Gestoni’s stony face even transformed into a more formidable presence. His eyes narrow into a menacing glare at his daughter who stood there in front, seeming too fearless and too proud for her own sake.
“And why is that?” he asked, controlling his anger by gulping down the remaining liquid on his glass.
“I just don’t want to,” Devon answered coolly but in reality, her knees could break off with her thigh bones at any moment.
“Not because you don’t want to divorce Daemon?!” his voice thundered across his vast home study.
“What?” Devon exclaimed by his absurd insinuation “Why do you have to always associate men in my life as they’re the sole reasons for my decisions? I am my own person. I don’t want to marry Joffrey because he is a stinking old man who is old enough to be my grandfather. He can fuck his own self and then dig his own grave afterwards!”
Gestoni stood up abruptly and threw the glass on the wall in anger. “Shut your mouth, young lady!”
Devon flinched at the sound of the glass breaking but she held her ground. She doesn’t quite understand but there’s a pent-up anger deep inside her for this man that needed a release. “I am not young anymore! I am of legal age. And I won’t shut up. I’ve had enough of you and this whole fucked up shenanigan. This is my life. I will decide how to live it.”
His face grew even redder as he rounded up his table to face her, his voice raised up sending shivers down her spine but she refused to be paralyzed by it.
“Then why did you come home? You could have stayed wherever you are and then rot there for the rest of your life, you ungrateful child!”
“Why did I come home?” she repeated his question while looking at his face, the face of a man of cruelty. “Simply because I want to know my family, which is a big mistake on my part because now… I’m ashamed to even call this my family, especially you. It’s embarrassing to carry your name much less than be your daughter.”
She left his office in a hurry and passed her mother who seemed to get frozen in her place as he heard his once meek daughter go on a shouting spree with her own father.
“Devon, why can’t you be a good daughter to your father?” Melena followed her back to her room. “Please, my daughter, marry Joffrey this time. This is the only way to earn your father’s love and to turn his favors to you.”
She sat on the bed ignoring what she said. It’s been more than a week since she began living here but she can’t see any proof that her mother misses her. They didn’t hang out. No dinner together. They never talked except when she would ask her if she had decided.
“Can I ask you a question? Did you really miss me while I was away or were you relieved instead?”
Melena’s mouth gaped open dumbfounded by what she heard. “Devon, what are you saying? I am your mother! Of course I missed you so much. I told you already that I was the only one in our family who didn’t believe that you really died.”
“Did you search for me? You stopped, right?” Devon continued. Why did she feel the familiar feeling of being constantly abandoned by this woman?
“Yes, but-”
“And now you wanted me to do a very disgusting thing against my will to earn my father’s love? Are you sick? Did you lose your mind perhaps?”
A resounding slap echoed in the whole living room of the Farrows.
“You don’t talk to me that way!” Melena yelled at her face, trembling in anger and insult. “You don’t disrespect your mother who raised you up!”
“Wow!” she grinned and touched the part of her face which hurts the most. “But you know what’s interesting? I haven’t even felt a bit of pain. Is it because I don’t even have feelings of ties with you, who is supposed to be my mother?”
After that, Melena silently and slowly left her room without saying another word. Devon collapsed on the floor and buried her face on her knees and let her tears flow.
She missed Daemon so much. She decided to go back to Daemon. She wanted to be by his side and this time, she won’t ever let go.
She didn’t know how many hours she’d fallen asleep. She would have stayed in her soft bed if only she’s not bothered by the feeling of being watched by someone. That roused her and the nibbling sensation of danger.

That nasty old cracking voice coming from the sitting man on the couch immediately made her stand up from the bed.
“Who are you?” She stepped back on the wall and picked up the lamp shade for protection.
“Did you forget about me? You have no right to forget the only man you deserve, my princess.”
The man stood up revealing his old wrinkly face into the light.
“Joffrey…” she whispered when he remembered the disgusting man from her memory.
What is he doing here in my room?

Fear crept into her system when he began walking towards her, his golden set of teeth came into display as he grinned at her.
“Don’t come near me! Stay there!”
“Oh what can you do princess? Threaten me with your lovely hands?” he continued getting nearer as she began to panic deep inside. The man is big and tall. She can’t survive if he starts grappling her to do what those lustful eyes wanted.
“I said stay there or else I’m going to shout!” she warned him.
To Devon’s shock, Joffrey began opening the fly on his jeans. Her eyes widened and her knees began to crumble in fear.
“What are you doing you lewd man! Get out! Mom! Dad! Help me!” she shrieked hoping that someone would hear her.
“You’re just wasting your sensual voice by shouting like that. They won’t hear you. And even if they do hear you screaming, they will not disturb us. They will only think you’re screaming in pleasure.”
