This was the question he was curious to know its answer.
"Why are you both quiet? Paxton's voice ate her up, she turned to Jaxton, her eyes filled with tears, he turned to his brother,
"It's bad to eavesdrop on a conversation"
"I try to mind my business but you two are not helping me do that, your voices got to me from my office," he said calmly, he turned swiftly to Sydney,
"I underestimated you. How close are you with my brother for him to know a secret of yours you badly don't want to tell anyone? He was playing mind games and Jaxton was aware of it. He had to step in before it was late
"Can you just stop? Paxton turned to him,
"And why should I?
"Because she was a friend of mine even before she got the job and that has got nothing to do with how she came here. We met here."
Paxton doesn't need to know what they are keeping but he was curious and partly jealous that his brother was so close off to this lady,
"Yes, we're friends and that's that," she said with finality.
"Well, that no my problem to worry about, I came to take the files home," he walks past her to her table and then grabbed the files before walking out, leaving the two confused.
"Did he just leave in his own Accord?" She asked, she thought he would have pressed in for answers.
"That's Paxton for you. He hates invading people's privacy as much as they do with his." He explains,
"Ohhh, very nice of him" she can't believe she praised him. She was relieved when Paxton left them.
"Since you're done for tonight, I came to pick you up for dinner" he winks causing her to laugh,
"Dinner? Again? What's with you and dinner with me these days? She asked,
"Well enjoy it whilst it last. So let's go?"
"Yh," she grabs her bag and they both left the office.
Next morning.........
Sydney walked into the lounge with high spirits, last night was superb. Her eyes fell on Miss Dana, seem disorganized that morning, Miss Dana was rarely disorganized, sChapter 8
Still, in a confused state, the secretary called out to her,
"Miss shepherd? Come take your appointment letter" lost beyond measure, she managed to get herself a stand then walked towards the counter,
"You're quite lucky, it wasn't the CEO themselves who interviewed you. They're both quite picky and have different expectations when it comes to hiring a new member." The lady smiled, signed on the paper then gives her to put her signature.
"They're twins?" She inquired, the lady looked at her,
"Haven't you heard of the white brothers? They're the heirs of the White household and both have a share of the company too" her mouth widened agape.
"Don't tell me you've not heard of them before?" Her brows twitched, looking intently at Sydney,
"What? How am I possibly supposed to meet them?" She faked a small laugh before signing her name.
"See you." The lady walked out just before She realize she didn't get to know her name.
Walking out of the building, Paxton stood close to the window, watching her board a taxi,
"what was she doing here of all places?" He thought deeply, she looked quite sober than the other night, he could tell just by a single look, she was pretty.
"Paxton?" His voice startled him bringing him out of his thoughts,
"Have you by any chance met her before? Jaxton sat comfortably, he knew she must have by chance mistook him for Jaxton.
"Why would I? We have virtually nothing in common" he defended, then he recalled the weird moment he saw them both, in the elevator,
"You know her? What kind of girl is she?" Paxton knew the girls who often hang around his brother were all nothing but touts, was she one of his bedroom chicks? He frowned at the thought of this,
"Yes, I know her but not what you're thinking." He smirked, standing up, Paxton's eyes immediately followed him,
"Where are you going to? We have a meeting with the Taiwan investors?" Jaxton turned swiftly to him,
"You're good at this stuff, I am not." And with that, he walked out.
"That son of a ....." He held his breath, then took a deep breath. He turned his gaze to the window when she had successfully flagged down a taxi and was getting into it,
"What's your identity really, Sydney Shepherd?" He asked no one in particular watching the taxi driver out of the company driveway.
The door opened, Dana walked in,
"Sir, the Taiwan investors have arrived. And they are waiting for you in the conference room." Paxton sighs, his brother has yet again missed another potential meeting.
"Ok then, tell the human resources to gather all the files and head there, take this with you" he hands over the blue spiral bounded file to her,
"I'll then soon, give me a few minutes." He says she walks out closing the door behind him, and he falls his back to the chair, sighing.
Sydney walked into her apartment, the still and quiet aura hugged her, she throws her purse onto the small couch and walked to the kitchen to grab a glass of water.
Opening the fridge, the water was not at all chill, she felt others but nothing, it was then she realized her electricity had been cut off from her apartment. She sighs removing her shoes, and slides into her flip-flop, entering her room, she removed her clothes and went to have her shower,
"Jaxton and Paxton? Dammn! You're screwed, Sydney?" She ran her hands through her head.
Coming out of the bathroom, it then occurred to her that she could search them up on social media, sitting on her bed in the flora-designed nightgown, she rammed through the internet, another world that seems to know everyone,
"There it is!" She clicked on a blog and read within herself,
" Paxton and his younger twin brother, Paxton had agreed to run their company together as co-CEOs after their father passed away and handed it to them but it was Paxton who took care of most of the office business while Jaxton usually traveled around for business but had fun while he was at it." She gasped,
"They're so identical to tell them apart, how do I know?" She sighs, searching all night made her quite sleepy, and soon the darkness hovered over her.
Next morning.........
She stood at the front door taking deep breaths, she walked in approached the counter,
"Hey there, you're quite early, very impressive" the lady smiled,
"Yes, sorry didn't get to know your name," returning the smile Sydney asked.
"Dana Adams. But you can call me Dana." Dana beamed.
"So where's the marketing department? " Looking around, the front door opened and both CEOs walked in, the room though silent, the squealing from other females could be heard, and their dazzling walking step as a duo made them more attractive, Paxton's gaze jammed with hers, and she immediately broke off the contact, she swiftly turned to Miss Dana
"I'll locate the Marketing department" she rushed to the elevator, as soon as she sensed them approaching Dana's table. Inside the elevator, she heaved a deep sigh of relief.
The elevator immediately opened, she walked out, marveled at how pretty the building looked upstairs,
"Excuse me!" in split seconds she was out of the way of the guy carrying a box filled with files, he turned to her,
"Are you Sydney Shepherd?"
"Yes sir," wondering how he got to her name,
He laughs," your resume was submitted to me yesterday," he dropped the box on the table behind her,
"Follow me," she Instantly followed him,
"This is your table, that's your ID which you must have on at all times, there's a penalty that comes with it when you don't have it on. But first, am your supervisor, James."
"Good morning Mr. James" she squeal, he was quite friendly to be her supervisor,
"Take this, and photocopy it, after you're done, meet me in my office. Chop chop!" He claps,
"This early?" She grunts, he turned his eyes to her, and she smiles,
"On it!" Walking back to the elevator, as soon as the elevator opens, about to walk out when her head bumped into someone's hard chest, causing her to lose her balance, but caught before her butt met with the ground, closing her eyes tight, she slowly opened them to meet the charming eyes, she could head heels over,
"Sir Jax-Paxton?" Words messed up in her head,
"What's all this?" Her subconscious screamed.he walked up to her counter,
"Hi, Miss Dana. What seems to be the problem this morning? You don't seem fine." Miss Dana as everyone called was a married woman, almost in her late thirties but she was a widower, and to always make her feel young, everyone addressed her as Miss Dana.
"Oh Sydney. I suggest you stay out of his way today. He seems out of it" she arched her brows.
"Huh? He's always perfect with everything what happened?" She sneered, Miss Dana glared at her,
"What? He's always a snub."
"Sydney?" She called.
"Sorry" she laughs.
"He's looking for a file, you worked on yesterday. It bared the Taiwan investors' marketing strategy"
"Yh, I gave it to him probably he missed placed it," I sneer,
"Go help him look for it"
Huh? But" Miss Dana shot her a glare, she sighs then walked into the elevator, heading to his office, she opened the door, and the scene shocked her,
The place looked like a place hurricane passed through, his jacket was off and tie loosened, and he was sweating and out of breath despite the Air-conditioning.
"Good morning, Sir. Miss Dana said you were....?
"Get out!" He was pissed, up the fact that she was with his brother last night pissed him off,
"But sir,?
"Sydney Shepherd can you just let me be!!! It's not like you're of any use to this company. Very incompetent and lazy !!! Your presence irritates me a lot. So do me the honors and get your filthy self out of my office!!!" She Froze, this was the first time someone had talked so down on her but this hurts, her chest was breeding pain from his hurtful words, hot tears accustomed her eyes,
"Are you close to anything kind? I do not know what I did to you for you to hate me this much!! I am not incompetent!!! You are the one whose incompetent!!! You sit behind those chairs a d other us around like we're your slaves!!! Paxton White!! You are cold-hearted and hold no emotions. Your soul is as black as ebony! Nonsense!" And at this moment Sydney also got angry and exploded catching Paxton off guard Sydney realize what she has done but it was too late.
She panicked when she realized she has went too far. She saw Paxton's cold expression and knew she was in trouble.
"I see you have the guts now, find that file or you'll lose your job" his voice was calm but deep, and with that, he walked out banging the door so hard that it startled her. Knowing, how hard she worked to get this job and she didn't wanna lose it
She began searching from his office to hers even to the trash bin. Jaxton called her as usual and he wouldn't hear any excuse if she didn't pick up,
"Hello?"
"Hey, are you going to be free today?"
"I can't."
"Why?" He frowned at the other side, she explained everything that transpired and his brother's threat.
"How can I help you?"Jaxton offered to help but she refused.
"No, don't worry. What would people think when they see you help me out? Don't worry I'd be fine" she added
"Are you sure?" He wanted to make sure, but she replied,
"I am fine." She then hung up and looked around,
"Where the hell are you this file" she cussed, she was already tired.
She searched for the entire day and found nothing, she was already drained and about to give up when Jaxton walked in,
"Don't look for it anymore" he says simply,
"You don't under do you, Jaxton? My life depends on that file" she was almost on the verge of tears,
"I came to tell you that Paxton had already found the file. Paxton found it in midday and did not tell you" he explained,
"Even the meeting is done already. So take a rest. I figured you would still be looking for it while I was in the meeting." he added, after what she heard the annoyance grew but she t took it in.
She already knew Paxton didn't tell her on purpose he wanted to punish her.
"Go home and rest, you have eye bags already" Jaxton had to let Sydney be for today.
She head home, took a hot bath, and soon landed on her bed, she was swamped with work
"I haven't had a good rest since I started working for the Whites." She had no choice anyway it was better than stripping, tears filled her eyes, she was frustrated and Paxton was not helping matters amidst the tears she fell into a deep slumber.
