Chapter 9 : Her past
╰───────────────────⋞╯
Frey was a brother who gave everything. Every day, he worked multiple jobs until his bones ached. Some days they had decent food, other days they had almost nothing, but Frey always made sure Rika’s plate was full. He paid for her school, her clothes, and her medicine. He was a shadow, working in the dark so she could live in the light.
But Rika didn't care. She hated him.
She blamed him for the accident four years ago. The crash that killed their parents, left her with a limp in her left leg, and burned Frey’s face so badly he became a "monster" to the world. To Rika, everything was Frey’s fault. No matter how many gifts he bought her, no matter how many times he stayed up all night to comfort her, she treated him like trash. She said things so cruel that Frey would often hide in the bathroom, sobbing quietly so she wouldn't hear his heart breaking.
Then came the day Frey died. He threw himself in front of a truck to save a stranger. He died a hero, but to Rika, it was an ultimate betrayal.
“You saved a stranger, but you left me alone?” she screamed at his grave.
Without Frey’s protection, her life spiraled. Four months later, consumed by bitterness, she jumped off a bridge into the sea.
She expected death. Instead, a purple rift opened in the air, and she was swallowed and send into another world.
In that world of magic and monsters, Rika’s "ingratitude" was punished ten times over. Her beauty, which she once took for granted, became her greatest curse. Monsters hunted her for her tasty meat, and men hunted her for things far worse than death. The pain reached a new level when her only friend, the princess, the person she trusted most, turned on her in a fit of jealous rage, brutally tearing off Rika’s left arm. She was left screaming in the dirt, framed for a crime she never committed, and hunted like a wild animal by an entire kingdom.
For four long years, she lived in the Monster Forest, sleeping in trees and eating bitter roots, her life defined by constant, paralyzing terror.
The breaking point arrived when a group of hunters found her. They promised to "rescue" her, but it was a lie.
Luckily, when they tried to bring Rika to the kingdom, they were chased by a high-level beast into a narrow, pitch-black cave. Trapped for days without a single drop of water or a crumb of food, the men’s humanity of that party finally snapped. Their eyes turned predatory as they moved to assault Rika and the two other women in the dark.
In a desperate, bloody struggle, Rika and the women fought back, eventually killing the men. But there was no mercy in that cave. As the smell of blood filled the air, a swarm of monsters began to close in. The only other surviving woman didn't hesitate to stabbed Rika in the back, pushing her toward the monsters to use her as bleeding bait.
Rika collapsed onto the cold stone, her blood soaking into the floor. She was starving, broken, and utterly alone, waiting for the teeth to tear her apart. But a cruel miracle happened. The monsters were not interested in "dead" meat. They more like the thrill of the chase.
They ignored the bleeding, motionless Rika and sprinted past her, hunting down the woman who had just betrayed her. Rika could only listen to the distant, horrific screams of the woman being eaten alive.
In that peak of despair, something inside Rika snapped forever. Her mind broke. Driven by a hunger so deep it felt like fire, she dragged her mangled body toward the corpses of the men she had killed. In a moment of pure madness, she began to eat. She tore into the raw, cold flesh with her teeth, swallowing her humanity with every bloody bite. As she chewed, the face of the brother she used to hate flashed in her mind.
"Brother..." she sobbed through a mouthful of blood. "If you were here, you would have protected me. You were the only one who never lied. You were the only one who truly loved me."
As her heart turned black with vengeance and her soul withered away, a terrifying power awakened within her. The Power of Catastrophe and Despair surged through her veins, born from the blood of those she consumed.
It was a dark, ancient magic. As long as she caused despair or took a life, she could heal herself and grow stronger. The more blood she spilled, the more god-like she became. She spent the next few years slaughtering everyone who had ever hurt her, fueling her power with their screams.
When Rika done with her revenge, she tried to be merciful. She didn't use her dark power on the innocent. But in a world where everyone wanted to use her or kill her, mercy was a luxury she couldn't afford.
Years passed, and not a single day went by without suffering. She was hunted as a criminal, a monster, and a freak. Rika was exhausted. All she wanted was someone to stay by her side, someone to love her for who she was and support her no matter what.
But time and time again, the people she trusted betrayed her. Those she called "friends" became greedy for her power, trying to steal it or kill her out of fear. Rika, the wanderer, became known as the Witch of Catastrophe. She didn't choose the name. It was the world who gave it to her, for what? Because she killed everyone who tried to take her life.
Eventually, the humans grew so desperate that they made a deal with some god-like being of that world. The result of that is, They placed a divine curse on Rika, a curse that would kill her in exactly one month.
Rika was ready to give up, but amidst the ruins of a city she had just destroyed, she found an ancient relic. It told of a path that connected all worlds, the Gate of the Multiverse.
As she read the text, a face flashed in her mind. It was Frey. She remembered his voice, soft and steady, saying, "No matter what happens, I will always be by your side and protect you." The ice in her heart finally melted, replaced by a desperate, agonizing longing.
"You're a liar, Brother!" Rika screamed, her voice cracking as tears streamed down her face. "You said you’d always be by my side! So why aren't you here now?!"
In her fury, she swung her hand. With that single motion, a row of stone houses was obliterated, swept away for a hundred meters. Then, slowly she descent down with an aura like a goddes. Then, her feet touching the ground as she began to step forward.
As she walked through the graveyard she had created, she whispered to the wind, her voice small and broken.
"Brother... please hug me again. I miss you.... "
Rika’s face was a mask of cold, hollow loneliness. She turned her attention to the second relic located in the center of the ruined city. The ancient stone revealed an answer that ,, she either needed the Gatekeeper’s permission or kill the gatekeeper to get the key to go to another world.
After that, she began a systematic campaign of slaughter, obliterating entire city-states just to harvest their ancient scrolls and interrogate their spirits. She burned through civilizations until, from the ashes of a dozen fallen capitals, she finally uncovered the secret coordinates of the World Gate and the identity of its Guardian.
When she finally stood before the Gatekeeper, she didn't want a war, she just wanted to go home. But the Guardian looked at her with pure, divine disgust. "You are the Witch of Destruction," the entity boomed, its voice echoing across the dimensions.
"To let a plague like you enter a peaceful realm like Earth would be the end of that world. You are a monster, Rika. You will rot in this cage forever."
The Gatekeeper didn't answer, instead he humiliated her. He crushed her in battle, leaving her broken and bleeding as she was forced to flee. In that moment of absolute defeat, the last shred of Rika’s humanity vanished. If she wasn't strong enough to kill the gatekeeper, she would become something much worse.
Rika began her march across the continent. She conquer and dominated city by city, continent by continent. Within a short of time, she had subjugated half of the entire world.
She didn't kill any of the Living Beeing, that would be a waste of resources. Instead, she turned half of the world into "power farms." Tens of Billions of creatures. Either it's humans, elf, dwarf or any other race, were kept in a state of perpetual, agonizing terror, their cries for mercy creating a symphony of despair that Rika fed on every second of every day.
To her, these tens of billions were nothing more than batteries for her ascension.
And that's the time, the time when the cursed gonna take her life. But instead doing that, Rika "Devour" all of that and turned it into her own power. Devouring most of the power of the so-called gods in this world, until they had to cut off their power in fear and retreat.
***
A thousand years passed. For ten centuries, every living being in that world attempted to rebel against Rika, but their resistance was meaningless. Rika didn't kill them, she realized that death was a waste of resources. Instead, she turned the entire planet into a living hell.
She submerged all of living beeing into a state of perpetual depression and chaos. She let them live, but only so she could harvest the darkness in their hearts. By the end of the millennium, half of the world's population existed only as hollow shells, trapped in an endless cycle of agony that fueled Rika’s every breath. Even the god-like beeing, once worshipped by human, stayed hidden in their celestial realms, terrified to catch even a glimpse of the Witch of Catastrophe. Praying she would never look their way.
Finally, Rika sought her rematch with the Gatekeeper. This time, her power was absolute. She crushed his spirit until the divine being was reduced to a begging wreck. The Gatekeeper pleaded for mercy, offering to let Rika cross between worlds the "proper" way. By being reborn in a new body with her memories erased so she could live a normal life.
Rika only smirked, a chilling, hollow sound. She thrust her hand through the Gatekeeper’s chest and ripped out his heart, ending his existence. As the divine protector died, the rift between worlds tore open. With a heart pounding with a thousand years of obsessive longing, Rika stepped into the void.
She drifted through the cosmic rift, a place where infinite branches led to infinite worlds. Using her iron will and her terrifying power, she forced a connection back to Earth, carving a path of white light through the darkness. She roams the cosmic rift for a little bit of time, until she found it, the gate to the earth.
She then stop before entering, preparing herself for any fight with Earth guardian Incase they rejected her. And then, she stepped inside.
To her surprise, she entered the Earth’s gate with ease, her god-like powers completely intact.
It was as if Earth had no Guardian at all. Wait, did ... earth really doesn't have any guardian? But she don't want to think much about it.
When she look around she realized she hadn't just traveled through space, she also traveled back to the year 2021. She was back during her high school years, the very timeline where one of her tragedy began.
Driven by a desperate, explosive need, Rika flew through the night sky toward her old home. When she found it, she hovered outside the window. Inside, she saw her younger self, depressed, holding a blade against her own wrist. Rika watched as her past self began to cut, a silent cry for help that no one had heard back then, except for her brother.
Rika remembered this night perfectly. Frey had burst into the room, saved her. She still remember his face and how much he care about her well-being. But, because of that, she got sent into hospital to get a treatment. An expensive treatment.
It makes frey worked multiple jobs just to pay for her recovery. Butnin return, she doesn't shown any grateful at all, instead she given him even more hatred. Rika felt a flash of sorrow, which quickly turned into a chilling, twisted smile.
"Don't worry, Brother," Rika whispered, her eyes glowing with dark power. "This time, Rika is the one who will take care of you."
She drifted through the walls and grabbed the hand of her younger self. A blinding white light filled the room. Normally, the universe would create a spatial distortion to eject an entity from the wrong timeline. Smeding them back to whare it should've been.
But Rika Beeing was far too powerful for the laws of nature to handle. Instead of being sent back, the Rika from the future consumed the Rika from the past. The two merged, and Rika stood there, her catastrophic power simmering beneath a fragile, teenage skin.
Rika sat on the floor, tears of pure joy streaming down her face. After more than 1,000 year, she finally gonna fixed her mistake. She was home. And now, she was waiting for the only person who ever mattered.
Rika freez in thare while her body still steadying from the impact of her being merged in one. At the same time, blood still Flowing
out of her hands. When that happens, Frey burst in.
This is where the true story begins.
