HANGOVER
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
15. HANGOVER
A ringing tone sounded from afar and I groaned as someone’s hand hit my back. I opened my eyes to see Chloe half lying down on me and snoring.
Yesterday, after I managed to force some water down Chloe’s throat, Andrew came down to help me carry Chloe into the car. He wanted to drive us back but I refused because he was hurt and needed his rest. Tomorrow was a school day after all. His coach would have his head if he found out he got into a fight and is unable to practice.
He’d finally agreed, but then he’d shut the party down. Which was very sweet. He said the party was only an excuse to see me and if I left, then there was no need for it. He promised to call me the next day before I drove off.
I knew Chloe’s parents would kill her if they saw her like that, so I took her to my place instead. My parents often came home late, so I was not likely to be caught. I called her parents and told them we were working on a school project and Chloe had fallen asleep so she’d be sleeping over. They trusted me and so agreed easily.
I look at the phone and there were four missed calls from Andrew. But then my eye catches the time, and I’m already late.
Crap!
“Chloe, wake up!” I yell as she gets up and groans.
She was totally hangover.
“We are late.”
“Fuck” She cursed and winced. She was in bad shape from the fight and her head was probably ringing and pounding from all that alcohol she consumed. I’d managed to give her some Advil, take her make-up off, clean her wounds up and iced her face before bed but she was still not looking too good.
I take a quick shower as Chloe goes to throw up in the toilet.
We quickly dress up in our uniforms.
Well, only me. Chloe borrowed my cheer uniform.
I ran down the stairs with my make-up bag in one hand and Chloe’s hand in the second.
“Girls !” Mom calls after us, but I wasn’t going to stop to let her see our bruises or Chloe’s drunk ass.
“We are late, mom.” I yelled back as we ran out, heading to my car.
“We have dinner with the Castles at eight.” Mom says and I groan with the idea of having to sit at the same table with Kieran. I love Aunt Stella and Uncle Ryan but Kieran was just not it.
I don’t know where they got that kid from but he just didn’t take after their sweet souls. He didn’t take after them. He just took after them in looks. What happened to personality?
I guess I’d be coming home late today then. I’d blame it on a flat tire or traffic or something.
Kieran also wasn’t a fan of these dinners, so it was unlikely that he was also coming anyway.
“We are discussing your internet fiasco at dinner since you refused to come for breakfast.” Dad says from the living room and I groan, but I don’t intend to stand there and complain.
“Wait for me!” Kirk cries as he follows us outside.
“Sorry Kirky.” I rub his head and he swats my hands off.
We finally get to my car and throw ourselves inside, laughing at having escaped from mom and dad.
Chloe starts driving and I take out my make-up bag and stab dabbing concealer all over the bruises on her face.
“So we both literally got into fights. We both sure stood out then. Ha?” I laughed.
“You got into a fight?” She asks.
“With that asshat but Andrew came in between us.”
“Put this on Kirk.” I smiled at him sweetly and handed him a headset with his favorite kids' bop playing.
“Who? Mr. hot and broody Kieran Castles?” She asks as I finish her make-up and start mine.
“Well, yeah, Kieran. You actually think he’s hot?” I raised a brow at her as I dragged the mirror towards me and apply mascara.
“Girl, you’re not blind. We hate him, but we can admit that at least.”
I got a quick flash back of him pining me down in the sand with his body weight and another of him standing in my personal space in the kitchen, and i shook my head to clear the image of him touching me and so close to me.
“Well, he’s not that bad looking. His personality is very ugly though.” I shrugged.
“Not that bad looking?”
“Argh fine. He’s a hot asshole. Are you happy now?” That is as much as I’ll admit.
We reached Kieran’s spot and I went to inform the teacher on duty that Kieran was late because of me. He asked me not to apologize to him and let him go whilst other kids were standing and facing the wall.
Nora is part of them. I look over at Kirk but he just ignores her and goes inside. I sigh and go back out.
Kirk was definitely being favored in school. I just hope he was doing okay and it wasn’t getting to his head like it had gotten to mine.
I got back to the car and took the wheel from Chloe before we drove off. I wasn’t going to give her another second of her driving my car with a hangover.
“But why did Emily and Glenda attack me like banshees yesterday?” Chloe asks as we pull into my parking space in the parking lot.
“Well, Shit. You, like, actually don’t know?” I asked.
“No.” I assumed she was mad because of what happened during cheer practice, but then I get that feeling that it’s not.”
“Well, no shit Sherlock. It’s obviously not. You were making out with Emily’s boyfriend with no care in the world.”
“Shit. I probably drank too much.”
“When have you not?” I scoffed.
“No judging my choice of poison, babe. It’s totally not cool.” She frowns and we both get down.
I sigh.
“Well, who was it?”
“Chloe! You actually don’t know?” I yelled.
“Just tell me gahh!”
“It was Tyler Myers.”
“Well, why did you say Emily’s boyfriend then? I thought it was a different guy. He’s so not. He told me himself that they were just friends with benefits for last semester and non-exclusive, by the way. But she started catching feelings for him and told everyone they were dating.”
“What if he’s lying? That seems so like.. I don't know.... What every cheater says ?” I asked Chloe with concern.
“She was pretty mad or else she’d never have dared to attack you.”
“Well, I don’t care. I didn’t say I’d be committed to her. It’s Tyler who did. So he should bear responsibility, not me. If he comes on to me again. I’ll be fucking him, just to spite her ugly wanna-be queen ass.” She shrugs.
