1380 Selecting Schools
“Sis, please bear with it. After all, she has given birth to a son and a daughter for the family. She’s currently the person the Xia family is most fond of! We can’t afford to offend her,” Shao Yin persuaded.

“Hmph! I’ll let them off for now!” Bian Jiu said.
Qiao Mei and Xia He were in the room choosing suitable schools and classes for Zhang Wei and the other three children. School was about to start soon and this was an important matter related to the children’s future. They could not afford to be careless about it at all.

“Qiao Mei, what do you think of this school? It’s not far from the house and they have good teachers there. Eldest Brother also knows a few of the teachers there! We’ll feel at ease if the children go to this school,” Xia He said.

Zhang Wei had already decided to go to the same military school which Xia Zhe attended. Zhang Chao and Zhang Miao wanted to study in a normal school and to enroll in the same school. Zhang Qin had chosen to go to a dance school which Xia He recommended.

Qiao Mei originally wanted to just choose a random school for Zhang Chao and Zhang Miao. She felt that all the schools taught similar curriculum and there was not much difference between them.

However, Xia He rejected the idea. Although the curriculum was similar, the ways in which the children were educated were very different. Education was the most important thing when the children were young. Once they developed good habits, the adults did not have to worry too much about them when they grew up.

“I’ll take Elder Sister’s advice. I don’t know much about these things in the capital, so what you say is definitely reliable. When you have your own children in the future, they will definitely be educated well,” Qiao Mei said with a smile.

“What a glib tongue. We still need Eldest Brother to make these arrangements! I’m just helping out with the planning. How’s the factory design coming along? Is it going smoothly?” Xia He asked.

“You ask me this question three or four times a day. It’s as if you’re worried that Deng Fan will mess up,” Qiao Mei said.

“This is also the first time I’ve seen him at work and I don’t know what he will produce. I’m just worried about you and scared that you’ll suffer a loss! You’re making fun of me instead! Aren’t you afraid that I’ll get angry and make Deng Fan cut corners!” Xia He pouted and pretended to be angry.

Just as the two of them were bickering, Xu Kang walked in and said, “Qiao Mei, Xia Xing’s fiancée is here with two other people. She said that they’re her older sisters and that she has something to discuss with you today.”

“What can she want to discuss! It must be the issue about the house. No, no, I’ll get annoyed if I see her. Just say that Qiao Mei is feeling unwell and I’m here with her! Say that it’s not convenient for us to have guests today and just send them away,” Xia He said moodily.

“Why are you so angry? Don’t you want to know what’s going on in Xia Xing’s family? Now that she’s here, let’s meet her and see what she’s up to,” Qiao Mei said as she looked at Xia He.

Since Qiao Mei had already said so, Xia He had no other reason to send the women away. She waved her hands and asked Xu Kang to let them in. She felt so unlucky. No matter where she went, there would be people looking for trouble. She should really hang a protective peachwood sword at the door so that those despicable people with ill intentions would not be able to step into Qiao Mei’s house.

This was the first time that the three women had come to Qiao Mei’s house. Bian Jiu kept looking around. She had never seen so many nice things before! She could not believe that a swing could look like this.

Most of the swings in the village were made by tying two thick hemp ropes to a big tree branch and using tires or wooden planks with holes in them as the seats. That was how a simple swing was made. Qiao Mei’s swing was exquisite and had been custom-made by a master craftsman. There was no way to make comparisons between the two types of swings,

“Look at them! They might take a fancy to something and ask you for it! I told you to leave them outside the door, but you just didn’t want to listen. I should ask Eldest Brother to come and talk to you and give you a proper lecture,” Xia He said angrily as she pointed at Bian Jiu in the courtyard.

When Xia Wen told Qiao Mei not to buy any more houses the last time, she had taken his advice. At the very least, she had not gone around to look at any houses for sale recently.
