Chapter 32
~Alistair~
The drive home was silent, as neither of us said a word to each other. So much for wanting to spend time together for more than two days. It had all been ruined by my own jealousy, and the inability to hide it.
Honestly, I had never seen Eliana this mad, and I could not even tell why she was so mad. After all, she already knew of what I had done. Why did she have to make it a big deal, especially since I apologised over and over again? It was crazy to be honest. I perceived her to be a very sweet lady, who hardly gets upset, but maybe I had just underrated her. She hardly got angry When, but when she did get angry, it had no undoing apparently.
That was exactly how my late foster mother was. She always had on a beautiful smile, and never got offended by anything, but it was tough when she got offended. She wouldn’t say a word, and would give you the silent treatment, like Eliana was doing right now, just ignoring you and pretending that you do not exist. I discovered back then that what she really needed to calm down was time, so, anytime she got in the mood, my foster father and I will just let her be, and in a few hours, or even a couple of days, she was going to be fine.
Eliana probably needed time to heal, too. She had just left the market with all the food trucks angrily, and I ran after her, attempting to explain my own side of the story to her, but, of course, she didn’t listen. I even tried begging her to get in the car, so, I could drive her home. Instead, she practically snubbed me and got a cab to take her home. It was a miracle that she was sitting next to me right now, and she wouldn’t have supposing she had found a cab willing to drive her all the way to her parents’ home.
I had just walked in on her packing all her stuff into her backpack. I knew that there was no way I could stop her, and just sat on the bed, assisting her to pack her things. She acted like she didn’t even know that I was there, and kept on doing her own thing, paying me no attention. When she was done with packing her stuff, she sat down to eat her burritos to fill up the hunger she felt, before attempting to get a cab to take her all the way into the city.
When she had failed to get a cab, I wanted to persuade her into staying for the night, and try to use my charms on her, since there was definitely no way she could remain angry if she saw me naked. Instead, she’d let go of all her anger and want me badly, but no... I wasn’t shallow, and I respected her enough to offer to drive her home, with the promise that she wouldn’t even notice I was there.
Seeing that she had no choice, she had agreed to go home with me, on the condition that we didn’t speak to each other, promising that she was going to jump out of my car in the middle of the road, in a night as cold and dark as this one, should I try to initiate a conversation with her. From the look in her eyes, I could tell that she wasn’t playing with her words, and I could also sense a strong will of determination in her.
That was the reason I remained silent, and occupied with my thoughts, trying to ignore the urge of wanting to talk with the beautiful young lady sitting next to me, in a short tight dress. Not only was her body seducing me, her indifferent attitude towards me was killing me. It was hard to ignore her, but I didn’t have a choice. At least, I had gotten the chance to sit next to her and take her home. Imagine how it was going to look like if a cab had dropped her off, after a car picked her up.
However, I couldn’t sit beside her any longer. Every driver always had a destination in mind, and couldn’t keep driving forever even if he wanted to, as he would have to stop somewhere. As for me, I had arrived at my destination, and I really wished Eliana was asleep, so, I could drive her in circles, just for a chance to remain as close as I was to her.
I pulled over at her gate, and she picked up her purse and her backpack that was resting close to her, which she had, for some reason, refused to keep in the trunk of the car, and stepped down from the car.
Wow! I couldn’t believe that she was still so mad at me. Her anger was getting unbearable, and it was making me get angry as well. I heaved a sigh, to calm myself down, then stepped out of the car, closing the door gently behind me, as I proceeded to have a word or two with her.
“Eliana,” I called.
“Don’t,” She said, in a firm tone, raising her left hand, signalling that she didn’t want to hear anything I had to say.
“El...”
“Thanks for giving me a ride home,” She said, and turned around, walking away.
“That’s it? Seriously, Eliana? That’s what you’re going to do? Fine then. Walk away,” I yelled.
She stopped right in her tracks, clenching her fists, but didn’t turn around.
“I mean, I don’t get. What did I ever do to you? What? Yes, I was so jealous that I turned off your phone and tried to see who it was that you were texting, and I’ve apologised for it over and over again. I shouldn’t have encroached in on your privacy, and I’ve admitted that I was wrong, but aren’t you taking this too far? Is it so bad that I want you all to myself? Is it?” I yelled, starting to become angry.
She turned around, giving me a deadly stare, still not saying a word.
I continued, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have shouted at you. I am just so frustrated right now. Maybe you know how to hide your own jealousy, but I’m not like you, princess. I can’t control it, and I can’t hide it either. That’s just how I am, can’t you just accept me for who I am?” I asked.
She walked close to me, slowly. “Why can’t you change if you truly love me?” She asked.
“I can’t change because I truly love you. I don’t want to see any guy close to you, I don’t want anyone to take your attention away from me, I don’t want you to cancel plans with me to be with someone else. I just want you...all of you, for myself. Princess, I am not willing to share you,” I said, meaning every word.
“Do you know why I’m angry?” She asked.
“Because I’m a jealous bastard?”
She chuckled softly. “No. I just feel that you don’t trust me. If you did, you wouldn’t be worried about seeing me with any guy or thinking about what your mind is lying to you about. Love isn’t enough in a relationship. All is bound to crumble if there is no trust,” She said.
I pushed her hair back, touching her cheek. “I do trust you, Eliana. I just don’t trust Sam. Yes, you don’t love him after ten years, but how can you be so sure that he doesn’t still love you after all these years? There was no beautiful young lady in the forest for him to fall in love with, and you’re probably all he thought about while he was a wolf. How can you be so certain that he doesn’t want you back after all these years? Maybe he doesn’t just want to be friends with you, he wants something more from you. That is why I have been acting like this,” I explained.
“Well, if he wants something other than friendship from me, he isn’t going to get it, Alistair. You’re the only one I love, and that is not going to change. Just know that, and stop getting unnecessarily jealous, please,” She said.
“I will. I’ll stop getting unnecessarily jealous, if you stop spending too much time with him,” I said.
“That means you’re giving me the go-ahead to see him, but not spend a lot of time with him, right?” She asked, in a cunning manner.
“I don’t want you to even see him at all. When is he going to college? Things will be better when he finally does, and I won’t have to get jealous about anything anymore,” I said.
“I don’t know, Alistair. He’s skeptical about going to college at his age,” She told me.
“What the hell? Isn’t he just twenty-eight?”
She nodded, in the affirmative. “Yes. We’re of the same age.”
“There’s no age limit to getting a good education. As his friend, convince him to go to college, and also add that he should go far away from Los Angeles...or even California, for his studies, in order for him to experience a whole new world,” I said.
She sneered. “If someone was eavesdropping on our conversation, they’d think that you mean well for him. They won’t understand that you just want him far out of your sight in every possible way,” She said.
“Well, you probably aren’t far from the truth. However, what matters is that it’s still a good advice, and I’m not trying to mislead him just because I don’t want him close to you,” I said.
“I’ll tell him what you’ve said at his ‘welcome back’ party, and I trust that you’ll be there,” She said, wearing a smile.
“Of course, I will. I won’t leave you alone with him,” I told her.
“Okay, then. You should probably run along now. It’s getting really late, and while I’m positive that you could beat up anyone who dares to cross you, I still don’t want you getting hurt in the process,” She said.
“Even if I do get hurt, I’ll heal,” I said, with a sly smile.
She looked frustrated. “Whatever. I just want you to get home safe and early,” She said.
“I’ll get back home in one piece, I promise. Also, petty humans can not delay me from getting home early,” I said, walking closer to her, as she fumed with anger.
“You could just appreciate my concern, you know, instead of showing off that you’re a werewolf who has super abilities, that can get him out of any situation,” She said.
I encircled my arms around her waist, pulling her close to me. She gasped, and I felt her warm breath on my face.
“I’m reminding you of my super abilities, so that you won’t get worried about me. Trust me, I’m not showing off,” I said, bringing my lips down on hers, kissing her gently, and she returned the kiss.
I smiled at her, and she returned the smile, as I released her lips from mine.
“I guess I’d have to run along now,” I said.
“Okay, then. I’m sorry for getting mad earlier at you,” She said, with pleading eyes.
“It's okay. I’m sorry for being unreasonably jealous. I shouldn’t have let my emotions get the best of me,” I apologised.
“It’s all good. I’d have said that we’re all humans after all, but then, you’d remind me that you’re not human,” She said, with a smile.
“Yes, I would have. You should go in, I’ll leave after I watch you get inside,” I said.
“Okay. I’ll go now. Goodnight,” She said.
I smiled back at her, nodding my head and acknowledging what she had said, without saying anything.
She turned around and began to head for her gate, but slowly turned around, and met my eyes.
“If this is about me not saying goodnight to you as well, I was thinking of giving you a call when I got home to let you know that I’m safe, and to also tell you goodnight,” I explained.
“I know. You always do that. I just wanted to tell you that I don’t get why you should be jealous of seeing Sam and I together. You’ve got everything he doesn’t have, and he can’t even compete with you. You’re handsome, muscular, a CEO, and you’re not just any werewolf. You’re an Alpha, a sexy one at that... and only a fool will choose him over you. Guess what? I’m not a fool,” She said, smiling broadly.
I smiled back at her. Eliana could just say certain things to lighten up your mood, and melt your heart, making you smile.
“I’ll go now,” She said, and walked away, inside her home.
I understood the message she was trying to send perfectly well. There was no need for me to feel insecure or jealous about her friend, Sam. I used to be conscious of who I was and everything I had, but now, it just felt that I had Eliana, and it was as if I’d lose it if she was taken away from me, forgetting that I was not just her lover, but a billionaire, an Alpha, a man every lady wanted, but who wanted just one lady.
It was high time I stopped being jealous of whatever it was she and Sam used to share. They were both kids, and in order to end this jealousy once and for all, I decided to come clean to Sam and ask how he felt about Eliana. It was only then that I could be sure that I had nothing to worry about.
