Feral Eyes.
London:
In the midst of the deafening silence that embraced me and the anger that now slowly boiled to the surface, I could hear the thumps of my heart as I sat quietly with criss-crossed legs, my hands resting on my thighs, and my eyes closed.
There was a certain anger that claimed me, eating deep into my system and rising with an uproar, and its intensity was something I couldn't explain. It was a different kind of anger, and it flowed around me and Fuyu as well.
Fuyu was as quiet as a thief, sneaking around in the night while heading down the path that led to the packhouse. His ragged breaths echoed in my head, his anger seeping through my veins.
“He can do whatever he wants with her for all I care… I have nothing to concern myself with here…”
It annoyed me deeply how much the words echoed in my head, and a foreign feeling faintly lurked in the corners of my mind—regret.
I growled, banging my fist on the floor I was sitting on in frustration. I didn't want to be feeling like this towards her, so then why was I thinking about her with a freaking ache in my heart?
Fuyu's low-pitched, menacing growl indicated that my actions had actually affected him. I sighed, my eyes twitching, because trying to meditate was a secret technique that I used to gather my thoughts and calm myself down.
I let her go… but for the first time in my life, I felt the need to defend and justify my actions because my conscience couldn't stop pricking me with guilt. Her condition haunted my head, and nagging thoughts that blamed me for it drove me to the brink of insanity.
“You're uneasy," Fuyu said.
I sighed, ditching the idea of meditation because it wasn't working. “I'm not uneasy.”
Fuyu hummed, disbelief staining the air. “I can hear your thoughts and taste your emotions. I can smell the unrest growing inside, and let me tell you that I have a pungent smell.”
I clicked my tongue dryly, looking away because I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of being right.
A minute of silence dominated before Fuyu growled threateningly, adrenaline flowing through his veins and mixing with his anger to create a deadly aura. His bloodlust was a thousand times more intense, and so was the energy that flowed inside him like a current driving a dangerous storm.
As the sound of men and women screaming, crashes and thuds, growls and whimpers, and cries of pain and agony echoed with a thunderous voice, Fuyu closed his eyes, pausing abruptly as a certain calmness encircled him, a gentle breeze accompanying it, bringing to him the faint whisper that was speaking to him, saying things to him that I couldn't quite grasp.
“Well, whatever it is that's bothering you, it's time to collect your thoughts, London, because... he's here. He's waiting for us.” Fuyu's tone was dangerously low.
I looked up, seeing the packhouse right in front of us. Upon hearing Fuyu make reference to the bastard, it filled me with an incessant need to drive my hand straight through his heart and slowly torture him, cutting him from the inside while watching his agonised expression as death awaited him.
The thought of him daring to touch my woman… I needed to nab the audacity that made him touch my children. I wanted to remind him that he made me a personal enemy when he dared play with her. I was the only one allowed to toy with her, and when compared to him, my intentions always brought her knees buckling and her back arching into the bed as I brought her multiple orgasms.
“I want to hurt that bastard.”
Fuyu tilted his head as he watched a guard jump in to save a little child from a giant, ferocious-looking wolf. His eyes darkened. “Who doesn't?"
There was something about Fuyu’s reply that made me halt my train of thought. Fuyu was fighting an entity that has existed since the beginning of ages. I could feel his worry, as somewhere in the back of his mind existed a thought that compared his abilities to Hayes’.
He was choosing to quiet his thoughts and wear his brazenness. I could sense his resolve to fight him head-on, even if it cost him his life. A resolve that made my blood run cold because I couldn't imagine losing him. But then again, thinking deeper, the chances of both of us dying were at higher odds, and I found it more digestible than the thought of losing him.
“He's not alone. He's got an army of rouges aiding his attack.” I said.
“About twenty remaining.” Fuyu responded, “I can sense more on their way.”
“The front formation?” I asked.
Fuyu looked to be in thought before saying, after a deep sigh, “They're standing their ground but quite injured.”
I nodded in response, trying to think up a plan. Walking into that battlefield recklessly would be what Hayes would be playing at.
“What do you think?” I asked him.
He was silent for a second, his eyes gently gliding through the trees and buildings, the black veins on his body growing and pulsating. His ears perked up, picking up on the slightest sound. I could tell he was thinking about something, trying to consider possible options.
“What are you doing?” I asked him.
“Trying to find Miller. Knowing him, he's protecting Mathias, and Hayes might go after Mathias, seeing as he's my shot at figuring out his plans.” He stated.
I understood everything he had said, and I could see the odds of him being right were very high.
“Can you locate him?” I asked, looking into the ruins that were fast-growing.
I saw a beast pounce on a guard, biting into his neck while he tried to claw his way to freedom. The sight agitated me, fueling the anger that was becoming hard to stomach.
I barely had time to accommodate my thoughts because Fuyu dashed off, taking a turn through a curve of trees that led to a small outlet that led to an underground base. I had built it as a safety unit for my pack members, in case a dangerous situation ever arose.
And witnessing how ugly things were becoming, I knew Cane would be evacuating people to the base, and there was every possibility that Miller and Mathias would be there, but in what condition? That was what I wasn't so certain about.
Fuyu carefully slid down the ridge, landing on the floor effortlessly. He quietly took a look around, his eyes carefully taking in the surroundings and his ears listening for any foreign sounds.
He picked up the sound of multiple, rapid footsteps coming from underneath him and hummed.
“People are down there.” I stated.
“Which means that Hayes is coming.” He immediately sniffed the air; an aura of decay was sitting in the atmosphere.
The sound of fierce footsteps echoing in the forest made Fuyu growl threateningly. They were coming.
“He's found us…” I growled.
“He's tracking Mathias. The bastard is using his link with Mathias to track him, and he is well aware that I'll be on the ground to keep him safe.” Fuyu slowly said.
My eyes narrowed at him, wondering why the underlying tone existed, and he only did that when there was something he was choosing to keep to himself.
We heard a howl followed by feral eyes glancing down at us. They growled at us, their frenzied eyes and bare teeth eager to be sank into. Fuyu growled back at them, taking on a battle stance.
His feet dug deeper into the ground, his nails were fully extended, and his body expanded a little more, making me stare at him worriedly. The veins on his hands pulsated even more, liquid moving like slithering snakes through them. His eyes were a dark red, and his teeth were enlarging even more.
A weird silence grew, and a puzzling sensation made goosebumps grow on my skin. I could feel him around, and it honestly made me want to hurt him while a little part of me harboured fear.
“Give me the boy, Fuyu.” A voice whispered.
Fuyu, who's head was lowered, gritted his teeth because I knew the stance he was taking was taking a lot of energy from him.
“Fuyu, you know you can't keep this up for long enough.” I was worried about my wolf because he could be very obstinate and reckless.
“Well, it's long enough for me to deal them a great amount of damage.” The corner of his lips tilted up menacingly, his thirst for blood giving him a crazed appearance.
Seeing him like that fueled my desire to agree with him because, knowing Fuyu, he was about to go on a rampage. He was going to rain hell on them, and I was going to enjoy the killing frenzy.
“Hurt them.” I smirked at him.
“Over my dead body, Hayes.” Fuyu rasped.
“Why do you want to protect him so badly?" His gritty voice came.
“Why do you want him so badly? You seem so eager to have him back.” Fuyu retorted.
“I do not want to fight you… not right now at least. I'll just have the boy and disappear.” Hayes said, his voice gradually fading away.
Fuyu chuckled. “You and what Army?” He looked towards the trees and, with a tilted brow, said, “Them?”
“You'll see soon enough.” His fading voice echoed in my head.
A big black, rugged-looking wolf stepped to the frontline; his eyes glowed a dangerous red, and a scar ran from his forehead down to his cheek. He growled at Fuyu, declaring war, and Fuyu smiled, his eyes glowing darkly.
He growled ferociously at him before howling.
“Kill those bloody bastards. Kill them all.”
The wolf jumped down, his nails extending, while Fuyu narrowed his darkened eyes “with pleasure.”
