Chapter Sixty three
Ariana's POV;
"Shit." I heard him cuss under his breath as the camera flashes kept coming. He signalled for his guards to come closer and then he instructed that they put a call through to one of the drivers to come get us.
Damien had already pulled me to his side and had my face down. When one of his guards came and told us that we had a car ready for us, he pulled me up and got us outside.
The flashes increased as we stepped out of the cafe and headed towards the vehicle.
I slid in quickly and he followed me while a guard shut the door behind us.
I shook my head.
"This is just crazy. It's almost like someone tips them off whenever we're around." I said aloud.
"You think?" He raised his eyebrows amusedly.
"So I'm right after all? You celebs go through a lot." I said with an exaggerated tired sigh.
"You're a celeb too you know." He said and I turned to him.
"That's because I'm married to you, nothing else makes me a celebrity." I pointed out.
"Don't think about it like that." He said gently.
"It's the truth Damien." I said conclusively.
We stayed in comfortable silence after, till we got back to the house.
We walked in unconsciously holding hands while we did. He pulled me with him into his room and led me to the balcony saying that we had to finish our conversation which was interrupted by the paparazzi. I agreed because I had nothing else to do anyway and especially because I thought it was sweet of him to want to spend his day off with me, that is, if he was not doing it as a PR stunt though.
I sat next to him on the bed in a lotus position.
"So you want to tell me about yourself?" I asked him.
"Are we done talking about you?" He said taking off his jacket, flexing his biceps while at it. I did my best to keep my eyes trained on his handsome face instead of his sizzling hot body and lucky for me, it worked.
"What else do you want to know?" I asked.
"Everything." He said in a 'duh' tone. I rolled my eyes.
"How about we play twenty one questions?" I suggested and he seemed to contemplate on the idea before giving a shrug eventually.
"Alright, you go first." I said.
"How about you ask first, I've never done something like this." He said, turning pink around the ears.
I gasped because this was a major first. Just earlier, he had laughed heartily, something I had not witnessed before now.
"Is the almighty Damien Kingston embarrassed because he can't play a game everyone knows about?'' I mocked him playfully and he chuckled deeply.
"Don't push it wifey, I sure know how to have my revenge on you." He said smirking slightly.
"I'm scared." I faked a shudder and laughed loudly.
"Okay fine, seriously though, you've never played twenty one questions?" I inquired.
"Nope." He said, popping the 'p'.
"I'll teach you on one condition." I said.
"Shoot."
"You'll have to answer all my questions honestly." I said.
"Deal?" I probed when he seemed to be taking forever to reply.
"Deal." He shook my hand firmly. I went ahead to explain the rules of the game very briefly before starting it
"So, what's the wildest thing you've ever done?" I asked placing my elbows on my knees with my chin propped on my palms as I tilted my head to listen.
"Are you sure you're ready for this? You might want to skip this question, Ariana." He said with a mischievous smirk on his face and that just piqued my curiousity even further. I nodded eagerly but I really shouldn't have.
"Aiden and I attended this crazy party when we were younger and were just trying to set up our businesses. It was a college party and we ended up participating in an orgy, I used a lot more condoms than I've ever used with anyone after that." He said without even batting an eyelid while my cheeks burned in vicarious embarrassment.
"I was not expecting that." I said and cleared my throat awkwardly and he passed me a glass of water. I gulped it down quickly.
"Thank you, I needed that." I said, not able to look him in the eye. He chuckled.
"I'll ask now." He said and I nodded.
"Three items on your bucket list." He said, laying down on the bed with his arms behind his head.
"Uhmm okay. Travel to the Maldives for a vacay, ride a yacht and..." I said and thought about my last item for a while before speaking.
"Fall in love." I said softly and swallowed. We were quiet for a while but I broke the silence with my own question.
"Who's your celebrity crush?" I asked him.
"I don't have any, people crush on me instead." He said arrogantly. I rolled my eyes.
"Cocky." I muttered, sure that he heard me. He chuckled deeply.
"Green doesn't look so good on you." He said with a lopsided grin. I scoffed.
"Don't push it man, I could never be jealous of you cause I'm way hotter." I said, flipping my hair backwards for emphasis.
He snorted.
"Yeah whatever you say." He said disbelievingly and I scoffed even more.
"We should take a picture together and ask people who the hotter one is between us." I said jokingly.
"Oh we should, cause I would love to laugh in your face when the ladies keep commenting in my favor." He said with a confident smirk but then I knew he was right so I did not push it. The female population would definitely take the win because a lot of them were crazy about him.
"You win this time." I conceded dramatically.
"You're incredibly beautiful though." He said with a flirty smile and I blushed in spite of myself.
"Thank you." I said biting on my lower lip shyly while he nodded slightly.
"What's your biggest fear?" He asked and I thought for a while.
"Achieving so much and not being able to find love at the end of the day." I swallowed. Why were my thoughts all about love?
"Why would you think you would never find love?" He asked me but I just had to evade the question so as not to trigger an intense conversation.
"Hey! It's my turn to ask a question." I said hurriedly. He did an eye roll.
"Fine. Ask away." He gestured with his hand.
"Who in your family are you closest to?" I asked and he kept quiet.
"No one." He stated plainly after some time.
"Why is that?" I prodded gently.
"It's my turn to ask, Ariana." He reminded.
"No, don't try to change the topic." I said, immediately catching on.
"I didn't force you to speak when you evaded the topic." He stated.
Touché.
"You're right. I apologize." I conceded with a nod.
"Your idea of a perfect date?" He asked.
"Ooooo now this is a good one." I grinned widely as I spoke then I stood up to illustrate.
"So here's what I want, I'm typically a simple person but if I want a date, I'd love to bask in nature. I'd like some activity, not just sit and talk all evening. Then great food, that just has to be the highlight of everything." I rambled, then I thought about something and snapped my fingers in his direction as he watched my every move like a hawk.
"Aha! The amusement park. That's just so much fun, with all the rides and junk food with picture booths and all that, it's just the best!" I cut my tirade short when I saw him sitting up.
"That's all you want for a date? No fancy restaurants? Rooftop dinners? Nothing?" He asked continuously looking like he was trying to hold in his surprise.
"Nah, fancy dinners mean that I have to dress fancy, put on my makeup and just eat overpriced meals that would not fill me." I frowned at the thought of going through a meal in a fancy restaurant and going hungry after all of it. Not me, please.
"Wow." He said and leaned back on the head rest and watched me as I climbed back into the bed. I crawled up to sit next to him. I was still in my crawling position when the door came open.
"Oops sorry I was in such a hurry, I forgot to knock." Mom said as she walked in looking so classy and beautiful in her bejeweled royal purple dress. This woman was such a stunner.
"I hope I wasn't interrupting anything." She said with her eyes darting between Damien and I. I looked at my position before abruptly sitting, he held my waist quickly as I sat.
"Not at all. Hi Mom." I said quickly.
"Hi darling." She said, giving me a quick kiss on the forehead.
"Very quickly. I have been asked to invite you two for a wedding." She handed the invitation card over to Damien and quickly exited the room, saying she was tired and she needed to rest.
I took the beautiful black and gold embroidered card and opened it. I gasped in pleasant surprise.
It was for Eleanor and Reginald's wedding party. It was finally here.
Remember them from the charity event Damien and I attended and eventually had a huge fall out after? Good. They were finally tying the knot and I could not miss it.
"Damien we have to go, I promised Eleanor I would attend." I practically pleaded like a kid who needed candy.
"Fine fine, we're going." He said with an eye roll.
"I can't wait!" I clapped in delight while he chuckled amusedly.
