Ophira the birther
But they are seen as taboo here…and it is not me and Ace have any twin's blood in us.
Whatever, I am just excited once they open to this world. I am excited to meet them and shop for them, feed them, and take care of them.
One of their seasoned birthers comes in and teaches me the ways of an expectant mother. But since I am human, the circumstances are different.
She was eyeing me up and down, smiling at me as her hands were carrying my belly.
“I am Ophira, I’m the birther of the pack. Nice to meet you, Luna Kira.”’
I offered her a polite smile, “Nice to meet you too, Ophira.”
“How many months does a human carry her child?” She asked, waiting for an answer. “I want to ask you dear as this is my first time handling a pregnant human….I believe your body is much more delicate for us.”
“For us, we need 9 months for the baby to develop.” I respodned to her quesiton.
“Here in our world, we don’t wait that long. It’s only 4 months here.”
4 months? I wasn’t oriented with this! I am too stunned to even make a sound. I gasped. That’s too short. Can I handle that?
“But then again, you are carrying the alpha pups with some human genes. I am not sure how many months you’ll conceive.”
I gulped at her warning. “Alpha’s pups? Does it have any difference if I were carrying a normal werewolf?”
She gently smiled at me, “Yes, Luna. Since Alphas are typically bigger than us, there is a 90% chance that their pups would also be bigger than any normal ones.”
That instinct scared me, will I get through this? Birthing a big child? Gosh, I pray for my thing that it can push them out!
“Have you heard of….any…critical pregnancy?”
She nodded, “I do not want to tell you this and give you stress but I had encountered lots of incidents that had risked the mother and the baby…” She started to explain, “One time I had to witness a mother having a high birth canal, her vagina couldn’t push the child in one go, so we resorted to slicing her stomach and manually pulling the pup.”
Oh, I guess they don’t have a term of that process in this place….“Oh, a C-section?” I asked.
“Is that what you call there?”
I agreed and she nodded.
“I see. A C-section then.” I knew she could feel how nervous I am with the hormones I was sending so her hands fall on my lap, “Do not worry, I am here to guide you in your whole journey, Luna.” She assured me, I feel comforted by her words, seeing her as my mother, a womanly figure that I have been looking for in my entire life.
“We will make it easier for you.”
I knew she would be my midwife and also ob-gyne as I noticed from our conversation, the werewolf world has always been accepting and supporting the natural way of birthing.
But since she-wolves have been strong and trained, taught how to conceive early on in their life, I feel a bit jealous of how their body could take it. They could even push child after child and would appear fine the next day just from healing instantly. They seemed to have a built-in machine birther inside them….
I hope I could do that too.
“I advise you to spend more time with the alpha so his warmth would reassure you and the baby. And this will also make their bond stronger and will create a connection early on.” She said. “The baby will then recognize his dad and not see him as a threat to keep you away from.”
“Oh, they could do that?” I felt amazed hearing that. I didn’t know it would be this interesting, aside from the pain I feel.
“Yes, and for now, I could feel your baby’s presence.e It is trying to figure out who you are. It is still feeling strange in your blood so he is rejecting you and making you bleed. You need to foster a connection with the baby.”
“How?”
“There is not a definite process, but you will know how eventually.”
Ophira was kind enough to patiently answer all of my questions after that and when I had somehow had all my questions answered, she left me alone, saying she would come back to check up on me after a few hours or so a day.
And for the whole week, all I did was focus on how to foster a connection with my baby. I felt weak and drained so I felt nauseated and vomited now and then. I counted and felt that I had been sleeping for a whole week.
There was a knock on the door, and I could feel Ace’s presence.
“Kira, baby, are you alright?” His deep voice asked, and I huffed.
“I’m surprised you’re alive still, you didn’t show up for a whole week.”
“I know, I apologize, I felt uneasy seeing you in pain, I could only stay here in the door and check on you.”
I frowned, “You were there the whole time?”
“Yes, So please understand. It is hard watching you in pain for me. I know it was too ahead for you and I would like to give you my support.”
I scoffed, “Yeah right, now that you say it, you have to make it up to me. Give me some blueberry, I am carving for it.”
At that, I could sense he was on alert, “Whatever you crave, I will look for it for you.”
He then disappeared after that, and it took him a few hours.
“It’s too long, Where did you go?”
“I traveled far, blueberry is not found in our area.”
I gasped, my heart melting at it but I felt like testing him too. HEderservs that for making me feel hurt.
I ate the blueberry and then ended up vomiting it.
“Ah, the baby must not want that.” He chuckled.
But I felt bad, knowing he just traveled far just to give me that.
“Do not worry, my love, I am willing to go do anything for you and our baby. Just tell me what you want and I’ll give it to you.” He said kissing my forehead.
I had asked him to massage me and fell asleep.
And when I suddenly woke up in a pool of blood, I yelled for help, seeing Ace instantly at my side.
Ophira, my birther, was called and the moment she saw me, she muttered a curse, “This is bad,
Luna. your insides are bleeding. Your hospital can only treat you,”
Ace instantly held my hand, “No, there would be humans.”
“Kira is a human, that’s where she needs to be helped. not here.” the pack doctors said,d “This is out of my scope now.”
“No,” Ace said, “I had assigned you, the best birther to help her, you need to try hard.”
Ophira sighed, “Alpha, as much as I want to, I couldn't.”
Ace clenched his jaw, “I am not allowing my luna there. She would be put under a lot of needles and would be examined if they find out she’s expecting a werewolf inside.”He said, “Then what do you want her to do here? The pack healer can't heal her. We don't know what is wrong with her and the baby if they are even compatible.”
“This is my fault.” He said, “I will do anything to keep you alive and not lose our pups.” Just trust me.”
