"Ughhh" i groaned as i hit the snooze button on my alarm i hate mornings. But i have work.
Why do i have to work why cant i just be born rich you know. First I'm born without my permission and now i have to work to feed and clothe myself thats bullshit if you ask me.
I Groan loudly as i get out of bed, i mistakenly hit the book I've been reading to the ground when i see it a mild shiver passes through me. I ignore it and i pick the book up and place it back on the nightstand.
I was not ready to accept the fact that I may or may not be into the kind of stuff that was done to the main female character in that book. I grab my phone and make my way to the bathroom selecting the song MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT by Elley Duhe before stepping into the shower.
There's just something about this particular song that i find extremely hot her voice, the lyrics, the beat ughhhh like i said earlier Hot!.
After my shower, I get dressed and made my way to the kitchen moving with haste because i was almost late for work and this may or may not be my 2nd strike. My boss would skin me alive.
"Okaayy..phone check...keys also check uhm what else?!" I did a 360 making a mental note to make sure I didn't leave anything behind. Fully satisfied and sure i didn't leave anything, I stepped out and locked my door.
"Taxi! Oh thank goodness" Hi good morning" I got in and gave him the address to my work place while glancing at my phone for the time 7:39 it read "okay Imaani no need to panic you can still make it in time"
"Hi sorry can you step on it please, I'm gonna be late for work...Thank you" the driver tried making small talk with me but all my mind went to was the text i received last night which i had not yet replied to because i slept off before i could which is a lie.
The truth is i started overthinking when i was typing and felt like maybe he made a mistake so i decided to hold on a little to see if he says anything again but he didn't or hasn't...till now.
"We're here" the driver Announces pulling me out of my haze, i pay and get down making my way into the building i look up as usual and sigh before i enter inside " i hate my job but i need the money" i thought to myself grabbing my phone and checking the time again. Just in time.
"Hey Imaani" James my colleague greeted while i settled down into my, office i won't really call it an office. More like a secluded space for each person but whatever
Strange. He never greets me just a few awkward glances "Hi James" i replied cordially, at first i thought it was cause he doesn't like black people thats why he stares like that ....turns out he might just be naturally weird or have a staring problem. I think to myself as i watch him walk of after that not-so-strange greeting.
My day goes by in a blur and i still have a shit ton of work to do. Looking at the time i already missed lunch, i take a short break and go to the cafe beside us. Walking in i place my order and go to take a seat. Taking my phone out to watch tiktok videos i remember i had still not replied his message so i do.
"Hey sorry for the late replies I've been busy" Send

"But sure here's my number" send
"Order for Imaani?!" The barista calls out and i go get my food
"Thank you" i pay for the food and make my way out
My phone buzzes "thats fast" cleaning my fingers i pick it up thinking he had already replied me only to see it was a tiktok notification.
My heart sinks "oh well" finishing my food i get up and make my way to the trash disposing the bag into it
The walk back to work is filled with overthinking as usual. My mum swiftly came to my mind but i shoved that thought back immediately "cant have something ruining my day more" i get in and sit down on my seat.
"Hey Imaani" A voice called from behind me
"What is it and all these white people greeting me today? Do i have something on me?" My eyes went wide at that thought "have i had something on me all day?!!"
I face her "Do i have something on me?" I blurt out
"What? She looks confused "no you don't why'd you ask?"
Chuckles awkwardly " Oh no it's nothing, Hi how may i help you?"
"Oh no it's nothing serious i wanted to say congratulations on your piece i read it and it was really beautiful and also on my way here Mr Dean requested your presence"
The boss?! What did i do wrong?!
"Oh thank youu...uh..."
"Sarah" she said
"Sarah thank you very much i appreciate, uhm, did Mr Dean by any chance mention why he wanted to see me?!
"No just said to call you, it's probably nothing"
"I hope not...thanks Sarah" i reply and make my way towards Dean's office
"Hey Imaani..so a couple of work friends and i usually hang out at this bar every Friday night so i was wondering if you'd like to come sometime doesn't have to be today" Sarah asked smiling
Thats rightt today is Friday.. thank goodness
"Sure Sarah I'd like too" i replied genuinely
"Cool let's exchange numbers" i gave her mine took hers and made my way to Mr Dean's office.
Knock knock
"Come in" he called from the other side
"Hi i was told you wanted to see me? "
"Yes Ms Cyrus please come in and have a seat" he beckoned
" Thank you sir" i stepped in and sat down
"So I'll cut straight to the chase...your article"

"What about it....Sir?" I asked calmly
"According to the boss it was good i don't see what the fuss is about over such a simple piece but the big boss liked it more among the rest. Personally i prefer Mr Cameron's piece more anyway as you know the person with the best piece gets the promotion which according to the big boss is you which also means your personal office and higher pay check" he said with a bored look while flipping through his news paper without even glancing at me. rude much
"The FUSS!! Bitch i worked my ass out on that piece and you know it, you're just mad cus i don't let you touch me inappropriately like you do with your Secretary...yes i know i see it Infact anybody with two working eyes can see it.. You're a married grown man for fucks sake act like it. Shame on you!. And to be honest i feel bad for your wife because she deserves better than your slimy ungrateful, lying, cheating ass. Now if you'd excuse me I'd like to make my way to my new office and extra check that i rightfully EARNED!" Imaani zoned out imagining herself saying that to Dean.
"Ms Cyrus!.. hello Imaani!" Mr Dean called out snapping his fingers in front of me
'Yes! Uh yes thank you very much sir i appreciate it" i rushed my words out wanting to get out of this annoying mans office. He's attitude and the way he looks at me is extremely disturbing.
On my way out Mr Dean calls his side chick Aka Emily the secretary to show me to my new office... i cant believe it my own personal office.
Enough of those damn cubicles and uncomfortable chairs. I'm big for God's sake cant they see that. Not everyone is as skinny as Emily.
Don't get me wrong i love love love my body, i mean some days i do and some days i just wish i could cut off the extra fat...

"So here's your new office someone will be bringing the rest of your belongings here from your old space...if you need anything else you know where to find me"

"Yeah sure thanks alot" i reply and she leaves me alone. I turn around and take it all in wow finally my own space and i earned it ughhhh i could scream rn

I spent the rest of the little time i had moving into my new office and arranging it to my taste. When i was satisfied i stood back to stare at my work and loved it. Picking up my bag i made my way to outside and got a taxi
With a loud sigh, I settled in and told the driver my destination while i relaxed for the rest of the drive.
In my bag i thought i felt my phone buzz but i brushed it of as my imagination and just ignored it and tried to enjoy the calming drive home.
But her phone did buzz.
