knowing that he would try to Kill me again in the near future.
I watched her glide through the crowd effortlessly, ducking at intervals as she began to search for a place we could sit but as soon as we found a spot, a voice I had imprinted in my memory called out to us.
It was Erik, I knew that, and I was quite expecting the burst of emotions I used to feel when I had lived this moment earlier.
I remember sitting up abruptly, rushing to him with so much expectations as Kira, my wolf kept howling in excitement at the prospect of seeing our mate.
This time was a little different though, as the first thing I noticed was Kira sinking deep into my mind and refusing to have any form of contact with Erik nor his wolf.
I also didn’t feel that adrenaline rush I had experienced in the past or perceive that burst of sweet smelling air that I had perceived around him.
Everything felt oddly different and insanely wrong at the same time and I didn’t know why.
For a moment, I almost thought that the moon goddess had created me a different mate this time but I wasn’t so sure of that fact because I’ve never heard of it happening before.
***
Erik was beaming with all smiles by the time he arrived at our spot. His smile had been what had drawn me to him in the first place, but right now it seemed to irk me to no end.
He quickly dumped his bottle of soda on the table and turned to beam a smile at me as he said; “Avery…”
My name suddenly sounded weird coming from his lips. It sounded so annoying that I suddenly had this irresistible urge to punch him hard across the face but I held myself together.
I needed to find answers and there was no way I would if I pushed him away due to my resentment towards him.
Shannon was sitting opposite him and she urged Erik to sit beside me, which I allowed like the puppet I used to be.
I gulped loudly when I still didn’t feel a thing towards him and began to wonder if the moon goddess had indeed changed my mate while she gave me a second chance at life.
Erik shifted his gaze from Shannon to me, he looked quite uneasy and I couldn't stop clinging onto my bag as I was beginning to feel very uneasy myself.
I brought my bottle of water to my lips while I watched him watch her. In my past life, I had never taken notice of this weird fact but right now that I noticed the way he stared at her, I couldn’t help but think that he had some weird fantasies about her.
They shared eye contact for a while and when Shannon turned to look in my direction, I smiled, that stupid gullible smile I always had on.
I felt something shake me to the core and wasn’t sure if it was the fact that I now knew that they probably had a flirtation or something more that was making me feel this way.
“Let me go get us some drinks!” Shannon exclaimed suddenly, which made me snap my head in her direction.
She had a small smile on her face, and quickly nodded to me, then winked at Erik before strutting off.
I watched Shannon walk off quickly, looking as though she was being pursued and I smiled to myself because I knew that she was becoming quite flustered.
I also knew that she wasn’t coming back because that was exactly how she had left me with Erik the first time I lived this scene.
“A girl as pretty as you, in my books, isn't supposed to be this quiet on an outing.” he whispered sweetly.
“You’re supposed to be the light of the day, the missing light in this not so bright park.” He added, looking deep into my eyes.
The old me would’ve fallen for his sweet words but I was different now, and proudly unmoved by him.
I visibly cringed at his choice of words because it was the exact same thing he had said all those years ago; the same words that my young mind had found delicious, but now I knew better.
“Thank you.” I said dryly, not wanting to drag this conversation any further.
He moved his finger and ran them over the skin of my face until he began playing tantalizingly along the length of my lips. I flinched at his action and I felt a clutch of panic in the pit of my stomach.
I didn’t want this, didn’t want him around me but at the same time, I didn’t bother to look for Shannon because I had no idea of where she had gone to.
She had left me under the care of a monster that would devour me and I couldn’t help but think that it had always been their plan, to make me fall helplessly in love with Erik who was bound to kill me at the end of the day.
“Avery…” He said, but just as I was about to turn in his direction, my nose was immediately assaulted by the most sweet smelling stuff I had ever perceived in my life.
I felt Kira jump up within me, and then she mentioned that word that had me almost sprawling to the floor; “mate.”
I couldn’t believe this! Couldn’t believe that the moon goddess had given me another chance to live and then iced the cake by giving me another mate.
Interesting!
