Chapter 37
Maris
Maris' breathing accelerated, so did her heart beat. Her muscles tensed and she vibrated, palms balled into fists. The sight of Dracula gripping Logan's throat set her soul on fire.
Abruptly, she broke the chain around her wrist, turned and grasped the neck of the vampire that was refraining her from going over to Dracula.
"Dracula!" Her voice sounded like a whistle, causing the vampires to whine, hands covering their ears. "Leave him alone or I'll kill him!"
Dracula dryly looked at her like he was bored to death–saying, "Really?"
His brows arched and Maris had a firm grip on the vampire's neck who gasped for air. Her eyes turned eerily black. The strength in her multiplied as she gritted her teeth and was slowly raising the vampire with his neck.
Dracula wasn't in anyway bothered. He continued to tighten his grip, closing up Logan's windpipe.
The fact it didn't make Dracula flinch made her frustrated. Lucy would have been her target if she wasn't guarded by five guards, but Maris noticed something strange. Lucy was the only one who wasn't enchanted by her voice, how was that possible?
Maris shoved the thought off, feeding the demon in her with anger. She flung the vampire and he crashed on a tree then slipped into an unconscious state.
She marched to where Dracula was with a gaze that never faltered.
"Let him go." She ordered, using her siren power and raising her fingers so she could control his body. "Now!"
Dracula released Logan immediately and fell on his knees, raking his fingers in his hair furiously as he shivered next to Logan who had slumped on the ground.
Maris' eyes brightened, it was working. She could set herself free. The sirens and vampires stood metres away and just watched everything that was going on, under her manipulative spell.
Slowly, Dracula got to his feet with his arms hanging loosely beside his body. A blank expression on his face before a devilish grin crept up his lips. He pushed his head back, a mocking laugh escaped his mouth as he bent slightly, glued his palms to his knees to catch his breath.
A frown creased her brows and her head bent so she could scan her body just to see if she was a clown or something.
Her eyes returned to their normal gray color and she opened her palms wide, taking an eyeful of them and muttered, "It didn't work on him, but why?"
"Because I am a demon sweetie. I got my powers from the devil, the king of darkness and I–" Dracula stopped to beat his chest, showering praises on himself. "–am almost as strong as the devil."
Maris' joints felt weak as disappointed crusted her face. She had failed Logan who laid unconsciously on the floor. Her shoulders fell and she slouched with a downcast gaze.
The others got off the enchantment. They shook their heads and massaged their temples, wondering what had happened.
"I'll spare him, wanna know why?" Dracula's voice broke the silence him and Maris shared after her heart sank.
She looked up, a little glint of Hope in her eyes and mouthed, "Why?"
Disappointment had taken her voice and clogged her throat.
"Because I have a heart and wouldn't imagine what I'll be like if Lucy was killed in front of me." Dracula stated, walking to a nearby tree and taking down his zipper to pee.
Maris rushed to where Logan was and placed his head on her laps, lips wobbling as she became teary at the sight of him laying lifelessly on her laps. His lashes hugged each other and she could tell how stressed he had been by just looking at his face.
She caressed his pale skin and shook him slightly, leaning in to listen to his heart beat. He was alive!
A Triton and a vampire bent to pick Maris up–She was doing a very good job at keeping her tears tucked inside her eyes.
Two other people, one from each kingdom picked Logan up and they commenced their journey, journey to where? Maris had no idea, but they were moving to safety, according to what a Triton had said.
"Who are you?" Maris asked the Triton who was in front of her and assisting to carry Logan, but there was no reply. He only glanced over his shoulders at her. "Please, he needs water or something. Help him."
No reply. She stopped in her tracks, a scowl on her face as she felt insulted for the second time.
"Move!" Linda shoved Maris and she threw a death glare her way.
"Hey, don't rough handle her. Why so bitter?" A siren asked, her green hair moving effortlessly in the calm breeze as she stood up for Maris, striding in between Linda and her.
"None of your business." Linda hissed.
The siren rolled her eyes, before holding on to Maris' arm. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," dry toned Maris. "Help me so he wouldn't die." Maris pointed at Logan's body and the siren flashed a sympathetic look at Maris.
"He wouldn't die. He'll be fine, just give him some hours and he'll be up." She reassured Maris.
"Okay," Maris said, trying to suppress her curiosity, but that was impossible. It sprang up and she fed it. "Who is Egon and are you truly sirens, am I really one?"
"Yes." The woman's green eyes glowed under the moonlight and Maris admired them. "Egon is our leader for now, since we lost you."
"We?"
"Sirens. Look at this," she pointed at her wrist and Maris noticed it had the same symbol as hers. A full stop surrounded by six commas just like the sun. "It's a prove we're sirens from the Criadora kingdom."
The siren pinched herself and rubbed ever slowly on the symbol and Maris winced, glancing down at her own wrist to see her symbol glowing yellow.
"Why is that happening and why does it burn a little?" Maris caressed her wrist, taking baby steps behind the mixed kingdoms.
"Another way to call for help." Her small lips moved and she walked away after Egon called for her.
When they had arrived at a certain location, they decided they were going to spend the night there.
The sirens and vampires were in good terms as they dined, roasting and eating the antelope they had haunted down together.
Maris had chosen to go into the tent and eat so she could watch her consort. Her gaze wandered off and she zoned into one of her trances.
"Maris." Logan's voice rode the air to Maris' ears and she spun immediately with a leaf that she had been using as a plate for her meat.
"Logan?" She called, eyes becoming glossy as she ran towards Logan who was trying to sit up, throwing away her dinner.
Maris hugged him. The force, almost sending him to the ground, but he still had a little strength in him. His hands were hanging by his sides at first, before he wrapped them around Maris and dug his face into her nape. He took a lungful of her scent, missing every inch of her.
"I missed you so much!" Maris cried and Logan squeezed her even tighter.
He pulled out of the hug, cupped her face and drew her head close to his lips; whispering, "I missed you more, Ris."
He planted a kiss on her forehead and drew her back so she could rest her head on his chest.
"Are you okay?" He flinched like he had remembered something. He pushed her off his chest softly and inspected her body for any bruises. "Are you hurt, what happened to you? I looked for you everywhere."
"I was lured to Dracula by Linda. I shouldn't have trusted her. I should have listened to you." Maris lamented, hating the predicament she had put herself in. "Because of me your people were in danger, imagine Dracula had gotten into your kingdom?"
"Shh." Logan held an index finger to her lips and brushed her plump bottom lip with his thumb, staring hungrily it. "It's okay, it wasn't entirely your fault even if you're a stubborn head."
"Hey!" She smacked his chest and he chuckled, wincing a little and caressing where she had hit. "Oh," Maris covered her mouth with both hands, "I'm sorry."
"Wait, I was dreaming Dracula defeated us and we're camping with the brotherhood of Oberon kingdom right?" Logan questioned and Maris took her time to give him a reply, not wanting to bruise his ego.
"No... It wasn't a dream and we're with vampires and sirens as we speak."
Logan's expression changed and his face mirrored acrimony as he surveyed the area.
"That shouldn't have happened," Logan started; about to get to his feet, but Maris hugged him and sat on his laps to avoid more problems. "I'm the alpha, I shouldn't-"
Maris cut Logan short by aggressively planting her lips on Logan's. His eyes widened then they slowly fluttered shut.

Maris was asleep in her sleeping bag. The air still smelt of roasted antelope and it wafted into her nose–she gulped down saliva and turned, but was thrown aback.
She snapped her eyes wide open the moment she felt a presence. Maris was about to scream when she saw a figure in front of her; but a big hand clasped her mouth, causing her to swallow her scream with a heart, caged in fear. Cold water ran down her spine.
