I'M NOT STAYING TO FIND OUT
CHAPTER TWENTY
I'M NOT STAYING TO FIND OUT
I scoffed and turned my back on him, doing my signature hair flip, and I heard Kieran growl in warning as it nearly caught him in the face.
“What game are you playing at?” He spins me to face him with a scowl once we are outside. It’s his resting face at this point.
“Why would I need to play games with you?” I crossed my hands as I looked up at him, refusing to be intimidated by his height.
“Why did you get me out?” he gave me a scrutinizing look.
“Do I need a reason?” I arched a brow.
“Don’t think I’m going to thank you, baby girl. My lawyer was already on his way. If you’re doing it to ease your guilty conscience…..”
“Good. I was not doing it for you anyway. I’m not that selfless. It turns out that I do want to go to dinner after all. Why would I give you the opportunity to miss it either?” I cut him off, ignoring his annoyance
A black ford mustang car arrives and stops in front of us. Ryan Crest steps out of the car with our family lawyer, Mr. Cabeel. Yeah, we both had the same family lawyer.
Mr. Cabeel and his team handled our legal affairs. When I say ‘our’ I mean the Castles and the Waters.
Kieran started to walk towards them before pausing.
“You told them I was your boyfriend in there.”
“Don’t think too much about it. It was just convenient at the moment. I have no interest in you whatsoever.” I say quickly and my cheeks burned hot.
“Good.” He said before he walked away to meet Ryan.
I huff and headed towards my car, opening the door and slamming it shut. He could go to hell. I managed to hit the curb on my way out and my mood got worse tenfold.
* * *
I help mom set the table for dinner as she asks me about school. I kind of skipped the rest of the day because it was too late to attend my first three periods, so I only sat in the car park and then went for lunch when it was time. Apparently, the fight at the party was a hot topic and everyone was laughing at Emily. She was in a leg cast, hand and arm bandages, and her whole face was in a head cast.
I wouldn’t even show my face here if I were her, but if she did she might fall behind. We’d had previous issues of her receiving notices to improve on her academic work and sometimes she wasn’t allowed to keep being on the team because she needed to focus more on her studies.
People weren’t sympathizing with her. They were laughing at her because she tried to jump Chloe because Tyler was cheating on her with Chloe only for her to get her ass whooped and then not even be able to take a day off.
The next story was of me and ‘my loser boyfriend’, Andrew, who got totally whooped by Kieran. They said Andrew was completely destroyed at the party. Andrew was also the butt of jokes and i also got a few insults thrown my way.
“So what did you learn in school today?” Mom asked.
“Well, there’s something interesting. We learnt something in our history class today. Did you know make-up brushes were discovered to exist like way long ago? I’m talking about the B.C years mom. It’s totally crazy. I didn’t know.”
“Yeah, it was as far back as about a million and sixty-four thousand years ago. We are making our ad for the new brushes using that concept.”
“That’s so cool. Oh yeah. Mom.”
“Yeah Sweety?”
“Are you still planning on hiring the l’acrux girl?”
“Umm... Yeah, things are already in progress. Her parents called to postpone it because she had a test coming soon though. They wanted her to concentrate on her studies, so we moved it a week further.”
I snicker and mom’s hand go on her waist.
“I’m sorry mom, but they are lying to you. I heard she was doing drugs and she got too high and cut her own face. It’s scarred now. They are probably trying to stall you to see if they get a solution for her. It’s really bad too.”
“That’s too bad. They could have told us that or that she couldn’t make it. Why would they stall us and waste precious scheduled time? She could still have been given a role in the ad. There’s going to be a representation of the years in which make-up was used. She could have gotten a role. That would probably make her feel better whilst she’s coping.”
“Mom. I heard her bragging about how gullible you are to deceive in the washroom. It was absolutely disgusting. She has no respect for the company or the brand. She doesn’t even respect you. I didn’t want to cause a scene so I didn’t confront her.”
“Don’t worry. Thanks for telling me Sweety.” Mom says as she sets the food in the middle of the table.
We were having garlic and herb grilled rack of lamb.
I move beside her and put the plates in front of each chair, arranging the cutlery in their right order.
“Okay, fine. You know what mom?” I grinned at her.
“I’d do it for you. I’d replace her.”
“Are you sure?” You made a whole fuss when I asked you in the first place. You said you’d be going to Paris with Chloe to that new Japanese Restaurant. What’s the name again? Phozoz.”
“Mom... Don’t be too loud. Dad might hear us.” I shush with a laugh.
It’s Phoezo. It’s an Asian restaurant that is opening its first international branch in Paris. I know I said that at first but this is more important. The restaurant would still be there. I’d go later.” I shrug.
“Thanks Sweetie. I can take care of the rest. It’s past Kirk’s bed time. Go and tuck him in. He’s probably still up playing video games. I’m sure the Castles will be here any second.”
“Okay, mom.” I smiled and handed her the apron before heading towards the door only to find Kieran standing there and leaning against the doorframe. He was dressed in slacks and a black t-shirt that hugged his muscles well. His hair was not styled like he had just run his hands through them with a look of disgust. He probably heard me tell a whole fabricated lie about the L’acrux girl. What if he outed me right here?
I’m not staying to find out.
“Compulsive liar.” He whispers into my ear.
I shoulder past him but he doesn’t move an inch, making me squeeze past him so I’m uncomfortable. Jerk!
I hear him greet mom like an angel and mom eats his bullshit up. Telling him to visit more often. Like hell he will. In my own home? I huff. At least I knew he couldn’t stand me either and wouldn’t be coming around like mom wished. And now he not only couldn’t stand me, I repulsed him too.
I ball my hands into fists and dash into the nearest bathroom before throwing up my chicken burger that I had for lunch.
Was I disgusted with myself for having to lie to mom? Yes. A little part of me that I suppressed was.
But the way Kieran had judged me was the worst. He made me actually feel guilty and I hate it. He makes my guilty conscience eat at me like a starving worm and I hate that feeling.
I rinsed my face and go to Kirk’s room. He was sleeping in front of the gaming equipment. I carried him to bed and tucked him in before going to my room to change into a pastel pink knee-length body-con dress with low sandal heels.
