Eve's POV (ℙ𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕕𝕒𝕪)
No.
There was no way in hell I was jealous. Maybe I couldn't define the emotions searing through me right now, but I knew it wasn't jealousy. It just couldn't be.
I walked into the sitting room, grabbing the enormous backpack that was slung over the coffee chair as I did.
"Where are they?" I heard Jay ask as I sauntered to the other side of the room. I dropped the bag on the bed-like couch that was close to the window and began unpacking its content.
"Hello?" Jay called, slapping his palms together to get my attention. "What exactly happened in there, Eve?"
I paused, then turned to him. "They should be out anytime now."
"And so you decide to answer my first question." Jay gritted before lifting from the couch he was seated on. Just when he began making his way towards Rita's room, her door flung open and Rita stepped out, with a shirtless Lucas trailing behind her.
"Why the hell were you guys taking so long?" Jay slithers, jaw clenching in suspicion.
"Nothing you should worry your pretty head about," Lucas answered and I turned around to stare at him. "Except Eve here says otherwise." He added with a smirk.
I dragged my eyes away from his and turned to Rita. "I need you to confirm that Laura's mother is still in position."
"She is still there-"
"I said confirm, Rita. Fucking do as I tell you." Rita stood frozen for a moment, almost as if she had every intention of defying my orders. Okay maybe I was a bit harsh, but I wasn't about to apologize.
"Rita-" Lucas began but was stopped by the crushing look Rita sent his way. She gave him a nod and went for her laptop on the dining table. My heart began to pound. Whatever they had shared back there had created a bond. A very strong one and the mere thought made my heart pound harder.
Rita got to her laptop, opened it and after a few clicks grunted, "She's there."
"Good," I snorted and brought out an RPG-7, dropping the shaped charged warhead next to the tube on the couch. "We will move on her in twenty minutes, so gear up." As I said this I dropped the bag on the ground, exposing the gargets on the couch.
Lucas walked up to the bed-like couch and examined the weapons. "Fuck." He cursed, picking up a Beretta M9 and a Glock 18. "You geared up for this didn't you?"
"What do you think?" I grunted and picked up the MP5k, a smoke grenade and a flashbang.
"Rita, can you even handle a gun?" Both I and Jay chuckled as Lucus asked this, he had no fucking idea. To prove our point Rita swaggered towards us and picked up the Bushmaster ACR, dismantled and assembled it in less than thirty seconds. Its massive head staring at Lucas dead in the eye.
"Is this proof enough for you?" She smirked and Lucas's hands went up in the air.
"Okay tiger, point proven. Now get that gun off my face." Rita chuckled and lowered the gun to the ground.
Turning to Jay I asked, "Can you cover for us?"
"Of course." He said and picked up the RPG-7. "I'll just stay back and babysit."
I attached the gargets to the belts on my hips, the black tights, singlets and jacket I wore helping to conceal the grenade and flashbang. Hooking the MP5K behind me, I looked up at a chestless Lucas.
"You have five minutes to get ready, Lucas. Except your ultimate plan is to move out for this operation half-naked."
Lucas replied with a sinister smirk, picked up his guns and went into his room. At least he was smart enough to keep shut.
Eight minutes later we were out of the suite and on our way to our waiting van. As we stepped out the elevator that led to the back door, my eyes spotted a figure going around a bend in the corridor. But that wasn't what caught my attention. It was the fact that the said figure was putting on the exact Grey suit our mystery man was adorned with when I saw him at the reception earlier today.
I was about to go after him when Lucas's voice stopped me. "Eve, it's this way."
I contemplated ignoring him but decided on the fact that the mission was way more important. I followed them to the van and within minutes we were already closing in on Laura's mother location.
Lucas sat across me, his fingers caressing the weapon in his hands, his fingers absently rubbing the base of the gun in a slow, circular motion. The action caused my mind to wander, the memory of his fingers doing that same thing to my soft mounds came flashing between my eyes and I groaned in frustration.
"Your head needs to be on the mission and not on whatever illicit thought that is flowing through your mind." I snapped and he flicked his piercing grey orbs at me.
"How did you know my thoughts were illicit, are you a mind reader?"
"I don't need a susayer to know that all you think about is sex." I bit back. What the fuck was even wrong with me? I had no idea why I had started this conversation in the first place.
"Sex huh?" Lucas groaned, his grey orbs darkening. Licking his lips, he began, "Maybe I'll let you into my thoughts sometime. You'd be surprised what you find in there."
I grimaced. "I don't want to know-'
"Don't worry princess," Lucas said, cutting me off. "I won't disappoint."
I opened my mouth to throw a saucy resort only to be shut completely off by Lucas as he suddenly moved with lightning speed and placed his lips on mine.
I stood completely still. Shock and pleasure vibrating through me.
"Finally, get all that tension out please," Rita sneered and Lucas's teeth grabbed my bottom lip, as if on cue. After a few more licks and sucks, I summoned all the strength I could mutter and pushed him off me.
He laid back and gave me a sexy smirk. "That sure did the trick."
As he said this I rolled my eyes before muttering, "That happened because I wanted it to, so come off your high horse, player." Without giving him a chance to respond, I turned to Rita. "Lay our action plan out for us, one more time."
Rita nodded and picked up her laptop. "You and Lucas will go in through the front door, while I follow behind with Jay covering us from the garden. We subdue her with the sedative and whisk her into the van. This should all be done in ten minutes."
"If she resists, I'll shoot her in the leg," Lucas grunted and I sent him a menacing glare.
"There will be no shooting unless absolutely necessary." I knew he was about to say something smart so I added. "Unless you were being shot at should you shoot."
"So you saying we carried these guns for nothing?" Lucas asked, his lips turning up in a sneer. He just doesn't give up.
"These guns are with us to scare the living daylight out of her, and for protection in case we meet unforeseen obstacles. But just shooting her before knowing if she is innocent or not is a no, no."
"Aye, aye, captain," Lucas growled, his eyes gleaming with mischief. I sent him a warning look. I didn't need an unstable, revenge filled Lucas spoiling this opportunity.
"We are here," The driver announced as the van pulled over at the corner of a lonely suburb street. Jay opened the large van door and we all filed out, safety off.
We began moving towards the dusty brown door of house 670. Jay hurried around us and took position behind the gardens at the opposite end of the house while I and Lucas moved up the porch to the door. I gave the sign to move in with my fingers, counting down to three and stepped back as Lucas gently knocked on the door, twice. We silently waited a few minutes to see if anyone would answer but no one did, not even a sound.
Suddenly, a ruffling sound began coming from within the house, it sounded like glass breaking. The moment I heard it, I took a step back, using my left leg, I kicked down the door with one hit. The door slammed against the opposite side of the wall and hung loosely by the side. I immediately rushed inside with Lucas and Rita on my hill.
The room was empty, dusty even. It looked like life hadn't been in there for a while. Using my hands, I gestured for Lucas to move into the room while Rita checked the bathroom. I began moving towards the kitchen only to be met by the approaching blow of a fist as it came for my face.
Reflex kicking in, I swerved to the left, narrowly missing the hit. Raising my gun I aimed for the direction the fist had come from and fired, a loud curse came from that corner just as a large man stumbled out and into the kitchen hallway, clutching his thighs with a gun in hand which he began firing. I pressed my back against the adjacent wall, missing the slug as it rang past me.
My ears caught the sound of movements coming from the kitchen before my eyes even noticed the men that were filtering in through the window. I turned just in time to also see more bodies panning into the sitting room too. Acting quickly, I pulled at my flashbang and flung it into the kitchen then threw the grenade into the sitting room.
Instantly, I bent over, pressing my hands against my ears and shutting off my eyes in the process. The device went off with a bang, blinding my attackers and rendering them useless from all angles.
I rose to my feet and made my way to the sitting room, it was obvious we just walked into a waiting trap. I had to find Rita as quickly as possible. Where the hell was Jay anyway? Wasn't he supposed to cover us?
I got into the sitting room which was filled with gas and smoke. As I began making for the door, a figure materialized from the shadows. I raised my gun and so did he, that was when I saw my assailant face and froze.
"Eve?" He drawled, then began to slowly wiggle his head from side to side. "Why am I not surprised?"
I lowered my gun and placed the back of my left palm on my temple. I was definitely coming down with a headache because this was just so fucked.
"Detective Rowan." I breathe.
What the heck was he doing here?
