Big bad Alpha
London:
Fuyu's heavy breaths mingled with the soft sway of the branches dancing to the wind and the ruffles of the shrubs as he stood before the giant black gate that protected the tall, brown, aging building. A strange magical presence radiated from the gate and around the building.
"Since when did the council need a magical barrier?" I sneered with a brow tipped at the highly ridiculous occurrence.
Fuyu's no-nonsense snarl showed he was currently thinking the same. His sharp eyes carefully inspected the surroundings, and his ears were alert for the slightest suspicious movement. He stole a side glance at the tall building with an arched left brow and snarled, his eyes lowering as he processed his analysis.
He raised his head again and gently sniffed the air. His brows furrowed as he swallowed dangerously. No one was outside, and the silence was almost too...
"Something's not right." Fuyu said it hesitantly.
It was a rare sight to see Fuyu so hesitant, and that also put me on edge because, inasmuch as my senses weren't as sharp as Fuyu's, I still had extremely heightened senses, and all of them were pointing for us to abort this mission.
"I can feel it too, Fuyu."
Fuyu groaned a little, doubling over as a sharp ringing resonated in his ears, making his head twitch. He placed his hands on his head, grabbing onto it with his face contorted in torture. His hands clasped over his ears as his gritted teeth ground loudly.
"What the fuck is that?" I yelled with my consciousness, reacting in the same manner.
You see, our merged form was a product of half of myself and half of Fuyu. It was usually the second form of manifesting that most wolves were not opportune to have. Lycans wielded this opportunity, but the power and abilities varied according to ranks.
Fuyu and I had a complicated form. In this form, the energy that held us together was generated from my soul, and it powered Fuyu's abilities. So basically, all I contributed to this was my soul's energy and consciousness, while Fuyu was the rest.
Fuyu can contribute his soul, but it is risky because his soul would burn out fast. It was a weakness that we kept hurried within us. His soul energy tends to burn out fast, which is why his full form wasn't something he used all the time and why materializing was dangerous on both our paths. Most times, for Fuyu to materialize, it would eat both our souls energy, but this caused his own soul to burn a bit faster.
Now, my soul energy is currently weak due to my lack of sleep, and I don't have much strength either because this form not only tires my mental energy but my physical energy as well. We couldn't perform to the fullest this form had to offer because we were both shorthanded because of me.
What's the summary of my explanation? Whatever Fuyu feels in this form or when materialized, I do too. So right now, it was worse than hell for me, even because I was currently the weaker one, and whatever was currently happening was draining me of my spiritual energy. If this didn't stop anytime soon, I might thin out, and that would be very bad.
"What's going on, Fuyu?" I yelled with a painted groan. Blood was trailing down my nose, and I knew it was the same for him.
"London, this is very bad. There's a wolf manipulator here, and he's trying to rip me out of you. It's a fucking ambush. Damn those bloody motherfuckers!" Fuyu rasped tiredly.
Rip him out of me. In this fucking form? That would be very horrible, because imagine it licking your skin and getting ripped out of your body. It was like getting skinned alive.
"Do something!" I fell on one knee, feeling cramped in the white space my mind resided in.
Fuyu sank on his left knee, clawing at his head to fight off whatever signals that sharp ringing was sending to him. His heavy and strained breaths scared me because dark red blood trailed down his red eyes, and a grisly growl echoed. His canines bared, veins growing on his face and spreading all over his body.
His head reared up, and a terrifying growl shook the ground as he clawed at himself. His pain was doubling because he was trying to reject the signals and fight back. He looked monstrous.
I could feel his tiredness, and it troubled me. He wasn't going to last long if this continued, but I couldn't do anything to help because my energy was being sucked with a straw. It felt like my head was going to explode.
"I'm going to kill that slimy genius once I get my hands on him!" He barked in pain.
My head twitched as my ears perked up at a certain faint voice.
"Reject him… Listen to my voice. He doesn't deserve you." It floated through my ear like a serenading whisper.
"I will not!" Fuyu screamed out.
"I'm going to try something different right now." He panted.
Knowing Fuyu and that very tone he had just used meant something unorthodox, absolutely crazy, risky, and unconventional was going through his thick creative head, and I was not going to like it.
"Fuyu, what's on your mind?"
He sniffled. "He's trying to wrap our minds, and for him to do that, he has to be somewhere very close to have this much effect."
That I knew.
"So?"
"I know your spiritual energy is what powers this form, but at this rate, you'd fade out quicker before I'm ripped from you."
I knew it; I was definitely not liking where this was going.
"Fuyu…" I drawled in warning.
"You know I'm full of reckless and terrible ideas. It's who I am." He smirked, despite the blood trailing down both his nostrils.
"Are you crazy? You're going to fucking die. This has a ninety percent chance of backfiring." I said in between a dark chuckle.
"Relax; I'm not going to die so easily. At least not till I get my hands on all of them shitheads." He brusquely replied. "If they want to fight dirty, I'd become their biggest nightmare."
He wanted to fuse his soul energy with mine, and in that moment when our energy was at its peak, he'd direct it at the whisperer like a bomb, and it would blow his consciousness. What he planned on doing could be perceived as blowing off his consciousness, but it had every chance of going awry and backfiring on us.
I should probably refuse, but right now we needed to take a gamble, and I wasn't going to lose him so easily. We stuck together through thick and thin, and that has been our greatest feat.
I could hear my uneven breaths as things suddenly felt like they were going in slow motion. I reached out to him, "do it, Fuyu."
Fuyu nodded in understanding, the sharp ringing making him cough out blood. The veins were beginning to appear and reappear. This was going to require a lot of energy, and that was something that we didn't have.
"Trust me," Fuyu whispered to me.
"Do I have a choice, you dog?" My lips curled up at the obvious tease.
He hated being referred to as a dog, which was funny because wolves were related to dogs.
I closed my eyes, trying to focus on all the energy I could give him, and I could feel him doing so as well. The shivers that shook me as a result of the sudden cold I felt made me chuckle lightly. It wasn't just any cold; it was a sign that my spirit was weak and going to fade very soon.
"If this goes wrong, I'm going to kill you."
He scoffed, "Good luck with that."
He groaned as he coughed up more blood. Blood trailed down both our noses as we conjured up all the energy we could.
"Release it at the same time I do. We have to be in sync." Fuyu said.
"Roger that, Wolfie." I replied.
I felt him shiver at the amount of energy he was giving off. It was a huge strain on him, but he managed to get up, swaying a little. The impact was heavy, and so was the force trying to tear him away from me. He was trying to make him submit.
He staggered with heavy breaths, his chest rising and falling heavily as blood trickled down his nose, falling to the floor in droplets.
I was getting increasingly worried. "Fuyu, that's enough; you're expending too much energy. Fall back; you can seriously get injured, so fuck this plan and freaking back."
Fuyu's eyes scoured the area; his head was spinning, but his senses still stood alert. He closed his eyes, focusing on the strength of the voice.
"Submit to me, great white wolf. Reject the Alpha." The voice whispered as the ringing intensified.
The pain in my head grew worse, and Fuyu wheezed while trying to inch closer to the barrier. It was crazy, but that was what Fuyu was. He was the most stubborn creature to ever grace the earth, and he was a part of me. I had breaks I couldn't cross, but Fuyu didn't; he could destroy himself to destroy the enemy.
"Fuyu!" I gritted, agitated by his stubbornness.
Blood trickled down his eyes, and his ashen brows knitted angrily as a vicious look remained on his face. I could feel the energy flowing out of both of us, and it was making my head dizzy.
He stood before the gate, the barrier repelling him. He stretched his hands forward, digging his fingers into the electrifying barrier, enduring the shocks. With a toughened face, he ground his teeth, pouring energy into breaking the barrier.
"London, I need physical support."
I sighed; he really wasn't going to pay my words of concern any heed. He did whatever he set his mind to, especially when it came to being a protector and keeping his reputation high.
On rare occasions, I did what I was about to do, but I couldn't let Fuyu do it alone. I pushed forward, my steel gray eye dominating our left eye, making the red belong only in the right eye.
With both our energies fast dwindling, we poured in our strength, hearing the barrier begin to crack.
"Submit..." the voice rang again.
With teeth clenched tightly, he lowered his head, muscles bulging despite the veins that were growing on our body like a parasite. His feet moved forward as the barrier cracked even more.
"How's your energy input coming up, London?" He screamed, his hearing growing hazy.
"What do you think?" I screamed back.
I hoped I wasn't turning deaf because his voice was growing distant.
I knew what he was doing to the barrier; he was using his own energy to overwhelm that which kept the barrier standing.
"Submit, great white!" The whispering voice came again.
He knew Fuyu was a great white wolf, but what he didn't know was that Fuyu was a direct descendant of Amahan Iduth, also known as Luna, the mother of werewolves.
Making him submit without proper ritual, in which a wolf whisperer will try to talk him into submission, would only kill him. And if his attempt to force Fuyu into submission fails, his life will automatically belong to Fuyu.
I didn't know how, but Fuyu had told me once, and he never visited the topic again.
"You fucking wish. I am Fuyu, and so help me, Luna; I do not submit to any-fucking-one, asshole!" He growled, pushing forward.
The barrier cracked, and Fuyu staggered back, barely able to breathe. He grinned manically as he caught sight of a shadow perched on the roof of the building.
"Gotcha, fucker."
"When did you figure out that the barrier was camouflage?" I asked, barely able to breathe.
"When I couldn't smell them nor hear their fucking heartbeats." Fuyu growled.
"And the energy?" I asked in between breaths.
"Let the asshole have it." Fuyu said, not sparing the fleeing shadow another glance.
Clinging onto the connection, which was yet to fade, we both sent the large ball of energy, and I fell to the floor feeling relieved yet empty once it left my body.
In the distance, we heard a loud shriek, and I smirked. I really would have loved to feed my eyes on his tortured expression, but Fuyu and I had a council to visit. Someone needed to give answers to what had just happened, no?
But I did have one question to ask: "Fuyu, when you said that a failed attempt at making you submit would make their life automatically submit, what did you mean?"
While trudging forward, his low voice hoarsely said, "His soul is mine to feed on."
"You can do that?" I did not expect to hear that.
"Yes, but it's not of my making. He forcefully established a soul bond with me, and what do you think? Without the ritual, what he did was a give-or-take. For the connection to be broken, something had to be taken, so it was either me or him. Idiot should have known." His low rumble came.
Standing before the big black mahogany door that kept us away from a meeting with the council, Fuyu pushed the door open, hearing it creak open.
Three men clad in expensive suits that sat by a large round table immediately stood to their feet, their fear flooding the large room.
"M-my king." They stuttered in disbelief.
"Hello, Council." Fuyu let out a menacing growl, his aura exploding to engulf the room, bringing them forcefully to their feet.
He took a maniacal step into the room, and trembling shivers echoed, feeding Fuyu's bloodlust.
"Hope I'm not…" His eyes fell on the oddly familiar book that sat on the table before reverting his gaze to fall on the gray-haired man that stood nearest. "I hope I'm not infringing." His canines lay bare with a dangerous glint flashing through his eyes.
