Chapter 81
~Eliana~
“I am not still comfortable about you doing this,” Alistair said, as he pulled the car over, and parked just right outside the building.
“I know, but I’m going to do it anyway,” I told him.
He heaved a deep sigh. “When did you become so stubborn?” He asked.
I shrugged, giving him a small smile. “I don’t know either. Don't worry about me, okay? I just want to do something Ian would be proud of, and that’s why I am doing this in order to help his people. My family has failed him, and I don’t want anything to happen to the only family that will ever truly understand him,” I explained.
He took my hand in his, and squeezed it gently. “I understand where you’re coming from, Eliana. Please, just promise you’d try to find a way to dial my number. I’ll be right here waiting for you in case anything goes wrong,” He said.
“I am positive that nothing will go wrong. Just have the same faith which I possess. I’d try to give you a call if anything goes wrong, but I can’t guarantee that. So, you must listen to everything that is going on in order for you to be able to come to my aid if any bad thing happens. I’m putting my trust in you, Alistair,” I said, smiling at him.
“I’ll make sure you don’t regret trusting me this time around,” He said.
“That’s good to hear. I’ll be going now,” I said, opening the passenger seat’s door, as I slipped my hand away from his.
“Do take care of yourself, please,” He said.
I nodded my head to show that I was going to do exactly that, after which I stepped down from the car and closed the door gently behind me.
The old family house hadn’t changed at all; except for the fact that the paint was now faded, and most people would look at it as a haunted house because of the cobwebs, faded paint, and rusted metal. Heaving a sigh, I walked closer to the house and knocked on the gate three times, then stood back, waiting for it to be opened.
A security guard opened the door, and I looked towards the direction where Alistair’s car was parked, and gave him a small smile. He smiled back at me, and without looking back at him, I stepped into the house, which I hadn’t stepped into in over two decades.
When I had overheard Aunt Salome discussing with Alistair two days ago, I had felt really sorry for him. He seemed lost, tired, and broken. I also felt bad about the little girl who had been rendered an orphan, with no relative by her side. All her life, she was probably going to have trouble sleeping, as she was most likely going to have nightmares about the horror she had gotten to see at such a young age.
I was picturing Ian in her shoes, and that was when I realised everything had to end. My relatives had rendered one little girl an orphan, who could tell what they’d do next? They called others evil beasts, but in all honesty, they were the evil beasts. Despite the fact that they were human beings, they had zero humane feelings, and couldn’t care less about who they killed, and the most painful part was the fact that they didn’t even have a reason to kill. They just wanted to, and they were all built without having any conscience.
I was ashamed and embarrassed to have relatives like that, or to have even descended from that kind of family. Funny how I had never given much thought to my surname, and had never known the monsters we were. At least, my father wasn’t that bad of a person. The only time he claimed to attack was when he was attacked first, and it was a good enough reason to kill because one has to protect and defend themselves when in danger, but to just go on a killing spree for no reason was just another kind of crazy.
If not that I was here on a mission, I’d have told them to their faces that they were a bunch of losers, who needed to visit a mental institution because they were obviously not normal. I would have told them how ashamed I was to share the same blood with them, how terrible I felt when I saw that they were the cause of Alistair’s constant deep thinking, how hurt I was that my son would one day grow to find out that a little girl's family had been wiped out because of his mother’s family, and how sad their lives were because of paranoia.
“Cousin,” I heard someone yell.
I jolted from my thoughts, and I came across my cousin, Denzel, Aunt Melissa’s son, who I hadn’t seen in so many years. I was even surprised that I could still vividly remember him. He had been such a cute, playful, and carefree child when he was little, and I had no idea that he will grow up to be such a monster.
“Denzel, look how big you’ve grown,” I said, giving him a warm hug, which was not from my heart, but since he had been one to stretch out his arms to receive a hug, I just couldn’t deny.
“Look at you, too,” He said, after we stopped hugging.
“How am I? Am I more beautiful now?” I asked, with a chuckle.
“You are actually more beautiful, and I know you didn’t ask, but you’re also very attractive and sexy,” Denzel said.
A blush swept through my cheeks. “Thank you,” I said, giggling, as we went in together.
“Look who finally decided to show up,” Santana said, as soon as I stepped into the living room with Denzel.
“I knew you’d come around. Peter’s family can’t just all be stupid, and you’ve chosen to be the smart one,” Aunt Melissa said, wearing a broad smile, as she forced me into a hug.
I faked a smile, after she released me from the embrace, which had felt like she was suffocating me.
“I see that you two have already met. Denzel had to fly in from London yesterday just so he could help out with the mission, and since you’re his favourite cousin, even though you guys haven’t seen each other or spoken in years, I was hoping you’d talk some sense into him,” Aunt Melissa said.
“Why? What’s wrong?” I asked.
“He doesn’t want to join in the mission. According to him, we’d just be killing innocent people, and he doesn’t want to be a part of it. He also feels that we should back out from the plan. I was annoyed that he came all the way from London to tell me that,” Aunt Melissa said.
“An entire family was killed, Eliana. They don’t care if anyone is young or old; they just want to kill them all for no reason at all. I’m surprised you’ve even decided to join them in this madness. You should be smarter than this,” Cousin Denzel said.
At least, someone apart from me was sane, and in his right senses. However, I knew it could be a trap to test my loyalty, and I wasn’t just going to believe that he was not a part of this.
“Denzel, I think you’re the one who needs to be smarter than this. If we let those werewolves live, soon, they would rule this city, and the human race will be torn apart. No one deserves so much power, and the ability to kill us all, so, before they strike, we must erase them from the face of the earth,” I said.
Denzel scoffed. “I seriously can’t believe what you’re saying right now. I’m highly disappointed in you. Are you forgetting that those people have kids?”
“And so what? They have kids, yes! However, those kids are likely to even be the ones who would grow up someday to be threats and bring terror and chaos to our world,” I said, almost on top of my voice.
“You guys keep forgetting that these creatures have been in existence long before we were born. Even if you get rid of the ones in Los Angeles, how about the ones scattered all over the world?” He asked.
“When the time comes, we will deal with those ones, but for now, let’s start by dealing with the ones here in Los Angeles. Perhaps, it would even send a message to the rest of the werewolves and other supernatural creatures who are in other places. They’d cower in fear, and know that the humans are more powerful than they are. Trust me, they’ll never even walk in broad daylight ever again, and would hide deep in the forest, instead of mixing with our kind,” I said, in a firm tone.
“Oh, Eliana. How I wish you were my own daughter. Perhaps, you wouldn’t mind switching parents,” Aunt Melissa said.
I chuckled. “It would be an honour. My parents don’t know what they are doing,” I said.
“Of course, they don’t. How about your son? Why didn’t you bring him along?” She asked.
“I didn’t think it was necessary. I mean, he’s still so young,” I replied.
“You have to train him to be a hunter from this age, Eliana. Otherwise, he’d grow up to question your judgement and be a pain in the ass like Denzel,” Aunt Melissa said.
It was then I began to reason that Denzel might actually not be a part of the plan, but still, I couldn’t take chances.
“Since our dear aunt isn’t asking, I’d ask. What made you change your mind, Eliana? Why did you decide to join us and go against your parents?” Santana asked.
I shrugged. “Well, I discovered my parents weren’t as good as I thought they were. They didn’t want Ian to meet his own biological father, and asked me out of the house. Can you even believe that? That was when I got to realise that they had been wrong all along about everything. They’d do anything, even disown their own family, just for something they feel is right, when it actually isn’t. They are highly opinionated, and it’s so sickening. Everything they’ve said about you all has just been a lie to cover up the fact that they’re wrong. That’s why I have decided to give my life for this cause,” I explained, which of course, was all false.
Santana smiled, looking really impressed.
Aunt Melissa patted my back. “You and Denzel used to be great friends when you were younger. It will be nice if you can talk some sense into him. I’m so proud that you’ve finally seen the light,” She said.
“Thanks, aunt,” I said.
“Now, did I mention how we have the upper hand against the werewolves and other supernatural creatures in Los Angeles?” She asked.
I nodded my head, in the affirmative. “Yes, you did mention it. You said you guys developed a potion which can help you see when someone isn’t a human being,” I said. Of course, I knew. It was the main reason for me being here.
“Exactly, we did inform you and your pathetic family. With that potion, we are going to find out the location of every supernatural creature, hunt them down and kill them, without showing any mercy,” Aunt Melissa explained.
“Can you do that, Eliana? You’ve always been so weak. You wouldn’t even kill an annoying cockroach when you were younger. The fact that you’ve had a son even seems to have made you weaker. Are you sure you’ll be able to handle it?” Santana asked.
I rolled my eyes. “Did I tell you that I know a lot about supernatural creatures, especially werewolves?” I asked.
“No. Not really,” She responded.
“My friends and I were attacked by a wild werewolf once, and in the process, two of my friends died, and one went missing for ten years. I know what those things are capable of doing, and on behalf of my late friends and the one whose life was stolen from him for ten good years, I am going to slaughter any werewolf I come across,” I said, firmly.
“Well, then, I guess it is time to show us your loyalty,” Aunt Melissa said, walking over to a statue of an Egyptian goddess. She twisted the know around its neck, and became a big basin filled with a green bubbly potion.
“What is that?” I asked.
“That’s the potion, Eliana. What you know is that you’d be able to recognise a supernatural creature if you drink of it, but what you don’t know is that you’d be filled with a strong desire to kill it once you come across it,” She explained.
I inhaled, shocked at her words.
“Come on, drink,” Santana urged, while Denzel shook his head, in order to tell me not to.
I had to show them that I was loyal, and that was why I had come here in the first place. I had offered to pretend that I now supported them, whereas I was acting as a spy for the Crimson moon pack. Since they didn’t know their next move, they hadn’t known how to plan ways to conquer them all.
However, I had informed them of the potion, and Katherine, the witch, was sure that she knew all about it. She had said that just a single drop of an Alpha’s blood was enough to render the potion useless. Alistair had given me a small amount of his blood, and it had been placed in a very tiny bottle, which was hidden in my bra.
My aim was to pour it into the basin, which contained the potion, but since all eyes were on me, it was impossible to do that. I trembled, wondering what I was to do.
“How long does the potion last?” I asked.
“Twenty-four hours, dear. Are you drinking or not?” Aunt Melissa questioned, in a very harsh tone.
I heaved a sigh, not knowing what to do. I couldn’t drink something I knew may poison my mind against Alistair, as well as my own son, Ian. It was time to call it quits, and tell them I had changed my mind. I wanted to help Alistair, I really did; and I knew I was doing him a lot of help by refusing to drink the potion.
Just then, the doorbell rang continuously.
“Who the hell is ringing the doorbell like an animal?” Santana asked rhetorically, as she went to the door.
For a moment, they forgot all about me, and rather, focused their attention on the doorbell, which kept on ringing.
That gave me the time I needed to quickly remove the small bottle, containing Alistair’s blood from my bra, and I immediately emptied the contents into the green bubbly potion, making sure no one saw me.
When the door was opened, no one was found there, and they began to wonder if the doorbell had just been malfunctioning on its own.
I smiled, realising that Alistair had been listening to our conversation, and had stepped in just at the right time, to give me the distraction they needed, so that I could make their potion lose its potency. It wasn’t going to be a problem to drink it now, and together, Alistair and I had won this round.
