Chapter 11
“I’m sorry, what?” I asked trying to squeeze out from Beta Lucas’s vice grips of a hold on me. “You expect me to believe I’m some fairytale creature. I have a voice in my head not some wolf howling at the moon.”
“Of course you would think that if you were raised by humans. No one to teach you how to shift or be a wolf. You poor thing.” He said his grip just getting tighter.
“You’re suffocating me.” I managed to squeak out.
“Sorry.” He said releasing his grip. Letting me fall a few inches before my feet touched the ground again.
“Ain’t that something. You went from a human to being rejected by your mate to blood bound to Alpha Colton in a matter of weeks.”
“About that. What does blood bound mean and what about him saying I’m his slave.” I asked.
“Eeeeeee, about that. How about I tell you everything over breakfast. I’m starving and from the grumble of your stomach so are you.” He said with a wink.
I threw on the clothes he left for me. Looking like a kid in her parents' clothes. Everything was at least four sizes too big and smelled strongly of Alpha Colton.
In all the confusion and chaos, lifting the front of his shirt to my nose, his scent calmed me. Laila purred in my head. “You’ll just throw yourself at anyone won’t you.” I joked.
“Anyone that looks and smells like him hell yes! You really going to complain about being the slave of that gorgeous man.” She cooed.
“I don’t feel comfortable answering that until we find out exactly what it means.” I told her.
Beta Lucas leading the way through the maze of a house we took a small door off the hallway which went into the kitchen. It was like the one at Tommy’s restaurant only five times the size. Everything stainless and impeccably clean.
Beta Lucas started cutting and dicing things. My eyes went wide at his speed. Who would have thought this brute would be so graceful in the kitchen.
“Anything you like to eat?” He asked.
“I grew up on orphanage food, so really anything that doesn’t taste like cheese or ketchup on cardboard and I’m happy.” I told him.
“French toast it is. It’s one of Alpha Colton’s favorites and he’s in an especially grumpy mood today.” He grabbed a big pan and turned on the burner.
“You promised you answer my questions.” I said with a pouty look.
“Pulling out the big guns there missy.” He said waving his spatula at me. “What do you want to know. Ask away.”
“What is this blood bound slave thing?”
“Right for the throat then. Alpha blood is very powerful. It can initiate a wolf into the pack or bind them to the Alpha himself. You’re not really his slave per say.” He emphasized the last part with finger quotes. “You will find it hard to leave and hard to disobey him.”
“Why me?” I asked.
He sat down crinkling his face. “That’s a much longer answer but the short version is he’s using you as payback.”
“Payback for what?”
“Alpha Colton blames Blane for the death of his mate. He intends to use you to torture Blane.” He got back up and quickly flipped the contents of the pan.
“Why are you telling me all this and why are you being nice to me?” I asked.
“It’s not a secret. Blane lost his title for what he did to Gwen. Alpha Colton has been broken since her death. The two hate each other. When I saw Blane reject you in front of everyone, I knew Alpha Colton would be happy to have you. As to why I’m being nice to you, why not. Believe it or not you aren’t a prisoner here. You won’t want to leave but you could. Emily, you and I are the closest thing to family the Alpha has left.”
“Gwen was Colton’s mate?”
“Yes, they were disgustingly in love since high school. Both Alpha Colton and soon to be Alpha Blane believed Gwen would be their mate.”
I cut him off. “So, what exactly is this whole mate thing?” I asked.
“Just like regular wolves, werewolves' pair and mate for life. Some believe there’s a wolf god who pairs them, some believe it’s like human soulmates and some believe the wolves were mates in past lives trying to find each other again.”
My eyes fixed on the countertop. “So, Blane is my mate, my supposed soulmate and he didn’t want me.”
“He did you a favor, trust me Blane sucks. You dodged a bullet on the one.” He said flipping golden brown toast onto my plate before sprinkling powdered sugar on it.
“Who’s Emily?” I asked shoving a half a piece of toast in my mouth.
“Dam girl you really were raised by humans. No manners at all.” He joked.
“Sorry just hungry.” I said putting a slightly smaller piece in my mouth this time.
“Emily is Alpha Colton’s daughter; she is the only thing in all the pack territory that’s off limits. Alpha is very protective of her, and he’s made it abundantly clear that you aren’t to go near her.” He told me.
“How is that possible. You guys kidnapped me and I’m the one he thinks is dangerous.” I was truly insulted.
