1142 Eat Well
Deng Fan’s eyes were fixed on the main door. All he wanted to do was to rush to the police station to save Xia He. Even if all he could do was to accompany her, he was willing to do anything as long as he could be with her.

Xia Wen walked in with a pile of documents and a gloomy expression on his face. At this point, Qiao Mei started feeling more nervous. This was enough to prove how serious this matter was.

 

“Eldest Brother, how is it? Will this matter be easy to resolve?” Qiao Mei asked.
“Not that easy. Bian Zhuo has accused Xia He of many things and even involved Mother. I reckon that the police will ask Mother to go to the police station for questioning tomorrow. What exactly did all of you do to offend the Bian family? Tell me about what happened that day,” Xia Wen asked with a frown.

Qiao Mei glanced at Deng Fan and he immediately understood what she meant. He told Xia Wen about everything that happened that day. Qiao Mei also told Xia Wen about the conversation between Xu Lan and the Bian family when they went to the hospital, but she only knew roughly what happened. Only Xu Lan had all the details.

“Mother probably stepped on Bian Zhuo’s toes, so Bian Zhuo is doing this to take revenge on us,” Qiao Mei said calmly.

“Our mother has even disclosed the number of lovers and illegitimate children he has outside. Yang Xin and Bian Zhuo have been fighting fiercely, I hear that Bian Zhuo even has a big bruise on his head! His face has also been scratched and wounded by Yang Xin. How can he not want to take revenge on us?” Xia Wen said sulkily.

Xia Wen was not blaming Xu Lan. He also felt that Bian Zhuo had really gone too far. Bian Zhou wanted to stop people from talking about his wrongful behavior even though it was true. What a shameless person.

“I can testify for Xia He that she had acted in self defense and did not hurt Yang Xin,” Deng Fan said.

“You’re close to Xia He. Even if you testify for her, it won’t be taken seriously. After all, there were so many people there that day and they all said that Xia He beat up Yang Xin. It’s useless if you’re the only one to testify otherwise.” Xia Wen was a little vexed. This matter was not as simple as it looked.

Bian Zhuo was just a small fry, so why did he dare to openly go against them? Furthermore, Bian Zhuo was the kind of person who had a lot of wrongdoings which people could use against him. As long as Xia Wen investigated a little more, he would be able to directly send Bian Zhuo to jail for a few years. It did not make sense for Bian Zhuo to target Xia He so harshly.

The Bian family was not in collusion with the He family and also not in contact with the other families. It was too strange that they would suddenly attack the Xia family.

“Yang Xin and Xia He have a longstanding grudge. It’s normal for Yang Xin to want to frame Xia He! Furthermore, there’s nothing a person like Yang Xin won’t do!” Deng Fan said agitatedly.

“That’s the exact reason why Xia He also has a motive to attack Yang Xin!” Xia Wen said irritably.

Xia Wen had encountered too many issues recently, leading to him having a bad temper so he spoke a little too loudly when he replied to Deng Fan. The trivial matters at home had been troubling him for a long time and there were also difficult issues at work. If Tan Jing was willing to listen to him, he would not be so vexed now.

“My brother is not criticizing you. Don’t take it to heart,” Qiao Mei explained as she looked at Deng Fan. After that, she asked Feng Hua to clean up two rooms in the backyard so that the two men could stay over tonight. They could then go and handle Xia He’s matter together the next day. It was too inconvenient to go back and forth so late at night.

Xia He had been a constant presence around Qiao Mei for a while so she was not used to Xia He’s sudden absence. Her heart felt empty. She lay on the bed for more than an hour before she was able to fall asleep.

Early the next morning, Xia Wen set off for the police station to find out more about Xia He’s case. Deng Fan did not stay idle either. When he heard Xia Wen waking up, he followed suit. By the time Qiao Mei woke up, the two men had already been gone for a long time.

Feng Hua brought some refreshing side dishes and freshly made porridge to Qiao Mei’s room and watched her eat slowly.

“You have to eat more. How can you have strength if you don’t eat?” Feng Hua said earnestly.

“I… I just… I don’t know why I’m feeling so flustered. I want to go and see Xia He,” Qiao Mei said as she held her chest.

Feng Hua advised her patiently, “Don’t worry, Miss Xia He has Young Master Xia Wen to take care of her. They’ll be fine. You don’t have to worry. The most important thing now is for you to take good care of yourself. If anything happens to you as well, Miss Xia He and the others will be even more anxious. Come, eat more. Eat more so that you have strength.”
