Chapter 31
Shannon's POV.
I couldn't believe what Avery was saying. What time did she need?
When she apologized for her odd behavior, I thought she'll be back to her old self, but she turns out to be worse.
Avery is the quiet, gullible, naive, and everything but not the bold, fierce, and outspoken one.
I can't believe she defied the pack elders' order to get herself a mate, she's just too unbelievable!
I was boiling in anger as she addressed the pack elders, I wished she could just slump and die.
Everything seems to be going in the opposite direction, it seems as if all their plans are shooting right back at them.
‘No matter what Erik's mother says, there's something odd about Avery.’ Zowie's voice interrupted my thoughts.
‘Yeah, I know but I just don't know how to place everything. She was all sweet and her old self when I spoke with her, but now she's all out of the league again. Can you imagine this? Even if a soothsayer would tell me that Avery would be like this, I would never believe it. She's too stupid to change.’ I let out my frustration.
‘I know right? I never thought it would be so hard to get her into a trap. The worst thing is that she changes her behavior at will. Sometimes, she's all stupid and gullible but other times she's just what I can't describe.’
I know whatever she's saying is true but I just don't understand no matter how hard I try.
I can't dig around Avery all alone. I need the support of Erik, but the momma's boy wouldn't do anything without his mom's approval.
He clearly takes his mom as an idol, he'll believe if his mom tells him he's gonna die.
I never knew my parents but I can't be such a pest to my parents or allow them to dictate to me, it's all gibberish.
‘Why can't he just reason things out himself? He's a smart one, but his mother isn't allowing him to use his brain or think for himself. I don't understand what his mom takes him for.’ I cried in my head, frustration evident in me.
‘Our mate has lots of problems but the worst among all is his mother. Darn!! That woman irritates me to the highest level. If I caught her alone somewhere I'm gonna kill her. She's too bossy and dictating, I don't like such people. She thinks she knows it all.’
Zowie is one angry wolf, I just can't get enough of her anger, when she's angry, she doesn't listen, she does what she thinks is best at that moment. She doesn't seem to care what the outcome of her action will be, as long as she gets satisfied with her quest.
My wolf is like a vampire, always on the quest for action and the sight of blood delights her like nothing else.
Once angry, I have to try different tactics to calm her down. Erik has come up with different ways to calm my wolf, and most of her tactics work.
'Why won't it work? After all, he's our mate' I heard her say with a rough chuckle.
I want this meeting to come to an end soonest, I can't tolerate Avery's nonsense any longer.
She's annoying me so bad now that I grabbed my gown tight, I heard it tearing but I wish it was my claw that was tearing down at Avery's throat like that.
I'm not liking this shit at all... She better changes her new behavior or I'll be forced to change it for her.
All these bullshits weren't part of the plan.
Avery got the elders in a tight spot and I knew the elders won't have anything to say now.
I followed her as she left the Hall. I was way too angry to speak to her, so I escorted her to her room and decided to vent my anger right there but the girl turned out to be a total chameleon.
She said very little and became her meek self again.
As she hugged me, I hugged her so tight that I wished to squeeze the life out of her.
As I left her room, my face was burning with anger, my inside became a raging volcano and I knew at once that I had to find Erik.
Zowie isn't making things better, her anger is sparking mine and I need a place to cool off, so I sneaked to Erik's place as usual.
When I found out that Erik was my mate, I was so happy that I wish to announce it to anyone who cares to listen, but Erik holds me back.
He's not just a common wolf, he's the son of the beta and I couldn't ask for more.
Avery has always had all the attention in the pack, she's the next Luna after all.
Back in school, she was an attention grabber, she's beautiful and talented, I'm not such a toast myself but who cares for an adopted daughter?
This had made me desperate and I wanted to take everything away from her Erik offers the perfect plan.
I couldn't deny it was a great plan, a masterpiece but it hurts to see my mate going for another but I knew it was for the best.
Sneaking into my mate's room is the worst form of embarrassment to me but I was willing to do anything to bring Avery down.
I don't care who dies in the process, I just want to be by Erik's side and the Luna of the pack.
It would be the best dream come true.
As I entered his room, I could see he had a worried expression on his face but I was too angry to care.
As usual, he pacified me in no time, but I got infuriated again when I heard about Avery's postponement of their date.
That girl is so annoying.
Suddenly we heard a knock on the door and we both looked startled, except his mother, no one should know about us.
I quickly dashed to the dressing room, and he went to open the door.
"Mother, you startled me." I heard him say that, and she laughed.
"Which girl is in your room now? cause that's the only thing that gets you startled." She said as she made her way to sit on the bed.
Hearing of another girl got my wolf oozing with jealousy, but I knew it since the onset, Erik loves women.
He's not the type that stays faithful to one woman, one thing is certain though, he has no emotional attachment with them, he just uses them for physical pleasure.
‘Quit fretting zowie, you should know by now that Erik is not a one woman's man, and you should know of his insane sexual hunger...we can't be here to satisfy him all the time. One thing is certain though, his heart is ours so why fret over such.’ I said, trying to console the angry wolf.
‘All that has to stop when he becomes the Alpha and you become the Luna. I don't care about his huge appetite for sex, he either stays satisfied with what he gets or learns to control his sexual hunger.’ She huffed at me.
I know Zowie is right, but for now, we need to adjust to the fact that he's seeing other women.
He even wants to have Avery in his bed, I can't stand in the way of that.
I peeped at Ms. Deborah and the images of how she'd murdered the Luna in cold blood flashed in my memory.
That woman is cruel, sometimes, I feel like I don't know her, I feel she has other objectives for the pack.
She's such a mystery.
"You can come out now, Shannon. It's my mother." Erik announced as he locked the door.
I stepped out of the dressing room and she smiled at me. I smiled back and muttered "good evening ma'am."
"How are you Shannon, and how's your sister?"
"She should be sleeping by now, she should be tired after all that ranting she did at the meeting." I knew I was getting angry again.
I felt a hand behind me, "calm baby, we'll see how she'll escape me tomorrow at the party." Erik said and sat down on the cushion.
Her mother came and sat across, "I heard Avery put on quite a good argument in the meeting, I couldn't attend due to something I was doing. She must have been good to get the elders in a tight corner." She said, and chuckled.
I knew that a chuckle is a sign of anger in her, but I have stayed long enough with them to know her behavior.
I'm a good observant of people's character, I can write a book about these two evil minds I'm in conversation with, and I'm sure they'll earn me lots of cash.
"Well....mother, no matter what happens, I need to have Avery tomorrow. I need to get close to her and no barrier should be on our way." Erik muttered.
"Don't you worry son, when her parents were proving difficult, I silence them, so any barrier that would rise against our plan would face the same fate." She swore.
I stare at the two and I know immediately that those two shouldn't be messed with.
