It was already getting dark outside when we were just finishing everything and then suddenly there was a knock on the door.
Inala went to the door and opened it. I was actually expecting Steven, but in the end it was the beta himself who was probably looking for his mate.
"You look beautiful, my love," he said lovingly, looking lovingly at Inala. Then he looked at me and gave me a grin.
"Your dress suits you," he remarked casually. "Arsenic will be delighted!"
"Thanks," I replied. I don't know what he meant by the alpha. Why would the alpha show interest in me again? Maybe he has mood swings, just like Savanna? But I shouldn't care what he's doing.
Inala linked arms with the Beta and they started walking.
Since Steven hadn't agreed exactly where we would meet, I just ran after them. I didn't even know if Steven still wanted to go to the ball with me after the beta made its stand yesterday.
The three of us went out and walked a bit along the path between the wooden log houses. There were candles everywhere along the way and chains of lights hung on the houses.
It all adds a beautiful romantic touch. It was wonderful. An evening not to be forgotten.
After a short walk through the forest, we arrived at a slightly larger building. At the entrance, people were standing talking and light from the large windows illuminated the darkness of the night.
As I got closer, almost everyone's eyes shot to me. Some eyed me curiously while others glared at me. I immediately felt uncomfortable in my own skin. But then I saw Steven, who was waiting next to the entrance.
I smiled at him and when he noticed me, his eyes darted over my dress and his mouth dropped open.
I wanted to tell Inala that I'm going to Steven, but when I looked around for her, she and her mate were no longer to be seen. Confused, I looked around and searched for them. They probably already went in without me.
Suddenly Steven's voice spoke: "You look like a princess". I turned to him and smiled shyly.
"Thanks." He didn't look too bad either. Steven held out his arm.
"Would you do me the honor, my lady?"
"Certainly, My Lord." I linked my arm with him and we entered the decorated ballroom together.
Everywhere were people in the most beautiful clothes. The Beta and Inala danced to a slow romantic tune and the Alpha and his mate stood on a small rise talking to another couple.
The Alpha wore a black tuxedo. But you could clearly see his muscles hidden underneath. Savanna, on the other hand, glowed in a bright red dress. As always, she looked adorable and made her place with this striking color.
Because she just looked like a queen with this dress.
To be honest I'm super jealous of the dress. Unlike her, I look completely out of place. But I didn't want to pay any more attention to them.
Steven and I descended the stairs that led to the center of the ballroom. Many eyes turned to me again. Many were from people I have never seen in my almost 4 weeks here.
Savanna's eyes also darted to me, who smiled at me with a nasty smile.
What is your problem please? I never did anything to her. Because of them, I still have some scratches that could be seen under my revealing dress.
Then the Alpha's gaze shot to me and suddenly everything around me was moving in slow motion. As if in tunnel vision, I only had eyes for him.
His eyes moved all over my body, lingering on my chest a little too long, and then his mouth hung slightly open. I tried not to stare directly at him, but he watched me without even addressing the people next to him. To avoid embarrassment, I gave him a shy smile and then turned to Steven, who was looking around the ballroom.
"Do you want to dance?" I asked.
"Sure, but wouldn't that have been my part in asking?" he replied.
I just shrugged. I do not care. The main thing is that I get a distraction from this handsome man in a tuxedo, who is unattainable for me.
Steven grabbed my hand and pulled me to the center of the dance hall.
I wasn't a particularly good dancer and Steven could only dance in a makeshift manner, but we both had fun anyway. We were arm in arm and every now and then he would turn me, and we would laugh every time I stepped on his foot.
In a turn, I looked at the Alpha, who still didn't take his eyes off me. His astonished face from earlier gave way to an angry one. It looked more severe than the breakfast he almost strangled Steven at.
I quickly turned back to Steven. I didn't want to pay any attention to him. So why do I keep looking at him?
Suddenly a deep, dark voice cleared its throat. I recognized her as Alpha's. It suddenly became quiet around us. The music stopped playing and the couples stopped dancing.
Everyone looked in the alpha's direction, including Steven and myself.
The Alpha was still standing on his perch, looking out at all the people in the room.
"I welcome my pack and all the wolves who have gathered here today to spend the evening with us. I also especially welcome the Blackshadow pack. Alpha Hayden Black and his mate Emely did us the honor of attending our ball today."
Applause erupted around us and I joined in too.
"I would also like to officially announce to all of you that Luna Savanna and I are expecting a son. The result arrived this afternoon." He said it so happily, but I could detect a sad undertone. When he then looked directly at me, he smiled sadly at me.
My heart tightened. I don't know why, but it stung my heart when he introduced Savanna as Luna. Why did I keep feeling this way?
Why can't I just get him out of my head?
