Chapter 12
/His POV/
Two weeks later, Allie was still behaving oddly lovely towards him. Oddly lovely in the way that she didn't once lash out on him, didn't once make a stupid, mean remark, didn't once criticise him for anything. Not even when he barged in her Psychology class, she acted almost civil with him if it could be considered civil to completely ignore him sitting next to her in favour of listening to the lecture. Maybe the beta was finally coming in terms of their friendship.
They also texted each other back and forth with silly messages and stayed up to talk about anything and everything. Its a miracle she didn't block him after he made a lame joke about runners.
Nate was glad that they were moving forward as it would be much easier for him to proceed with the bet. Yeah, he's still on about it. How can he let it go when Ben made it a mission to remind him about it every time they are together? And it's every day. He needed to act fast to save his face in front of his friends.
Currently, he was sitting in the cafeteria with Allie, discussing the operant conditioning even though he had no interest in Psychology.
"Are you listening to me?" She raised her brow in his direction.
The Alpha groaned, "That's what I have been doing for the past hour. It is so boring."
"Why did you take Psychology if you have no interest in the subject?"
For you. Those two words were on the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed. He was not going to tell her that. Licking his lips, he opened his mouth to answer when something icy pelted his skin. The Alpha clenched his eyes and dropped his head forward, a chill running down his spine.
"What the hell?!" Allie shrieked beside him, pushing a hand over her eyes and shivering. She curled up in a ball; knees pulled to her chest. He stared at her, his lips twisting. That's a bit of overreaction.
Turning around, the Alpha noticed the person who splashed them with the icy liquid.
"Haley?" The Alpha said, confusion marring his forehead.
"You're an asshole, Nate," She yelled, her voice breaking. The beta threw her hands in the air. "How could you do this to me?!"
He blinked at her. "What are you talking about?"
"Oh, I don't know. The fact that we fucked all last weekend and you never fucking called. And now you're here, doing whatever it is you're doing with this slut"
"I'm not fucking him," Allie thundered, frustrated. "Why is that so hard to understand?"
"But I never said I'd call you. We were a one night stand," Nate said, baffled as he tried to wipe at the side of his face. That's a lot of drink over him. She had good aim. Most cheerleaders from their team did. "And she's my friend, Allie so tread carefully."
"I don't care" Haley's voice went higher and higher until she shrieked. An empty cup bounced off of his forehead as she burst in tears and ran out of there. The Alpha watched her till her long blonde hair disappeared out of his sight.
"What was that?" Allie asked softly, Nate flicking his head around to look at her, a bit surprised at the hurt expression on her face. He didn't think she would be upset by him sleeping around. Maybe that's progress.
"What?" He asked, breaking the funny silence that had descended over them since Haley left.
"That"
"I'm so sorry." Nate turned towards her, wiping the blob of whipped cream off her chin. She jerked under his touch, which she chose to ignore. "I had no idea that would happen."
She fixed him with a bored stare.
"You look as if you're going to scream any moment now," The Alpha said, grinning brightly at her.
"You don't say."
The Alpha held his hand over his mouth, his eyes crinkled and his shoulders shuddering. He sucked in a quick breath as Frappuccino dripped from his earlobes. It was gross and funny all the same time. Fortunately, he didn't feel that instant cold he did when it was splashed on to him.
"Shit," Nate said, starting to laugh. "I'm so sorry. This is not funny and all my fault. I'll, um, get us paper towels and clean this up. You wait here, okay?"
Allie shifted out of her seat. Determination clear in her eyes. The beta was drenched in icy liquid just like him but still shivering. That's odd. He thought that it must have already warmed her up. "Actually." She pushed their items into their backpacks with her sticky arm.
If anything, Nate was upset that her jumper was ruined because of him.
The beta handed him both their bags, a frown on her face. "Hold these." She looked down at him with a face full of sugar water and gripped his hand, cold coffee squishing between their fingers. He almost flinched at the touch, his brows raising at her. Granted that the betas had less body heat compared to the Alphas, but they should be warm by now.
Unless...No. That's too far fetched. Why would she pretend to be a beta? It sounded ridiculous even to his ears.
"Come with me."
The Alpha glanced at their joined hands. The icy drink glueing their palms together suddenly felt a whole lot warmer, his feet stumbling to run behind her. From the corner of his eyes, he noticed the students staring at both of them. Hissed whispers and muffled laughs buzzed in his ears.
Turning around, he gave one look, eyes narrowed into slits, and that was enough to make them focus back to their work.
"We should go to the bathroom and clean up," The Alpha cleared his throat.
Allie snorted. "That's the only option we have."
He got a sense that she's upset with him. On the way to the bathroom, the beta didn't bother looking at him and simply washed her face and angrily dabbed at her jumper. Before Nate could explain she was out of there and he kept staring at her retreating back.
As Nate was walking around the cafeteria back to his room, he noticed a group of girls eyeing him like hawks and fluttering their eyelashes. When he moved past him, they started whispering to each other and giggling like crazy. The Alpha rolled his eyes at the way they were acting. He's used to it by now, all the unwanted attention but still he didn't like the easy ones.
The Alpha could snap his fingers, and they will do anything he'll ask them. Of course, he's a Harper and stood higher than any other Alpha, also richer, but still, he just wanted someone that liked him for the person he was, not for his name. But also it didn't mean he wouldn't use them for a good fuck though. If they offer him their body, he wasn't a saint who's going to refuse and turn them away.

To cheer him up, Chris decided that they should hit the bar.
Nate got cleaned up, took a long shower and then dressed in a pair of dark blue skinny jeans with a black V-neck shirt. He took a bit of gel and ran it through his hair to make a messy sort of look before turning to his friend alerting that he was ready for them to go out.
"Do you have your fake?" His friend questioned.
The Alpha patted his back pocket and then nodded when he felt his wallet. The club they were going to was located downtown, which was about forty minutes from their university. It had a reputation for being notorious and promiscuous with omegas.
Most of the times, the students aren't allowed in, which was why Chris and Nate had a fake. Also, they were sort of famous athletes which would further ruin their reputation if caught. Granted, the fake ID never worked before; the bouncers always keep quiet when bribed with money. They let Nate in.
"I'll call the cab" Nate yelled from his room, suddenly remembering that they need to take an Uber since they're planning on drinking. There's a driver-only five minutes away; managing to get them to their destination in short time.
Upon arrival, there's only a little line, and as they wait their turn, Nate could hear the thumping music from inside. They waited until it's their time to enter through the black door. The bouncer at the door was wearing a tight black t-shirt with black pants, and he merely raised an eyebrow after receiving their fake ID but let them in.
The floors were a type of black marble, and the bar was in the middle of the club. The place was littered with attractive looking men wearing tight jeans and blazers; omegas dancing by the poles and the neon red and black lights made it impossible to see.
But still, he managed to spot Allie in the corner.
