Calculated Rage
London
I stepped into the dark space that I called my office and let out a low growl. The guards were fucking responsible for that wretched woman being on my territory. If they had just taken their jobs seriously!
I was going to cut down on their upkeep money for this and teach them a lesson so that next time, they wouldn't dare make a room for an enemy to pass through.
My steps thudded on the wooden floor as I made my way to my desk. I loved the dark themed office, and what made it better was the fact that I never opened the curtains. A dim red bulb illuminated the room with a dull glow, which was exactly how my heart looked.
The dark brown mahogany table reflected the light on its polished surface. Files were neatly arranged on the left side of the table; my laptop stayed shut and was placed in the middle; a pendulum clock stood beside it. A large dark chocolate book shelf stood by the rear left of the room, and a black chair lay beside a glass table that had a notepad and pen lying on it.
I made a beeline for the little bar that existed in a corner of the room with the intention of pouring myself a glass of whisky despite my hangover. I needed to calm my rage, or else I risked doing something unreasonable. With a calm and collected demeanor, I poured myself a glass of the dark orange liquid, holding it with my left hand and my right hand stuffed in my pocket.
I fought the urge to smash my glass on the floor. I needed an outlet for my anger. I took a gulp of the hot liquid, relishing the needed burn my throat experienced as it went down.
"Control yourself, London." Fuyu spoke.
"It looks like you're taking this mate news very well, or have you been pretending right from the beginning and acting like you never wanted one?" I scoffed at him with anger while he rolled his eyes at me with a low growl.
"It irks me more than it does you, believe me. Her stupid wolf tried to reach out to me. The nerve of that omega. But then again, you have to keep your cool. You and I know very well how much I detest the subject of mate and mate bond. I'd rather drown in hell than have one."
I chuckled, feeling Fuyu's silent rage. I could feel him wanting to come out earlier when we were with the damned woman. I once again pitied her because if I had let Fuyu emerge, she would have been missing a limb, an eye, or possibly dead. And here he was telling me about control and keeping my cool. He was the last person I was expecting to lecture me.
"Like you're one to talk." I took a gulp from the glass, ignoring the headache that assaulted me. "You were close to killing her; I actually did her a favor by leaving before you took over and ripped her head off her neck." I chuckled darkly, and he huffed, but we both knew I was right.
"Killing her would have been a quicker end, compared to you, who's ready to break her apart emotionally and psychologically. Besides, I never said anything about killing her; I only thought of it for a second."
"I believe you." I rolled my eyes at him.
"Besides, don't tell me you actually care what happens to her." He said it with a wolfish smirk that made me grip the glass so hard that it shattered upon hearing his statement.
Care? Her? Not even in my next lifetime.
"Fuyu… don't fuck with me. I don't care what happens to her, but in the same case, I don't want her dead. I want her as far away from me as possible. There's a difference, and just like you, I'd rather drown than have a mate."
I blinked at the shards of glass on the floor lying in the pool of whisky and clicked my tongue dryly, "Look what you made me do, now you stupid wolf."
I picked up another fancy glass from the many others lined up in front of me on the shelf and poured myself a quantity of whisky to my satisfaction. Such incidents were not unlikely for me; in fact, I feared I'd run out of glasses at this rate.
But who cares? I am fucking rich.
I heard a knock on my door, and I took a side-glance at the door, gently stirring the drink in my hands. I took a gulp, pouring myself another glass.
"Come in!" I rasped.
The door opened to reveal Reece in dark blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and a green checkered flannel. His black hair was pulled into a ponytail, and his amber eyes glowed in the dimly lit room.
"My king." He said this as he bowed his head in respect. He eyed the mess on the floor but said nothing. He knew better than to talk when he wasn't asked any questions.
Cane bowed beside him, his baggy black sweatpants grazing the floor. His upper body was clad in black briefs. I could tell he was coming from the training sessions. He probably had to cut training short upon hearing I wanted to see him. His red hair blended with the light in the room. "My Alpha..." his hoarse voice came.
I hummed, my eyes reverting to the glass in my hand. I was livid, but upon gazing up at my blank expression, one would be unaware.
"The mating ceremony yesterday..." I said it slowly, choosing to begin what I had to say with that to get a reaction out of them because I knew they knew. If I, the Alpha, could be in the know, my beta and gamma would be no less, and if they weren't, then I would actually be disappointed in them.
Cane stiffened upon hearing me, while Reece looked away. I chuckled, downing the liquid in the glass in one go. They had nothing to say, and it was better that way because one wrong word or sh*t and hell might run free. My bloody palm dripped on the floor, and Cane stared at it, questions in his eyes.
"Oh, don't act like that. If you guys can be aware of it and turn a blind eye to it, so can I—I'm the Alpha for a reason." I swatted the air, waving off their reaction at the mess on the floor with my bloody right palm.
"But that's not why you're here today. I kept quiet on the condition that one single threat would make everyone feel my fury for disobeying me." I turned to face them with lazily blinking eyes.
"And you know what that means, right?"
Their heads snapped up, seriousness spreading wrinkles on their foreheads. The knowing look on their faces was priceless as they stared at me.
"Cane, you're in charge of training the guards and warriors, and you're also tasked with rotating pack surveillance duties, no?" I shot a brow up at him, and he nodded.
"Good. I need the guards on duty yesterday to be assembled on the training grounds now!" My eyes glinted red, indicating Fuyu's annoyance.
"Yes, My king. Is that all?" He asked with his head hung low.
"Yes." I watched him bow again before exiting, leaving me alone with Reece.
He stared at me before proceeding to ask, "I'm guessing you need me to assemble the pack members." His observant nature has always been something that made me like him. His ability to read situations and make judgments based on them was impressive.
"Indeed. But don't forget that you and Cane are still getting punished." I never forgave incompetence. Everyone had let their guards down, and that enabled that woman to sneak into my space. That was highly unforgivable. "Also, I need you to do a little something for me."
He inhaled sharply. Reece was always my man for a mission. He was excellent at masking his presence, swift, highly perceptive, and smart. While Cane was almost on par with him, Cane had a penchant for brute force, as his wolf, Kaizen, was a ripper, making him perfect for the position of Gamma.
"I need you to run a background check on someone for me. I want every single piece of information that you can scrape up."
His eyes glinted deviously. "Of course, my king, give me a name, and it shall be done."
I smirked, the corners of my lips tilting up to bring my canines to light. "Blaire White."
He nodded in understanding and waited for his permit to leave.
"Do get me a maid to clean up this mess on your way out." I said, dismissing him with a wave of my left hand.
