Hunt or hunted
\“So….how many days have you been with your mate?” Asked Kira as she picked a flower as we were strolling by the forest.
Alpha Ace decided that it would be better if I befriend his mate Kira since due to my “bad behavior”, he thought that it would improve my thoughts being with another female being.
Well in fact. No. I only felt worse. Kira is a human, that was the only thing I could think of. And as a daughter of the past rogue leader who has been surviving by scraps and being hunted by my kind and by the humans, I think I won’t ever be able to get along with any of them.
No matter how kind they pretend to be.
And judging from this delicate human being beside me, I don’t think she ever belonged to this harsh world. How she could adapt to this world, I wonder.
I bet I could scrape my werewolf's nails to her skin and she would instantly die.
That’s how vulnerable they are. And somewhat dangerous.
“You know that I could hear your thoughts.” She suddenly spoke up.
“What? Are you something they call a psychic?” I asked sarcastically.
“No. But you're like an open book. Your face is easy to read.” Kira uttered, looking at my face.
I sighed, “Fine. Let me be honest with you. I don’t see myself being your “friend.”
“Neither do I.”
I snorted at that. See? So it was like this all along! Why bother forcing ourselves on each other when we don’t like each other’s company?
“Good. That’s good to know that we don’t like each other.”
Her lips formed into a pout, “But I don’t have anyone to talk to in our pack.”
Oh. So that’s her problem? Geez, why include me in that?
“And? I don’t see that’s my problem too. Go find someone to talk to.”
“The only one I could talk to is Alpha Ace but he’s not here..he’s busy discussing something with your mate…Just…be my company for now. Will that be hard?”
I tried to think about it but smiled sarcastically, “Yes.”
“Alright. I guess it would be fine to leave you with them?”
She pointed at the ten werewolves that Alpha Ace purposely left to guard us just to intimidate me.
I see. So that’s how badly he wanted to protect his mate from me.
He must have sensed my bad intentions toward this human yet he chose to force me to her. That damn alpha.
I turned to the glaring wolves and I gulped.
Kira saw my look of hesitation from me So she laughed, “I suppose so. So, I want you to talk about your mates. The twins.”
I paused at that. What? How the hell did the conversation lead to this? I don’t even want to talk about them.
“What? I don’t have much to tell about them other than they are cold arrogant prideful bastards who killed my loved ones.” I responded, making it seem like it was cool and didn’t affect me at all when I just wanted to run at this point and then continue talking.
“So you're just like me. You hated your mate.”
I glared at her, there she goes again saying that and it irritates me.
“No. Stop comparing yourself to me. I am different from you. My sufferings are different from yours. I have someone I wanted at my past place yet they killed him. They raided our rogue pack and killed my father in front of me. They took me as a prisoner and then one day I found out f*ck it, They are both my mate. Good. Happy ending.” I said sarcastically, running out of breath.
As soon as I was finished talking about it, Kira’s eyes softened at me and she looked down, “I see. I am sorry. that must have been hard on you. I guess that explains your bad attitude.”
My what? There she and her mate go again. I know I have a bad temper but if you don’t accept me as I am then why bother trying to get along with me?
“Well, mine is different.” She suddenly started to tell her story, “I was just at school when Alpha Kai came in as my physics teacher named Mr. Jones. One day I was attacked and he saved me. One day I found out that my aunt was killed and I was sold by my father. It turned our Aloha Kai bought me, having the intention of protecting me by his side. And the rest is history.”
“Wow. Cool. You have a prince charming. I was given two demons.” I said, then heard the school word. Wait, isn’t that a place where humans go to when they are a child?
“How old are you exactly?” Damn that Alpha Ace. He must have gotten her when she was still a teenager. It might have seemed normal in our world but in humans, I could recall that they have a term for someone like that. a pedophile.
“I’m 19.” She replied.
That made me stop. We were almost the same age. Except I am one year older.
In the human world, she should be with someone younger…not like the 50-year-old Alpha Ace.
I suddenly got curious about her. How she seems too calm and seems to experience everything despite being young.
“Does it bother you? Living here? I mean we’re all werewolves.”
She sighed, “You already emphasized that enough last time. But yes, at first it did. I feel a bit used to it now.”
It was her turn to ask now, “They say you were a rogue and I could see their expressions turning sour whenever they hear it. Tell me, Can you explain it to me? Is still don't understand your world. Is it that bad to be a rogue?”
“Then you're still not ready for this world,” I answered. “Being a rogue is equivalent to being a homeless criminal in your world. We do not have our pack because we were abandoned, cast off, and exiled from our past pack. We have to always hunt for food, and always starve some of us die out of starvation, especially in drought times. No one is our friend, everyone is our enemy. Humans hunt us to sell us to the black market, while our kind hunts us because they see us as a threat that exposes our identity to the humans.” I started to rant, now feeling my heart heavy as I continued. Morris started to flash by when I was back with my father at the Nightwalkers. How I wish to relive it even when we had nothing.
At Least we were all together. At Least we have one another.
But now, I am the only one remaining.
“That’s…bad,” Kira said. I didn’t know that a tear escaped my eyes as she wiped it away. I constantly pushed her hand away and turned my head in the other direction.
“I could remember how your mate, Alpha Ace, had hunted us nonstop. If my father didn’t come to unite us all and had formed a truce for the past year, we might have been dusted now.”
She nodded, her expression changing.
“Arya! You’re called!” I heard one of the guards from Alpha Kai’s tent call on me.
I instantly excused myself from Kira and ran to his tent. I grabbed the food and delivered it to Kai.
It has been days now and Alpha Ace decided to stay and camp here in Res Crows territory. Since Aloha Elijah was nowhere to be found, Alpha Ace claimed this place as his from now on.
I spotted Alpha Kai talking with Alpha Ace. When they noticed me entering, they stopped as Alpha Ace stood up and left us.
I motioned for the food and placed it on his table, “You need to eat.”
“I am not hungry.” He said stubbornly, standing up as he could move around now.
