Chapter Thirty nine
I was up as early as five in the morning and by six thirty, I was seated in the car and on my way for the interview.
Considering that we left quite early, there was hardly any traffic and we got to Avilla Corp about thirty minutes later.
I was an hour early and I had no idea what I would be doing in there so I decided to stay back in the vehicle reading through some stuff on my phone.
Miguel and I conversed for a while and before I knew it, it was nearly 8am. I exhaled, feeling my nerves getting to me. I was not sure what to expect, I lowkey feared that what happened with my first interview would repeat itself and I did not want it.
"Wish me luck." I said to Miguel before stepping out of the vehicle.
I walked through the tinted glass doors and found myself in the exquisite building with a clean wide lobby. It was a skyscraper, just like Damien's and looked just as big and sophisticated.
I walked up to the reception to ask for directions to the exact place for the interview. She directed me politely and I smiled my thanks.
I found the elevator which was hardly filled because of how early it was. I was happy about that, cramped spaces had a way of making me totally uncomfortable.
I stopped at the 20th floor and went in search of a certain Mr Middleton. With the help of a few workers on that floor, I was able to find his office.
He interviewed me professionally though he was fully aware that I was married to Damien Kingston. The issue of my marital status had come up but unlike the last time it did not pose as a challenge. He asked questions that I had prepared for and I gave him adequate answers, I hoped. It gave me great relief that this interview turned out different from the last one.
The interview lasted for close to thirty minutes and he soon let me out with a promise to get back to me. I nodded and shook hands with him before leaving.
I exhaled as soon as I left the office. I truly hoped that I would be hired.
I soon found myself on the ground floor and was walking out the door when I saw a few men in black suits ushering Aiden in. He was definitely in boss mode because he had a poker face on.
I did not expect him to see me so I continued my walk but he soon stopped and stared at me.
"Trying to elude me, I see, Mrs Kingston." He teased and smirked. I laughed softly.
"Good morning Mr Smith." I said in the same tone.
"Good morning, done with your interview?" He inquired.
"Yes I am." I nodded as I spoke with a slight smile.
"All the best then." He said and I nodded appreciatively once again.
"Have a nice day." I said.
"Thanks. Have a nice day too." He said and then gave me a mischievous grin.
"And tell your husband that I'm going to punch him in the face soon, he knows why."
I chuckled amusedly. Aiden was such a kid, I wondered how he pulled off his boss look so effortlessly.
We said our goodbyes and I headed towards the white Cadillac parked across the street and slid in.
"Home, ma'am?" The driver asked me.
"Nah, lets head to Starbucks, I need me some cappuccinno." I responded cheerily.
"Alright ma'am." He said with a nod and started the engine.
"Supongo que sue entrevista salió bien." Miguel said.(I assume your interview went well.) I nodded enthusiastically.
"Lo hizo." I said (It did.)
He smiled at me. I smiled back.
"Espero conseguir el trabajo." I said nervously cause I still was not sure of my fate. (I hope I get the job.)
"Estoy seguro de que lo haras." He assured me. (I'm sure you will.)
I gave him grateful smile and turned to the window, watching the buildings go by quickly as we sped on the asphalt concrete road.

I sashayed into the Starbucks shop and immediately regretted coming here as all eyes fell on me. This was Los Angeles and a lot of people were either celebrities or overly rich around here so I somehow felt kind of intimidated. This was Hollywood after all.
I looked ahead and headed to the counter to order. I wanted to take it with me immediately but considering the queue, I would have to wait for a while. Someone took my order and gave me a number tally, I took a seat at a table in the middle of the room which literally made me the center of attention.
I looked up at Miguel who had followed me in, standing at the door side, watching me. I beckoned for him to come over and he did.
"Miguel solo siéntate conmigo." I requested. (Miguel just sit with me.)
He sat without delay.
"Me siento tan incómodo." I muttered under my breath.(I feel so uncomfortable.)
"No dejes que sus miradas te afecten."He advised. (Don't let their stares get to you.)
I nodded and breathed shakily. I hated the attention.
Just then, a lady walked up to us and Miguel switched into bodyguard mode. He blocked her and asked her reason for coming so close to me.
"Uh I just want say hi." She said to Miguel and tilted her head in my direction.
"Miguel, la deja." I said to him (Miguel, let her.)
He turned to me with an 'are you sure?' look. I subtly nodded.
The slim brunnette came through and smiled at me.
"Can I sit?" She had a squeaky small voice. It sounded forced but what did I know?
"Sure." I said. Miguel handed me my coffee and excused us.
"I'm Bianca. You're Damien Kingston's wife, yes?" She asked.
"I'm Ariana." I corrected. I found it upsetting that I was tagged as Damien's wife like I did not have an identity of my own.
"Right. I saw you walk in, I must say you're really pretty." She stated with a tone I did not find convincing.
"Thank you." I replied still.
"Would you like some coffee? My treat." I offered.
"No thanks." She declined.
"I just wanted to say that your wedding was really beautiful," she continued her statement, still eyeing me slowly while I acted like I did not notice.
"Thank you." I said with a half smile.
"I really don't understand why Damien would want to get married out of the blue though." She said like she had a right over his life or something.
"And why would you say that?" I asked calmly as I sipped on my cappuccino.
"Oh, we used to be an item." She informed a little cockily.
Aha! There it was, the main reason why she had come to sit with me in the first place.
"Oh is that so? So, why did you guys break up?" I asked, feigning interest in whatever she had to say.
"He got so busy with his work, he did not have time for me, so I broke up with him." She stated watching my reaction closely.
"Oh that's sad." I said mockingly. Since I was in the mood to be petty, I pushed my ring finger forward and subtly flashed it in her direction by flipping my hair backwards. Her eyes shifted over to it and I saw her stare longingly for a second.
"Men tend to discard their flings so easily because even sex cannot make them fall in love with you." I said sardonically . I watched as her nose flared in annoyance and I inwardly chuckled in satisfaction.
"What's that supposed to mean?!" Her sweet tone had disappeared into thin air. Fake people!
"Oh are you offended? I did not mean to upset you." I said in a mocking apologetic tone, then I got serious.
"Now, if you know what's good for you, don't ever try this stunt you just pulled with any married woman, you might not like what would happen to your botox face afterwards." I warned sternly. She gasped at my last comment.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do than moving around looking for something to gossip about, you should get a job though. Have a nice day." I concluded with a tight lipped smile, got up and walked out of there leaving the silly girl dumbfounded.
I walked out with Miguel trailing behind me. He pulled the car door open for me the moment we got outside.
"Well done, she got what she deserved." Miguel commented and I laughed.
I did not think I had it in me to say such to someone, but she was really dumb coming up to me to give off the 'I had him before you' energy. I could bet on my favorite pair of shoes that Damien would not remember who she was and she was probably a one night stand claiming to have been an item with him just to spite me. I knew fully well that Damien did not do relationships and whatever she claimed they had was obviously one sided. Some girls were just really silly. I knew she was sizing me up and she wanted something to talk about so badly so I gave it to her.
Crazy people.
