OLAMIDE
I was dead meat now. The intense look he had before he saw me was back. Alpha Sofiane did not like that I could take a peek into his mind. If it pissed him off, that meant it was not normal and I had been so gullible to reveal that information to him on a platter.
"They told me you were human." He hesitated before adding. "What are you?"
What was I? I was fucking human. I could not even comprehend what to tell him. Jason did not bite me so there was no way I was becoming one of them. Since werewolves existed, I could only lean to the stories the media told for my information. It was why I had feared for my life when Axel mentioned the love bite.
"I am not entirely sure what you are getting at Mister." I forced my hand out of his grip and he allowed it. "Do I look like I am a freak to you?" I was sure to even add. "If I were a freak, do you think Alpha... I mean Jason would be able to hold me captive?"
That seemed to catch his attention. "What do you mean by captive? Aren't you his mate?"
"I don't understand the concept of your world." I began, peering into Alpha Sofiane's steel grey eyes. "Two days ago. My life was my own. The next minutes. I was too drunk for my own good and encountered a man being murdered. I was supposed to be next too but seemed like someone had other plans. Now I'm trapped in this house with a demented werewolf. If you think I was dangerous and not to be trusted like your mind keeps screeching out, do you think I would sit here and just wait for you?"
The naked Alpha was very confused. His mind went haywire. Questions passed like how I could read his mind and he could not read mine. If I was being honest or if this was just another of Jason's tricks and the last one , a disturbing one indeed. How could he have a third chance mate? My eyes popped open at the mention of that. Sofiane's gaze remained padlocked with mine for so long that I started to fidget.
"What do you mean by that?" I demanded.
"What?" He frowned, walking over to the dead guard as he began to undress him.
"I read your mind. You mentioned something's about a third chance mate? What the fuck is that?"
"Don't worry about it," Sofiane assured, shooting me a smirk. "You don't have the scent. I cannot read your mind neither is there any innate urge in me to pin you to the ground and fuck you senseless." He paused for a while, slipping into the dead man's jean and jacket. It was covered in blood but it made it look more human. He then walked over and continued. "You are not my mate. But there is something that isn't human about you. Last time I checked, humans don't read minds and trust me when I say they run when they see monsters."
I shrugged. Was he implying that I should have run from him?
"I think if you really wanted to kill me, you would have done it already. I know the only reason I'm still standing is because Alpha...fuck it! Because Jason hasn't marked me or fucked me. Whatever goes in your books."
He closed in. He smelled like road kill and incense. The cologne was so strong. It almost burnt my sense of smell off.
"What are you doing?" I whispered, taking a step back as our body almost touched.
His fingers fondled with my hair and I heard a swift snip. He brought his hands down and I noticed he had a lock of my hair in one hand and a piece of broken glass in another.
"Isaac should be able to explain this." Sofiane's mind supplied.
I was going to guess this Isaac dabbled in the dark arts. It was just like the movies. So surreal, it almost felt suspicious.
"What are you going to do with that?" I had to ask.
"A warlock pal of mine should be able to explain why you can read my mind and why I cannot read yours." He answered, shoving the strand deep into his pocket. "So you live Beau. The next time we meet, I might not be so kind."
Sofiane then strode to the motorcycle, flicked it keys and looked in my direction as the engine came alive. It was his. The motorcycle I intended to use as my getaway ride was his. His engine revved like grunting deer for the second time right before he zoomed through the only clear path in this abyss of sturdy trees. I was utterly alone. It took a minute for the idea to truly sink in. I was a free woman. I could almost scream it. Suddenly, the string of blatant muders that had to happen for it to be this way did not bother me anymore. the different corners of the house did not bother. My plan was simple. I had to steer clear of the clear path to avoid running into Jason and run for my dear life. I was about to make a run for it when I realized Zeus wasn't with me. Dread tainted the upliftment that was formerly coursing through me. I abandoned Zeus and Luna when I escaped the room. Gosh. I entirely forgot they existed whilst running for my life. Was that humanity? I rushed back into the mansion, praying Zeus was alright. It was selfish that I was not that concerned about Luna but I could live with that. Zeus... Zeus was the only family I had left. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel or survive this if Sofiane wasn't at least a symphatethic animal lover.
"Zeus? Zeus?" I called out as I checked every nook and cranny of the house. I did not mind the bright crimson that painted the floors, even the organs that scattered around did not make me gag or feel light-headed. In a way, they deserved all that had come to them. I had been kept here against my will and they all watched it happen. This was only karma.
"The cats are here." I finally heard someone whisper.
The voice came from the room Jason and I shared. It wasn't rocket science. I knew who it was. I had saved that room for last because I did not want to see Axel's corpse. He was the only person who had been relatively kind to me since I came. He had even chosen to protect me from Sofiane not minding what that could cost him. It took a lot of nerve for me to even peek into the room. Axel was alive alright. He was however missing an arm and there were cuts and bruises all over his body too. It was indeed a gruesome sight. Zeus and Luna were calmly seated around Axel not minding that the fellow was bleeding or that minutes ago, their lives might have been in danger. That was cats for you.
"Are you alright?" I asked, unable to control myself.
"I think I will live." He managed. "Where is Sofiane?"
"He left." I supplied, pondering if idle conversation with Axel was stupid. There was so much ground for me to cover on foot not to mention that every precious second I spent my Axel's side meant Jason was getting closer. In the end, I realized it was a stupid idea to even make a run for it. Axel knew I was alive. I had consoled myself with the fact that many women who worked in the mansion were killed by Sofiane and Jason would have to believe I was one of them. If I ran now, I would be discovered or worse. His mad brother could finally finish what he started. I shuddered at the thought of it.
"He left?" Axel repeated, groaning as his body punished him for doubting my words. "Alpha Sofiane came for the sole purpose of killing you. He would not just leave you alive after..." Axel suddenly paused as if rethinking his choice of words. It horrified me nonetheless. Their kind tended to be rather brash with their words and actions. A regular person would be happy to know their friend who was in danger was safe but not them. They questioned everything.
"What matters is I am alive Axel." I said, dropping by his side. "But I have to ask you something, when Sofiane came for me. I could..." I stopped halfway through my sentence and flung my head backwards. His thoughts were a mangled mess but two emotions were dominant, Fear and anger and truly, he had never looked more terrifying.
