Untold Story
Astrid’s Point of View
"She was a real pain in the neck, do you feel the same way towards her?”
“How can she be so annoying?”
“She enjoyed being the primary focus of attention in class. She didn't even have any friends as a result of her attitude!”
When I was a kid, those were the statements I overheard from my classmates during one of my classes. I was furious, and my rage served as fuel for my determination to show them that the way they saw me was entirely wrong. As a result, I consistently ranked at or near the top of my class and received what I desired.
But one day, when I saw Atasha with Leo, who happened to be my first love at the moment, everything changed. My heart broke when she was invited to his birthday celebration. Leo was the one who invited her, and he approached her without even noticing that I was also sitting beside my twin sister. Since then, everyone in the class teased Atasha about Leo’s feelings for her.
When I saw them kissing in the forest, even if Atasha said it was only an accident, that scene haunted me in my dreams.
"Am I not enough?" I said to myself and cried my heart out during those nights. The fact that Leo had started to like Atasha was a slap in my face.
Atasha was so stupid that it frustrated me to the core. For me, sharing the same face with her made my life far worse than miserable. It was at that moment that I began questioning the Moon Goddess's plan for me. I wished I was an only child... I wished Atasha was not my twin sister.
With that in mind, I made a decision to do better and be better against my twin sister. But she always got the attention of everyone, even though she did stupid things in class and even with Leo, which made me hate her more.
"Damn, what is happening?" I muttered to myself as I pulled my hair out of frustration.
With little effort, Atasha was getting the things that I badly wanted and was being compared to me, who worked hard for everything. I didn’t get the credit and the respect of my classmates, especially Leo’s!
The teachers and the older individuals in the Silver Moon pack were the only ones who complimented me, but I got sick and tired of hearing it from them.
"You are the pride of the Silver Moon Pack…”
These were the exact words they instilled in me, but as time went on, they stopped praising me. They simply got used to it—me doing great things—so they stopped saying nice things about me.
But for Atasha, one successful deed of hers would be praised so much. People didn’t see her as someone who was a goal achiever, but whenever she did something and it turned out to be good, she’d be surrounded by so many compliments. Her little accomplishments were noticed and praised, especially by our parents.
"You’re everyone’s favorite, doesn’t it, Atasha?" I uttered to myself, glancing at her from afar with her friends.
The following day, I went to the school library and decided to check out a few titles. Then I came upon a black book that I had noticed on the top of one of the shelves. It seemed so intriguing that I'd like to take a closer look. I leaped as high as I could and snatched it as soon as I got the chance.
“Got you…” I muttered and observed the book.
When I first opened the book, it was heavily caked in dust. It was a book that had the tales of the witches of the Witch Mountain written in it. I was taken aback. My eyes widened. I was about to open the book and read some of its pages when the door opened. I was surprised to see Atasha on the door frame.
"Astrid, let’s go and play around outside. The teacher will attend a meeting! There are no classes! Come on, let's go!” she exclaimed with delight.
But with a sigh and a shrug of my shoulders, I expressed my displeasure.
"I am sorry, Atasha, but I don't have time to mess around. We have an exam coming up,” I told her coldly, then I noticed her face was saddened by what I had said. I put on a fake smile for her. "Sorry, let's try again another time."
Her face lit up when she heard my last statement. She nodded her head, her eyes glistening before she closed the door and proceeded to play.
"You’re really annoying, Atasha…” I muttered, and I snatched up the black book and left. I tucked it away in my bag.
I went to a playground that was completely deserted and looked around to see whether anyone else was there. When I confirmed that no one was around, I took the book out of my bag and started reading it right away.
"What? So it is true that there are witches?" I mumbled to myself.
I doubt that what was stated in the book was accurate, but based on its content, it appeared that the werewolves had already begun negotiations with them and had been doing so for quite some time. What drew my attention was the fact that some werewolves had reached out to them in order to cast a spell of good fortune and wealth for them.
Others were using them to cast a spell on their enemies, cursing them with ill luck, misfortune, or, in the worst-case scenario, the inability to shift at all, ensuring that the werewolf would never find a mate.
When I returned home, I went to my room, which I shared with my sister Atasha, to change my clothes. I went into my corner and sat down at my study table. I locked the door first. I flipped through the pages and began scanning them.
"There are tunnels beneath the ground…" Those were the words that came to mind as I looked at a sketch of the underground tunnels that the witches had constructed to serve as a path for witches from the Witch Mountain to get to werewolf land. The underground tunnels were connected to each church in werewolf land.
My eyes narrowed as I contemplated. There was an abandoned church here in the territory of the Silver Moon pack. It made me smirk widely.
"So I have the chance to meet a witch… I am truly excited!" I exclaimed to myself, smiling from ear-to-ear.
I couldn't keep my emotions under control, still scanning the pages of the book I had on hand, until I heard a knock on the door, and it was Atasha who called me from the outside.
"What do we do now?" I wondered aloud.
"Astrid, do you want to go for a walk in the woods? Leo will be joining us with his friends!" she exclaimed, making my heart skip a beat as soon as I heard Leo’s name.
However, even though my soul craved his presence, I had more essential things to attend to.
"I apologize, Atasha, but I'm going to have to study!" I screamed so she could hear me.
"Alright, I will inform them that you are unavailable. By the way, don't forget that Leo's birthday will be celebrated this weekend!" she expressed herself before I heard her loud footsteps on the staircase, which meant that she had already left.
The thought of Leo's birthday this coming Saturday brought a sigh to my throat. I took a quick glance at the book, but my attention wandered, picturing the abandoned church here in our land. How could I find the underground tunnel from there?
I put the book down because it sparked an idea in my head that I needed to confirm.
"I think I've found the solution."
This could be my opportunity to prove to everyone in this place that they were mistaken about how they treated me in the past. If I was unable to get recognition and happiness, then no one else should either.
