Chapter Fifty one
I ironed out the creases on my blush pink body con corporate dress with puffy sleeves. The makeup artist had come and gone after giving me a bold look with a cat eye, matte lipstick and pale pink eye shadow. I loved it. My hair was straightened out and my edges were finely laid.
Yes, we were heading for an interview to clear the air concerning the chaos that had been going on since two days ago. The PR team came and brushed us-specifically me- through about how to answer questions thrown at us.
Damien had told me about the interview while we were in bed the other night. I was relieved when he slept without any nightmares haunting him. Last night, I slept in his room, it was almost like it was a routine to choose between our rooms every night. It was cute and I smiled whenever I thought about it. We were sort of making progress after all.
Aiden gave me a few days off so everything could die down and I was so grateful. I could not imagine myself leaving for work anytime soon.
I picked up my bag and pulled my door open only to see that Damien was just doing same, looking amazing in his blue suit that complimented my outfit really well.
He stretched his palm out and I slid mine into his without a word.
The ride was silent but this time it was not exactly as awkward as it usually was whenever we rode together, it was comfortable silence.
We soon arrived at the studio for the talk show hosted by Eva Turner. I was such a fan of Eva and if anyone told me I would be on her show not just as a spectator but a guest to be interviewed, I would have laughed in their faces but here I was.
Damien helped me out of the car while Eva's assistant ushered us in, through the back door and brought us to the green room. We watched from the green room as she handled the various segments of the show gracefully until it was time to let us unto the stage.
We stood near the last step before getting on stage and I watched her live. She looked so much more beautiful in the flesh.
She had her hair styled in a shoulder length bob, she was dressed in a stylish obviously customized designer multicolored pant suit with stilletoes and her makeup was on point as always.
Nervousness soon set in and and I started shaking.
"Hey." Damien said softly and I looked up at him.
"Relax, you'll do great." He said and I nodded with a small smile. I hoped I would actually do great and not blow this up.
"Now ladies and gentlemen. It's about time we met our guests, these two have been making some waves around the media and happen to be one of the cutest couples I've ever seen. Now, ladies don't scream too hard when you see this dude, he's taken now." I laughed just as the rest of the audience did.
"And the lady? She's so hot, I think her husband will have to hide her away from the men over here and I'm not even joking." Eva said with funny facial expressions that had even Damien chuckling a little bit. She truly was a pro at this.
"Now enough with the descriptions, I'll let you meet them for yourselves. Ladies and gentlemen, join me as I welcome on stage Mr and Mrs Damien Kingston!" She yelled to the crowd.
The roars and applauds were deafening and went up a notch as we climbed the stage. Damien and I waved with smiles on our faces as we walked over to our host.
He gave Eva a side hug while she hugged me properly. I almost screamed.
Eva Turner hugged me! Oh my gosh! Pinch me, I'm dreaming!
We soon had our seats and dived straight into conversation.
"So hi guys, welcome to the show!" Eva said to us.
"Hello Eva." Damien said in his usual drool worthy voice and I heard a lot of girls in the audience sigh dreamily. We all burst out laughing at that.
"Hi Ariana, how are you?" Eva turned to me with a grin.
"I'm very well, how are you?" I said with a smile.
"I'm good, thank you." She said back.
"So that reaction, do you get that a lot when you're with Damien? You know the stares and all?" She asked me while she slightly adjusted on her seat.
"A lot. But I just have to admit, my husband is one fine man." I said eyeing Damien sultrily while I did. The crowd cooed when he held my hand after what I said. It was the truth though, I could not deny his looks and could not blame the ladies for drooling over him.
"Over to you Damien, I heard from a little birdie that you are working on a massive project in Italy. Do you mind telling us about it?" She faced him now.
"Of course. I have been working-and in your words-on a massive hotel and resort project in Italy and I've pretty much spent most of my time over there within the last few months." He responded smoothly while she nodded.
"And how do you think Ariana felt about you being away so often just shortly into your marriage?" She questioned. That got my attention and I stared up at him, waiting for him to speak.
"I think I'll let her answer that." He threw the question to me. He stared down at me for a few seconds before leaning back on the couch with one arm placed behind my head.
I turned to Eva to answer the question.
"In all honesty, I was really upset about it at first but then I had to understand that this is the man I married and things like this would happen even when I don't want them to, also he calls all the time so I'm good." I answered with a big fat lie and Eva nodded.
"That's really beautiful." She commented.
"Thank you." Damien and I chorused.
"So where did you two meet and what attracted you to each other? Damien you go first."
"I met her in New York at one of my restaurants over there and the first thing that attracted me to her were her eyes and smile. They're so beautiful, I cannot take my eyes off them." He gushed, looking so sincere while he said so. I blushed.
"Awwwww." Everyone in the room chorused including Eva who was wiping fake tears, dramatically. I giggled shyly.
"Ariana it's your turn." Eva said to me. I sighed.
"His eyes were the first thing that drew me to him and they have me hooked." I said without thinking. Damien's eyes met mine briefly after I spoke. I was being honest but I was sure he thought it was all part of the act.
"How sweet! How long did you two date before deciding to tie the knot?" Another question came.
"Six months." Damien and I said at the same time, just as we had practiced. The crowd lightly applauded us.
"We all know that Damien Kingston is a business mogul, so let's talk about you Ariana, do you work?" Eva asked me.
"Yes, I work as a financial analyst in a prestigious corporation here in Los Angeles." I said confidently. The audience gave a slight applause just as Eva nodded in acknowledgement.
"Do you work with your husband?" She probed.
I did not understand why that question had to be asked but I responded anyway.
"No I don't." I shook my head slightly.
"Why not?" She probed further.
"No comment." I discarded the question because I knew it would go deeper and could eventually cause a controversy later. The media was always out for loopholes after all.
"Alright. Now, I'm sure you two are fully aware of the rumours that have been speculated concerning your marriage within the last few days, do you have anything to say about it?" This was Damien's cue, just as we practiced, so I turned to him.
"Yes, within the last few days, I have seen the most bizarre of things speculated about my wife and I and I want to debunk those rumours right here and now." He said steadily. He was sitting up now and had his arm around my waist while I looked up at him as he spoke.
"My wife and I are legally and happily married and there is no such thing as us being fake or our marriage being a sham. This woman here means a lot to me and I would not accept anyone slandering my wife's name. She did not rope me into a marriage with her, she stole my heart and it's all hers to keep." He held my right hand with his as he spoke passionately.
I looked up at the screen watching some ladies get emotional all because of his effusive speech. I was speechless. If only all of that was real, it would have been really cute and romantic but it was not.
"Babeeee." I made an exaggerated pouty face to emphasize how 'loved' I felt then I drew him closer and kissed him full on the lips. He kissed back, making the crowd go wild with all their hoots and whistling.
"You two are just the cutest! Aren't they the cutest?!" She hollered to her audience and they agreed with even more hollering.
Damien and I grinned at them.
"I just have to say, everything about your wedding was absolutely beautiful, I was there and I loved every bit of it." Eva said to us.
"Thank you so much." I said with a polite grin while Damien nodded appreciatively.
"Thank you for coming on the show, we hope to hear and see more from you two."
"Thanks for having us." Damien said.
We were shaking hands with her when she said;
"I'm rooting for twins by the way." She winked and I laughed.
"Sure thing Eva." Damien gave an exaggerated eye roll. One I had never seen him do and it had me laughing even harder. He had been on the show before and was surely very familiar with Eva.
"One more time, let's hear it for Mr and Mrs Damien Kingston." Eva said to the crowd as we walked away from her.
We soon exited the stage waving at the crowd that kept cheering us on even after we were no where in sight.
"Well, that's it for today. Tune in next week for another episode of JUICE with Eva." I heard her conclude the show.
Eva soon came to us and we had small talk before saying our goodbyes.
Phew! At least that was done and over with.
