Chapter Five
Chapter Five
Alex woke up the next morning feeling better than he was the previous night, He took his bath got dressed, and headed down to the office in high spirit. He spent half of his morning catching up on the works he has in the office and by 10 am he called Susan and told her to get Mr. Norway on the phone. She called and was told the old man was unavailable but he dropped a message that Alex should meet him in his house.
Alex has been to his house before so getting there didn't take much stress. He didn't take anyone along with him. On arrival at Norway's mansion, he felt his tension rise for no reason. He had never been one to be nervous because of a business deal.
"Alex, come man what's there to be nervous about this is not the first deal you are handling stop acting like a newbie in the game" he scolded himself out loud.
While he waited for the security at the gate to open for him, he quickly went through the file to make sure he had everything he needed.
"Good morning sir," the security man greeted once he entered the compound.
"Good morning," he replied waving at the guy who he remembered as Robert.
"The boss is waiting for you in his office."
"Okay, thanks," Alex said and headed towards the big mansion.
When he entered the mansion, he saw one of the housemaids who less him to the office and knocked announcing his arrival.
Alex entered the office and his whole body became rigid, he became angry immediately. Sitting in the office with Norway was his greatest enemy, his one-time best friend, and business partner. The one person who he trusted with his life, who had stabbed him in the back.
"Alex, Steven called with fake excitement, good to see you here man, I didn't know you got your hands on this deal too."
Alex didn't even bother to acknowledge his presence as he greeted Norway.
" Sir you wanted to see me," he said to the old man
"Yes, Alex I did."
"I got told you made some changes in the deal so what are the new requirements?"
Alex asked going straight to business he didn't have the time, not the emotional strength to prolong the issue.
"Yeah, I was waiting for you to get here before I start." The old man replied.
"As I know the both of you are busy men, I will go straight to the point. You may not know this but I have a daughter."
He said looking at the both of them. When none of them responded he continued.
"My daughter Noni, is about the same age as you guys she will be a year or two younger. And she is the main reason you both are you. As whoever marries her takes over my business. As badly as I want to save my company from going down I don't want it totally out of my family so that's the added deal. Whoever gets her gets the company."
He said finally ending what he was saying.
Alex didn't know how to respond, marriage? That's what he wanted so he wants to marry off his probably spoilt daughter and also get money from him, the corny old man.
Alex looked at Steven who seems not to have a problem with what the old man has said as he was smiling and nodding his head in agreement. He wasn't surprised.
"Norway, as much as I want to get this deal I am afraid I can't meet this requirement of yours so if you would excuse me,"
Alex said getting up from his sit shocking both himself, Steven, and Norway.
Backing off from a deal had never been his thing, but he has never been told to get married for a business merge either. Of all the things he had thought Norway would ask for it never crossed his mind that an arranged marriage would be the requirement. He didn't even know Norway had a daughter. She must not leave in the country. Maybe that's why he didn't know her. Alex looked around the old man's office and there were no pictures of a young female in the office just him, his wife, and his sons.
"Alex is it not too early to back off this deal, or are you scared that you wouldn't be able to win the girl over and you will lose the deal to me?" Steven questioned bring Alex out of his thoughts
Alex laughed at looked at him with fierce eyes.
"Do you think I am scared of you? You? Really?" Alex asked and Steven smiled.
Alex had to try so hard to prevent himself from punching him in the face, the snake.
"Alex, I think you should give my offer a chance, meet my daughter and get to know her before you decide to back off completely," the old man said.
"I will give the both of you some time to think about what I just said," Hé added.
"No need for time Norway, if I can meet your daughter, today nothing is stopping me I am up for any conditions you have if it is marriage then let's do it," Steven said.
"If you say so Steven I will set up a date within the week for the meetup."
"Alex, I will give you more tins to think about it please don't rush into deciding to drop the deal." He said to Alex as if pleading with him.
He wanted to say no immediately but he didn't. Like the old man said. He should not rush to decide though he knew marriage wasn't it for him he would go back and with the tome giving to him he would think up a way to get the company without having to be married to the old man's privileged daughter he was sure she was a spoilt brat who never worked a day in her life maybe now that her dad's business is going down she had somehow convinced her daughter to include her in the sales of the company to secure a financially stable man so that she wouldn't have to work. He hated kids of rich parents.
"Alex, give it a thought before you decide," the old man said again.
Alex nodded and exited the office without another word.
Getting into his car he drove straight to the office in a sour mood.
