Chapter 10 Mine Only
His mate… and his prey. His mate… had betrayed him. And she will pay after he was done with his prey.
Anna couldn’t see him, her hands still tied and her Alpha blocking her view, but she could feel his burning gaze on her.
Before Alpha Flynn could say a word, Alpha Liam ripped him off Anna and threw him across the room like he was a ragdoll. The impact was too strong for the weak structure that the walls gave in. Then his back made contact with a nearby tree, leaving him wheezing for air.
The building was coming down on their heads and Anna closed her eyes, unable to scream. She waited for the roof to bury her, but a hand instead brushed her cheek and she found herself in the arms of her psycho savior.
Without looking at her, he put her down on the ground and his voice sounded like a warning.
“Wait here.”
He moved too quickly for her to follow. Scanning her surroundings, she saw him raise her Alpha in the air by the neck. He was going to kill him!
Alpha Flynn struggled to breathe and try as he might connect with his wolf, the lack of oxygen made it difficult to concentrate. He was about to pass out when a gray furred wolf emerged from the woods and landed a heavy blow on Alpha Liam with its massive paw, which sent him flying.
The experienced Alpha shifted mid-air and dug his claws on the ground to stop the momentum, trailing deep streaks on dirt. Then he growled, loud and angry and possessive.
They were going to rip their prey apart and even his sister wouldn’t be able to stop them. Their Anna reeked of another Alpha’s smell when she should only smell of them. That scream belonged to them!
“Don’t stop me, Lexy,” Alpha Liam ordered in a mind-link. “He laid a finger on what is rightfully mine. My mate, Lexy! Mine!”
“We made a deal with Carson. You gave your word as Alpha,” she snapped.
“Out of the way, Lexy. Before this gets ugly.”
“No!” she confidently declared and blocked Alpha Flynn from his view which angered him more.
“So be it,” he said then cut the link.
“I’m giving you full control, Luca. Rip him to shreds,” he seethed. He let himself go and take the back seat as Luca took control of his wolf form, excitement coursing through him.
“I would’ve taken control if you didn’t let me,” said Luca. “No one touches our mate.”
Crouching on his hind legs, he prepared himself to sprint forward. He saw his prey shift into his wolf and stand beside Lexy. Alpha Flynn was almost as massive as he, with inky black fur and deep blue eyes. Giving off a dangerous aura that he was out to kill, he thought the same thing as Alpha Liam.
He didn’t know who the she-wolf beside him was, but Farrell answered his query.
“She’s his sister. The healer,” Farrell informed.
“Why would she help us?” he asked, distancing himself from her in case she was trying to pull something off.
“Something about a deal with Carson,” his wolf answered.
Alpha Liam sprung forward; his eyes zoned in on his prey.
“We’ll continue later,” Alpha Flynn said and charged as well before Lexy could stop him.
The two Alphas clashed, each trying to get a hold of each other’s neck with their sharp canines. When neither gave an opening, they backed away from each other and moved in a circle, growling possessively, and baring their teeth.
Alpha Flynn lunged at Alpha Liam and successfully brought him down to the ground with his weight. But the latter pushed him back and was immediately on top of him, aiming for his throat.
Luca growled, using every strength in him to keep Farrell pinned down. As Farrell kept struggling, he raised a paw and dug his claws deep into Farrell’s back. Farrell howled in pain, and Luca took advantage of his distraction by biting down on his neck.
Farrell continued to howl while trying to fight him off. And the slightest movement only intensified the pain.
Luca wouldn’t let go, the taste of his prey’s blood a treat for him. He reveled in his struggle, and bit down harder, wanting to hear him howl louder.
With a terrified look on her face, Anna watched her Alpha become victim to Alpha Liam’s fury. Farrell’s howls rang loud in her ears, and the thought of losing him scared her so much that her breathing came in short takes.
“No. Not another one,” she thought as her legs carried her forward, running to where they were. Finding her voice, she screamed, “STOP!!!”
Luca growled louder, angrier. How dare she protect him!
Letting go of Farrell’s neck, the latter whimpered in pain as his wounds started to heal. Turning around, Luca walked towards Anna, and she stopped at arm’s length from him.
“Please… don’t,” she said, shaking in his presence. And just like before, the words got stuck in her throat.
He took a step forward, then another, and she took steps back. Seeing his reflection on her eyes, and the visible fear in them, he stopped. Was he so terrifying that she would seek another besides him?
His heart sank at the thought. Closing the small gap between them, he stuck out his tongue and licked her cheek.
A low grumble came from behind him. Farrell was on his feet, the bite on his neck still bleeding. He was losing blood fast but paid it no heed. The only thing on his mind was making the other understand that she belonged to him. No one would take her away from him!
Luca turned his head to see Farrell on his feet, challenging him instead of conceding defeat. But before he could properly face him, Lexy came in between them.
“Do not interfere, Lexy!” Liam warned through a mind-link.
“This is not what you promised Carson!” she snapped.
“He touched my mate! Mine!”
If Lexy could facepalm, she would’ve. “What is it with men getting possessive over their mate?” she thought.
“Calm down and we’ll talk about this. There has to be a reason why she’s protecting him,” she said in an attempt to convince him, but he wasn’t listening.
“Get out of the way,” he said slowly.
“If you kill him, she’ll never go with you!” she said. “If that’s what you want, then congratulations on your wedding!”
Liam snapped out of his murderous thoughts and considered her words. He had lost control – his purpose for attending the mating ceremony was standing right behind him, scared stiff. He turned to face her, and she swallowed the lump in her throat.
She could see her fearful reflection in his eyes, along with a strange emotion she couldn’t discern. Fear? Was he afraid?
Raising a hand, she held it out to touch his head, feeling the soft black fur brush along her fingers. Farrell growled again, and this time Lexy growled at him.
Luca looked at Farrell, then at Lexy, then at Anna, as he contemplated on a decision. He took in her sweet scent, then he dashed into the woods before he changed his mind.
“Thanks, bro,” said Lexy through the link.
“She had better come with us, Lexy,” he replied. “I’m not leaving without her.”
