16. Don't be carried away by his beauty

Vera's point of view:

After packing a few of my clothes, I headed to my friend's house. Nina was slightly shocked to see me with my bag full of clothes.

“Vera, what happened?" She asked. Her face beamed in confusion.

“It's such a long story Nina," I replied and slumped on the couch. “I'm going to stay here for some time until I get a new apartment. I ain't going back to my old apartment."

“Vera!"

I abruptly got startled with the way her voice suddenly turned high. She stood in front of me staring directly into my eyes.

“Vera what have you done?" She asked with a serious countenance, her eyes not leaving mine.

“What?" I'm muddled.

“Are you running from your debtors, what sin have you committed?" She asked with yet a serious tone.

I laughed out loud. She thought I left my apartment because I'm running from debtors. Well, I can't blame her for thinking that way. What other reasons could make me leave my apartment to come stay in hers.

“Vera, answer me!" She squeaks.

“Relax Nina, I don't owe anyone a dime. I'm your friend, you are supposed to know me well enough that I hate borrowing."

“Yeah I know. Just that I was surprised. You called me saying that you are coming to my house but I never thought you would come with your bags to stay. Okay, now tell me, what's the matter? Why did you leave your apartment to come stay in mine because I know your rent is not yet due?" She asked anxiously.

I sighed. I don't even know where I will start from. Is it the fact that I stupidly made a deal with a man I know nothing about because I wanted to go with a boyfriend to my grandma's birthday party so I won't be bullied by my sisters or the fact that the man has made things more difficult for me by tricking me into signing a document that will tie me down with him for months.

I stare at Nina, not knowing what to say. Her eyes are burning with curiosity.

Nina is the only friend I have. I met her back in highschool; she always fought for me because I was constantly bullied back in those days.

She knows about my mother and my sisters and how badly they treat me. She doesn't like them at all.

I don't keep a secret from Nina but I kept the fake boyfriend stuff a secret from her. Now, I don't know how to tell her about it.

Nina has always tried to make me stand up against my sisters' bullies but I'm too weak to fight my sisters.

I didn't tell Nina about the fake boyfriend stuff because she will never be in support of it. Rather, she would want me to go there and boldly stand up against my sisters. Going to the party with a boyfriend didn't change anything, what I should have done was not going at all.

“Wait…." Her eyes were scrutinizing my body and finally they rested in my eyes. Nina is one person that likes staring into the eye of someone she's speaking with and that's only when she's comfortable with the person or not shy speaking with the person. “You changed Vera, when did you start dressing this way?"

I smiled sheepishly. Nina knew about my frumpish dressing, she always speaks about it. She has severally tried to change my dressing style but I wouldn't let her because I always thought that I won't look good if I dress in another style other than the one I'm used to. I only agreed to dress the way Mr Green eyes want because I don't want my three friends back at the mansion to be punished by him. I thought I would change to my usual dressing style once I leave the mansion but Mr Green eyes is not ready to let me go. Thank God that I'm finally out of that mansion at last and I will start dressing in my usual style.

“Something is not right Vera. You left your apartment to come stay with me and that's not all, you are dressing expensively. I have never seen you dressed this way. The Vera I know loves her crazy old fashioned dressing which did a good justice in hiding her beauty but right now, you are so different. I'm sure this simple dress you are putting on will cost a lot of money. Tell me Vera, what happened?" she added.

“Nina, I told you it's a long story," I mumble. I don't even know how to tell her about the stupid deal I made with Mr Green eyes and how he's not letting me go. He tricked me into signing a document that has literally changed my life but thank goodness, that strange woman came and dragged me out of the mansion.

“Make the long story short," Nina broke into my thoughts.

“My throat is dry, get me some juice. I will tell you once I drink the juice." I'm trying to distract Nina's mind from the question she asked but I know who my friend is, she will definitely get answers to her questions no matter what. Is not that I don't want to tell Nina what happened but I don't know how I can tell her that I made a stupid deal with a man I know nothing about and now I'm stuck in that deal with no going back.

“I will get you a juice but don't think you will run away from the question I asked you," she said before walking to the kitchen. This is just a small apartment so the kitchen is some foot away from the living room.

The moment she left the living room to the kitchen, a knock came through the door. “I will go get it," I said, moving towards the door.

I clicked the door knob and flipped the door open. My eyeballs nearly fell off their sockets when they landed on Mr Green eyes, who's standing on the doorway with a dirty smirk on his lips.

“Mr Green eyes!" I called in shock. I quickly rub my eyes with the back of my palm, I want to be sure that I'm not dreaming. Despite rubbing my eyes multiple times, Mr Green eyes was still standing tall in front of me. I thought seeing him was an illusion but it wasn't. How did Mr Green eyes find me here?

Oh! Goodness, how can I forget that I can't run away from this man. A man that said he knows everything about me, that means he will surely find me no matter where I try to run to. I was so stupid to think that he won't find me if I come to my friend's house.

How can I escape from this man if I can't hide from him? If I hide, he will surely find me. What have I gotten myself into? I was happy thinking that I've finally left the mansion but it looks like I'm still going back there.

“Little bunny, do you think you can escape from me?" His voice is husky as ever but not hiding the sexiness in it.

“You don't need to be shocked to see me here because no matter where you try to run to, I will always find you. Come on, let's go," he tried dragging me by my wrist but I jerked my hand off.

“I'm not going with you, I was thrown out of the mansion by some crazy lady, it looks like she doesn't like me and doesn't want me in the mansion. I ain't going back there again," I protested, standing akimbo with my hands on my hips. I heard him chuckle. Gosh! He's so handsome!

'You are stupid Vera, how can you think about that in a situation like this?' I scolded myself.

“Vera who's that?" Nina hollers as she dragged her feet from the kitchen towards me.

She smiled shyly the moment her eyes fell on Mr Green eyes. She whispered into my eyes, “Who's this handsome man?"

“He's a man I'm trying to run away from," I whispered back.

She stared muddled at me. “You are hiding from this handsome man?"

“Don't be carried away by his beauty. Your friend is in a great trouble," I mutter.

“Little bunny, get your bag let's go. Remember our deal and the punishment if you break it," he has a roguish smile on his lips.

I bite my lips. This man has tied me down, how will I ever escape from him?
