Misfortune of Fate
- Vern's POV -
"Dad, I don't understand him. I think I never would." I said frustratingly to my unconscious father.
I was mad and I couldn't help but burst all my feelings to dad, I wanted to tell him everything that happened to me. It has been my hobby. I knew dad wouldn't know, he wouldn't hear me but I wanted to talk to him.
I took a deep breath, sighing. "But I signed a contract and I couldn't be apart from him for a while until the contract is done."
I said honestly, my father has been looking weak for the past few days. And tomorrow is the schedule of his surgery with the expert doctor that Dr. Virgilio was talking about, he told me that it was Dr. Broder Gargantilla, the owner of this hospital. According to Dr. Virgilio, that man is very expensive but he will give my father a free service and I don't know why.
He and even Sheina were so surprised knowing about it. They even asked me how I know Dr. Broder but I remained silent. Knowing that Hade is behind all of it.
I leaned on the chair beside my father, "You have to stay strong dad, please... stay with me." I held onto his hand as I looked straight at his face. "I want you to hold on dad, please, don't let me down. Tomorrow... don't let me down." I said to him, praying to God that his surgery tomorrow will be successful.
All I wanted right now is for my father to live, it is hard for me to lose anyone I love. And all I have is my father, I can't lose him.
Suddenly, I heard knocks on the door that caught my attention. "Come in." I said and it opened, revealing Sheina.
"You don't have to knock on the door." I stated as I looked at her.
"I know, Vern. I just wanted you to know I'm going in. I knew you needed time with your father and I feel bad for intruding." She said and smiled weakly.
I smiled, "Thank you, Shen. One day, I will repay you for your kindness."
"Oh no, don't, Vern. I'm glad to serve you and your father." She stated and I could feel the sincerity in her voice. "It's getting dark, you have to go now, Vern."
"Can I... stay here for the night, Shen? Besides, tomorrow is dad's surgery, I want to spend my night with him." I asked, hoping for a good answer.
Sheina sighed, "That won't be necessary, Vern. The visiting hours will be over and I want you to take your rest, moreover, I know you have work later. Don't you trust me?" I could hear the sadness in her voice when she said those words, and somehow I felt guilty.
I stood up, "Fine, I'm going home now. Take care of my father." I said, smiling sweetly at her.
"Good, will do."
After our conversation, I walked out of the hospital and headed home. As I walked on the side road, I couldn't help but think about Hade, his sudden change of mood and Agh! Is he bipolar?
Even though he is handsome, I don't care. His bipolar attitude irritates me. Why would he order me to quit my job when he isn't the one working hard on that job? Why would he... kiss me and act like nothing happened?
Damn it, I even merely forgot that we have signed an agreement... an agreement that I gave myself to him for money. I hate the thought of it but I couldn't escape because I have signed it.
Of course, kissing is nothing for him. I'm just a woman that he could take advantage of in exchange for money. He seemed to be a good kisser, I'm sure he has kissed a lot of women besides me and I don't understand myself as to why I feel mad thinking about it.
I stopped on my track and looked up at the sky. It was getting dark and I had to hurry because I still had to prepare for my work.
I continued walking until I reached my apartment. However, I was surprised by what I saw. All of my belongings were intact outside my apartment and it felt like a bucket of water was thrown to me.
I walked closer to all my belongings and then I found a note.
'Take all your things and don't show up on me.' - Landlady
Tch. Silly old lady.
I sighed, I don't know what to do nor where to go. I looked at all of my belongings, how could I take this all at once? I could not carry all of these and it was already dark.
Oh damn, what should I do? I don't even have enough money to pay all my debt to the landlady nor get a new apartment.
There is nowhere I could go, I can't go to work looking like a refugee. I cannot even go to the hospital and stay with my father. The hospital won't let me for sure.
'Hade.'
What was that!?
"Who's that?" I was shocked to hear that unknown voice as I looked around to see if someone was there but then I saw... no one which made me shiver in fear.
Was I just being delusional? I surely heard that voice... in my head.
But wait, Hade? Ah, no. I would never ask for help from that man. Even though in the contract it was stated that I have to stay with him, still, I do not trust him and... I am not ready yet.
I decided to put all my things inside my luggage bags. Until my belongings suited in two luggage bags, not bad huh.
I might just probably sleep in the street tonight.
I started walking once again, trying to find a good spot to sleep for tonight. Being absent for once would not fire me, right? Yeah, right.
Suddenly, I heard growling, realizing that it was only my tummy. Ugh, I'm hungry!
Just then, I felt a drop of water fall on my cheek. I looked up and saw the clouds thick and heavy, I knew then that it was about to rain.
Why all of a sudden, misfortune keeps on coming to me today?
Nevermind, misfortune has been with me my whole life.
