Eve's POV (ℙ𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕕𝕒𝕪)
My heart in my throat, I stared at Lucas.
Judging from the question he asked, I could decipher he hadn't heard much, and couldn't understand the little he did hear. But somehow, I couldn't stop my heart from racing.
It wasn't time, it wasn't time for him to find out yet. All my plans would be destroyed if he did and that was something I couldn't joke with. I had waited five years for my revenge. I couldn't let it get ruined. Not now, not ever.
"This is a family business, Lucas." Jay calmly said after a while, in an attempt to save me from me.
Lucas eyes never left mine. "I wasn't asking you, Jay, the question was directed to Eve."
"He just told you it is a family matter, and from where I'm standing, you aren't family."
"Then why did your expression change in horror when you saw me?" Lucas sneered, not believing a word I just said.
"I have every right to be modified whenever I discover someone eavesdropping on my private conversations."
Lucas scoffed. "So this is how you intend to play it, huh?"
Taking in a deep breath, I looked straight into Lucas's eyes. "You really have the nerve you know? Trying to bite my head off for something that doesn't concern you, when you couldn't even tell me the name of the woman who got us into this mess in the first place."
I watched his face change, his anger dissipating to become a stony mask of silence. "What a hypocrite you are," I added with malice, making sure to send him my most menacing glare.
Lucas stood there for what seemed like a zillion years, his gaze fixed on us, eyes blank. After a while, he bobbed his head and whipped around, taking the path from which he had appeared, heading back to God's knows where.
The moment he was completely out of my sight, I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding and turned to Jay.
"Breathe, breathe." Jay cooed, as I rested my head on his shoulder. "You did well. You did real good."
I just nodded my head in agreement. My mind, grateful to itself for that quick save. That was close, real close.
"We need to get inside so you can have a proper meal. Your mother will be turning in her grave right now in wrath."
I giggled lightly, lifting my head from the shoulder. "Where did that even come from?" I snickered, my brows turning up dramatically.
"From a deep fear of angry women. Especially ones with your mother's temper."
I tossed my head back and emitted a deeply rich laugh. Even I could agree that I had needed that.
We began making our way into the hotel, Jay's arms comfortably over my shoulders when I caught a glimpse of a guy in a grey suit, walking hurriedly into the lobby of the hotel. He looked eerily familiar, like I had seen him somewhere, and recently for that matter.
I tapped Jay on the shoulder. "Did you see the guy that just passed?"
Jay looked towards the direction I was pointing out and shook his head. "Which one?"
"The one in the grey suit." As I said this, I began moving towards the lobby doors, Jay following behind me. The moment we walked in, we sighted the guy and immediately turned away, eyeing him from the corner of our eyes.
"Doesn't he look familiar?" I whispered to Jay, picking up a magazine that had coincidentally been starched on the shelf we were facing.
"Honestly, I don't know. What makes you feel you know him?"
I pouted. "I can't place my finger on it. I have sighted him somewhere before and I'm sure of it."
I glanced at Jay and discovered he was deep in thought. "Okay then," He said after a while. "I'll check the surveillance video of your showdown at the hospital. Maybe he was one of the men you fought."
"Maybe. All I know is, I've seen him somewhere, and because we are being haunted, I can't be too careful."
"If you are so sure then let's move," Jay said and began walking towards the elevator.
Puzzled, I followed. "What are you doing?" I whispered as I fell in step beside him.
"If we are to find out who he is, we have to follow him." Jay grunted, before adding with a scowl "I thought you'd already figure that out? What on earth could be dumbing the great Eve Red down?"
I sent him a willful glare and he chuckled. We got to the elevator just in time to watch Mr grey suit punch for the 4th floor. The moment the elevator dinged close, we sprinted up the stairs, as fast as our battered bodies could allow.
By the time we reached the fourth floor, the elevator was already moving up and our man had ambled towards another corridor.
Was that guy quick or what?
We trudged after him, trying to act nonchalant and oblivious because we didn't need him spotting us. He made a quick turn left and we followed, only to be met by an empty corridor and the resounding bang of a closed door.
We stood at the foot of the passage and sighed. Knowing we had failed in our mission, we took cognizance of the corridor we were in and made our way back to our suite, laughing at the silliness of it all.
The moment we stepped through the threshold, I paused. A focused looking Rita was still in the very same position I had left her. I knew she was focused and all, but this, this was borderline obsessive.
I was about to snap her out of her trance when Lucas stepped out of the bathroom opposite his room. He was wet, and when I said wet, I meant mouth-watering, chin dripping wet.
I clenched my thighs involuntarily. Damn my mind and my slutty body. I had to find a way to keep her in control.
"What the fuck is this, Lucas?" I grunted out before my brain could completely process the statement.
"A man, in a towel, wet?" Lucas groaned with a sinister smirk on his sinful lips. Was he trying to taunt me or something?
"I rolled my eyes in annoyance. "Why did you have to use this door? Couldn't you have taken the door that leads straight to your bedroom?"
"Does this bother you, princess?" He grounded out, lips tight, eyebrows raised.
The fucker.
"It is unethical to walk around naked amid people. You are not in your backside mansion. You are in a hotel room, with civilized-"
"It seems you know not the real definition of naked. I could educate you with a demonstration if you'd like."
My cheeks went hot, fire licking down every nerve of my being. I opened my mouth to blast him with a witty resort but Jay stepped in, saving me from myself.
"I think you know what she means, Lucas, so why don't you go put on some clothes and stop being a big baby."
Lucas's lips turned up in a sexy smirk before moving to stand behind Rita. "Where are we now?" He asked, completely ignoring Jay's earlier suggestion.
"She's still at home. Moved around the house for sure, but definitely in there."
"Good, let's hope it stays that way. Now, it's your turn to go shower, you stink of blood and dirt." Rita shut him a look before placing her laptop on the bedside table. Standing up, she made sure to jab him in the belle before making her way to the bathroom.
"It's not just me, you all stink." She grumbled before banging the bathroom door.
I shot a hot look at Lucas and he raised his eyebrows in return. What the fuck was he playing at really? Was he still pissed about our tryst in the garden?
"What the fuck is your issue? Why all this attitude?" I thew at him. I turned to ask Jay to support me, only to discover he has disappeared, probably into his room.
I turned back to see Lucas smirking. "No one to back you up, huh?"
I ignored his sarcastic tone. "How do you expect us to beat Laura when you keep acting like a kid?"
"Trust me, Eve," Lucas growled as he began moving towards me like a panda on the hunt. "I have no intention of beating Laura, but, I have every intention of killing her." He had gotten so close to me, I could feel his hot breath on my nose. "Whether you like it, or not." He finished, punctuating every word as if to make an everlasting point.
"Trust me." I breathed, my voice pitching a notch. "I'll like it. Very, very, much."
Lucas stared down at me, his eyes flashing on my lips and darkening. My breath caught in my throat as he licked his lips. Whatever was about to happen, was going to be hot, and I, being me, would let it hit me like a tornado.
One minute we were staring at each other and the next Lucas hands were in my hair as he slammed his hot lips on mine. I moaned and slipped my arms around his neck, thrusting my fingers into his, oh so, wet hair.
Just as I pushed my tongue into his mouth the bathroom door opened and a very wet, very startled Rita yelped.
"Oh shit!"
I and Lucas tore apart, turning to look at Rita who had a towel around her chest, her eyes wide.
"Why can't you guys just use the door that leads to your room?"
Was I frustrated or what?
