Just a warning
Mariana
Ethan shifted on the mattress, looking for a more comfortable position, and I decided to sit up, reaching for a sheet that was nearby and used it to cover myself with, tossing another to him, which he didn't mind using.
I didn't want to stare at the completely perfect man in front of me, aesthetically speaking, so I covered him myself from the waist down, to which he laughed mockingly.
" I guess it's a little late for modesty, after all, there's nothing there that you haven't already seen."
I pretended not to hear his cynical words and continued with my story.
"So, as I was saying," I continued.
"The creep took you to dinner and then dropped you off at home, getting you to create a huge expectation of the good guy he wasn't." Ethan completes what I intended to say.
Of course, I wouldn't use the same words he used, but in the end, that's exactly what happened and I didn't deny it.
"We spent a week in constant contact, and when the next weekend came, Arthur invited me to go to a barbecue at some friends' house."
I swallowed drily as I remembered what happened on that occasion, and that was the reason I didn't like to tell anyone, such was the humiliation I went through that afternoon.
"Gisele was at that barbecue.
"Yes. She was there and saw that I was with Arthur, so she gathered her friends to surround me in the bathroom and... " it was so hard to tell!
"What happened, Mariana? I want you to tell me!" The Ethan who said that that's the same man I knew, demanding what he wants.
" They treated me very badly, laughed at me, at my clothes, at the fact that Arthur took me to meet his friends " Even with a lump in my throat, I tell what Ethan wants to know."
"What about Arthur? I would like to hear that he stood by you and took you away from this place, but I feel that is not what actually happened."
Ethan is a very perceptive man, and that quality should help him a lot, in the business world.
"I went to him, to tell him what happened and to ask him to leave, but he was nowhere to be found, and the owner of the party asked me to leave his house because I was not welcome there. I left, feeling terribly humiliated, and blocked him in every way."
"And you had no further contact, until the day of the restaurant," he suggested.
"I saw you the next day, walking around the mall with your wife.
Ethan lets out a loud cuss, and I'm not surprised at all, he doesn't seem like the type of person to control his words.
"I have to go," Ethan says, now surprising me.
He gets up from the mattress and begins to gather his clothes, putting them on in a hurry, while I watch him in silence, not understanding the reason for the sudden rush to leave.
But I wouldn't say anything, I would never ask him to stay the rest of the night with me, after all, it was just sex, no commitment, or any other promise, and I couldn't possibly confuse the issues.
Arthur
Saturday nights used to be the busiest at the nightclub I owned, and tonight would be no different, even more so when the main attraction was a singer who has been quite successful these days, with his music reaching a high place on the music platforms.
Even in my office inside the nightclub, I could still follow some of the movement of people in the place, through a glass wall that allows me to see the main dance floor and a little of the VIP area, but I needed to concentrate on analyzing some papers that were placed on my desk, so I turned my back to that view and focused on work.
Although I had hired a very competent team that could easily run the club without my presence, I liked to be present, because I always make it a point to closely follow all my investments, unlike some friends and partners I have.
Ethan Constantino is a good example of this because even though I convinced him to invest in the nightclub, as well as in other successful ventures, he never bothered to keep a close eye on how his money was doing, something that I thought was pretty silly.
Luckily for him, I am great at recognizing good business and his investments are always bearing fruit, after all, I would never risk the prestige I have achieved in this area, always taking care to ensure success in all sectors of my life.
But currently, I was not doing very well when it came to my personal life, everything seemed to be going wrong and it was impossible to do anything else when my thoughts started to wander as I remembered the latest events.
I arranged the papers on the desk, also turning off the computer, and leaned my body back in the comfortable executive chair.
But staring at the ceiling made me irritable, so I closed my eyes, trying to relax a little the tension that I felt stiffening in my shoulders.
It was not at all easy to accept that my wife had left me for another man, and her betrayal still bothered me as it did the first day I found out the real reason behind her request for divorce.
For this reason, an Argentinean businessman with whom Gisele had been having an affair for months without my suspecting anything, besides being twice my age, had three times my money and I believe that this was what weighed the most in her decision to choose him over our marriage.
Regret crept up inside me again, as I remembered what an idiot I was to have run back to Gisele when she saw me arrive at my friend's party with Mariana, and all she wanted was to use me to pressure her lover into taking action, which happened.
I had gone to the Seasons Hot Club with the sole purpose of drinking and having fun, all in an attempt to forget that my wife had filed for divorce because according to her, she was in love with another man.
"Were you cheating on me, Gisele? "I asked that day, really upset.
"No!" she denied, and it sounded so true! "I just fell in love, and not to act lightly, I'm opening my heart to you, Arthur.”
