Epilogue
One year later
~Alistair~
Ivy stirred in her sleep, as we took a stroll around the estate, in matching hoodies, and jean trousers.
“How many times do I have to tell you to support her neck with your hands whenever you’re carrying her?” Eliana asked.
“I’m sorry,” I said, wearing a smile, doing exactly what she had told me to.
Although Ivy was already six months old, I still had a hard time with actually knowing what and what not to do. I was willing to try harder with our next baby, but Eliana had made it clear that she didn’t want more kids, and I was cool with that, especially since we had a lot of things to take care of, now that not only did I have to run the company, I also had to take care of the Pack, since Aunt Salome had stepped down.
“Have you made a decision on what to do now that Aunt Salome’s mind is made up?” Eliana asked, as if she could read my thoughts.
“No. Not yet. I’m still confused,” I said.
“The Pack needs a leader, you know, and she had done pretty great with leading them all this time. I support her decision to step down and spend the rest of her life travelling from one place to another. She deserves it,” Eliana said.
I nodded my head, agreeing with what she had said. “Yeah, she does. I just have a lot going on right now with the company and stuff, and I’m not sure if I want to add more work to the one I already have. I don’t want to end up overworking myself, and dying in the process. I want to see the strong werewolf Ian would grow up to be, and I want to torment the life of Ivy’s suitor a little bit before agreeing to give her hand in marriage to him, just like your father did,” I explained.
“You’re not going to die from all this stress, I promise. You have people to support you, and you always have me by your side,” She said.
“I know, I know. It’s just that the responsibilities of a Luna are way too much. My people love you, yes, but it doesn’t change the fact that you’re human, and they can’t answer to a human. I’m sorry to say, but you can’t even be able to function like a Luna if I accept the role of leadership,” I told her.
“Then, make her a werewolf,” Ian chipped in, looking up from the butterfly in his hands that he had been so engrossed with all this while.
“No, I can’t do such a thing,” I said.
“Yes, you can, and you will. Ian is right, Alistair. I’m the only one who is different in this family, and I have also been thinking about it. I have nothing to lose, okay? Make me like you, and let’s rule Crimson moon pack together,” She said, with her ever warm smile.
“Are you sure you want that?” I asked, surprised by her request.
“I’m positive. If I could get the courage to finally stop being an anonymous scriptwriter, then, I can also pull off this human skin. I mean, I’d also like to be able to have heightened abilities and rip my enemies apart,” She said, chuckling.
I gave a short laugh. “So, we’re doing this, then?” I asked.
“I guess so. Tomorrow morning, you’ll bite me, but for today, let me enjoy the breeze and my last evening as a human being,” She said.
“Way to go, mum,” Ian said, grinning from ear to ear.
“I love you so much,” I said, looking at her, with the same adoration that I had always looked at her with.
“I love you, too,” She said, giving me a big kiss on the cheeks.
We waved at our neighbours, Garrett and Carrie, who had been staring at us from their window, and continued to take a stroll together as one little happy werewolf family.
If I was asked to say why this story started in the first place, I wouldn’t say it was because of revenge; I would say it’s because I always wanted to have a family, where I could be loved, and be shown how much I was cherished.
I had never gotten that from my biological parents, and just when they were about to make it up to me by organising a mini family picnic, the Venator family hunters had stopped it from happening, and that was why I had taken out my anger on them.
I had mistaken what I wanted to be revenge, but now, I knew better that the one thing that actually matters to me is my family... the Duke family, and together, things will be better for the Crimson moon pack and the Duke Group. They say family is the greatest institution, and I have it now.
I wasn’t just a billionaire, I wasn’t just a CEO, I wasn’t just an Alpha. I was a husband, a father, a leader, and I was loved by my family, and Eliana had been the one to give me that family, and I was never ever going to stop loving her.
All I had ever wanted was to love and be loved by the people who share the same blood as me, and we were going to conquer our enemies and live perfectly fine because we were family, and we were forever going to have each other’s backs, no matter what happened.
When I looked back at how everything had started, I couldn’t help but smile, amazed at the fact and the reality that life was indeed filled with surprises.
At first, I had just seen her as a tool which was meant to aid in my revenge, and that was why I had saved her life, in order to destroy that same life in the future.
To her, I had just been the evidence she needed to prove her theory and belief in supernatural creatures, but love had found us, and had made us one.
Love can sneak up on you in the moment you least expect it, and when it comes knocking on your door, you have no option other than to open it up, because it certainly won’t take no for an answer.
If I could find love, so can you.
THE END.
