Chapter 3
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY Olivia!!!!!"Everybody screamed as soon as Olivia walked into the class.
"Is today my birthday ??"She asked with an expression of surprise and feigning forgetfulness.
"Don't mind me joor,awwwn thanks you guys,you all remembered muaaah!!"She said blowing kisses in the air to us.
"Lest I forget, I'm holding a birthday party/pool party by 2:30PM to celebrate so you all are invited"She screamed.
"Osheeey,birthday girl"Ifeyinwa said hailing her.
"I can't wait to eat cake "I said laughing
"You and food sef"Olivia replied while laughing.
"Ehn,leave it "I giggled.
Friday was the perfect day for her party because we close from school every Friday by 1:30 PM.When I got home I took my bath and relaxed alittle while preparing the speech to tell my mum about my outing although that won't be a problem since my brother is going to the party so I will be allowed to go as well.
I wore a simple red short gown with sleet ends and a jean jacket then wore my favorite sandals,I took my swimsuit along with a scarf.After dressing up, I headed to my mum's room.
I knocked on my mum's room to inform her of my outing,she just got back from work.
"Good evening Mummy"I greeted her
"Good evening,this one you are dressed,where are you going to?"She asked accessing me.
"Well,mum, Olivia is holding a party to celebrate her birthday so I came to ask for permission,you can call her parents if you want to and also Nero(My brother's middle name)is going so...."I said explaining to her.
"Okay then,you can go "She replied granting me permission.
"Thanks so much Mum"I thanked her while leaving her room to inform Olivia that am coming to the party.
I wouldn't want to be that Best friend who misses her bestie's birthday party.My brother was already ready so we left the house quite early before my mum changes her mind.
We got to Olivia's house,it was a big mansion with tiled fence and electric barb wire on it,her parents are rich so they are worth it.Everybody had arrived at her house,some were downstairs in the sitting room,some were in the pool area doing different activities,there was music,drinks and of course cake,her parents wasn't around for the night party,they had to travel for an important meeting,they had celebrated with her in the morning .I went straight to Olivia's room leaving my brother with his friends,I knocked the door twice but no response,I could hear some noise,I was scared so I barged into the room.
"Biiiirthday girl...are you okay"I asked but my statement was cut short by what I saw.
She was making out with a guy from Commercial class,I quickly apologized when it was dawned on me I ruined their moment.
"I'm sorry I barged in,I was worried"I apologized.
"Emm..is okay Mich,this is Kevin"She replied feeling awkward.
He left shortly after she introduced him to me.There was an awkward silence which lasted for some minutes,I had to break the silence.
"So Kevin uh?You are making out on your birthday,bad girl!!"I said jokingly.
"Nooo,we don't have a thing together,we just helped each other out"She explained.
"Naso,abeg let's go downstairs joor,the host of the party is keeping herself busy while her guests are bored as hell "I replied jokingly.
As soon we got downstairs,Emmanuella led a loud cheer to welcome Birthday girl, Olivia was looking breathtaking,she had makeup on with her hair styled into a bun,she wore a silver short gown with glass heels and a sash with Birthday Girl inscribed on it.
Ifeyinwa gathered us around and brought up the idea of playing Spin The Bottle for those interested,I wasn't too comfortable with this idea but I had no choice,so we gathered around and started playing.
Daniel was the first to spin the bottle,it landed facing Kim,a girl from Science class.
"Truth or Dare?"Daniel asked.
"Truth"She grinned.
"What is the nastiest thing you have done?"He asked while smiling mischievously the whole time.
"I made out in church with a guy"She answered nervously.
Her reply got different kind of reactions,I was surprised at the guts she had,Emmanuella was the first to speak.
"Hmm,you get mind o"Nuella raising her thumb hailing her.
Kim spinned the bottle and it landed towards the direction of Ifeyinwa,she was asked to choose Truth or Dare,she picked Truth.
"Do you have a crush in our school,if Yes who is he?"Kim asked.
"Haba,Kim one question at a time na,do you want to finish the girl"Tobi complained feigning annoyance.
They were about to argue when Ifeyinwa intervened and answered the question.
"Guys,no need to argue,I'm okay with the questions,Yes,I do have a crush in our school"Ifeyinwa said half blushing.
"My crush is Jace"She finally confessed blushing hard after a while of suspense.
After her confession,I didn't know whether to be angry, sad or happy for her as a friend,I wasn't sure of the emotion to feel.The game continued with different confessions made and dangerous dares like lap dances, drinking alcohol,showing parts of your body etc.
All these while I always picked Truth to be on the safer side and now the bottle was spinned again and it landed towards my direction,I was asked by Olivia to pick Truth or Dare,I choose Truth as usual but I got alot of complains from my classmates.
"Michy,don't make this game boring na,is it only truth truth,you will always pick,choose Dare joore"Phillip complained.
My classmates supported him and I had to pick Dare and things were about to go down.
"So Mich baby,I dare you....."Olivia said smiling mischievously and speaking with her eyebrows. I was wondering what she was up to but I knew she was going to do something horrible.
"To do what na"I snapped at her.
"To kiss the guy you have a crush on"She finally said knowing fully well that will be an impossible task.
Olivia happens to be the only one who knows about my ex-crush on Jace and she was about to bring that feeling back but I wasn't going to let that happen based on the fact that Ifeyinwa just confessed her feelings for Jace,I wouldn't want to look like a bad friend in front of everybody so I was forced to do something I was going to regret.
I stood up and walked towards the direction of Tobi who was sitting close to Jace,He(Jace) actually thought I was walking towards him,I could see the happiness in his eyes but I couldn't help but wonder why.
I kissed Tobi,the worst mistake I have ever made which was going to cause a lot of problems later on.
I kissed Tobi in front of everyone with the big lie that he is my crush,I could feel eyes on me but one I could feel and see was that anger, surprise and disappointment.
I quickly left for the pool so that I could be alone to think of my action and it's consequences and besides things were already awkward because of my action,Olivia was running behind me,trying to gain my attention I didn't give her a listening ear I just wanted to be left alone or probably go home. I sat close to the pool still thinking of my action when I felt a hand on my shoulder,it was Olivia.
"What are you doing here?You are supposed to be with your guests you know"I forced a smile.
"Well,we are about to cut the cake and is also getting late"She replied trying to force me back inside.
"Okay then,I will be there shortly"I lied looking at the pool.
"I know you are not coming,you are obviously lying and is because of the kiss right"She said feeling concerned.
"Do you really like Tobi because I know you did it because of Ife....."She was about to finish her statement when I cut her short.
"Oli,I know you are worried about me but I don't want to talk about it besides there is nothing to worry about"I stated with a fake smile on my face.
She left after awhile,I felt empty I didn't know why because am not supposed to be thinking of a boy knowing fully well that I have to pursue my dreams to make my mum proud but I felt as if I broke someone's heart,my thoughts were cut short again by a male figure sitting next to me,it was Tobi.
"Hey you"Tobi said punching my arm.
"Ouch!I wish that hurt"I replied emotionless.
"Wasup with you,few minutes ago you kissed me as your crush and now you are acting cold to me,isn't this supposed to be the best opportunity for us to date,I mean I like you and you like me,so what are we waiting for?"He said hoping for an opportunity to make us an item.
I was already irritated by my actions and now his presence
arrrhh!!!
Calm down,the best thing to do as a teenager is to ignore him and walk away from him to avoid argument and hurtful words,you don't want to ruin your friend's birthday,Do you? My inner voice said to me.
I decided to listen to my subconscious and walk away,it was 6:42 PM and I wanted to go home badly,I told Olivia I was leaving,she gave me some sweets and cake to take home.
Now it was time to look for my brother,I saw him standing with Jace looking for someone,I walked towards their direction.
"Hey,are you guys looking for me ? I'm right here,Mason can we please go home, I'm tired"I told my brother.
We were leaving but it seemed that Jace wasn't going to go home today,he was going to have a sleepover at our house.
Wow!!!Great!! remind me that tonight is going to be the worst night of my life
We got home and met Maya in the living room watching Toy Story 3 on her laptop.
"Welcome back,my darling siblings and Jace,oya where is my cake,no cake no room entry"She said jingling our room keys in our faces.
"You are not serious,give me my keys joor,am so tired,infact take the cake sef"I said giving her the cake wrapped in foil.
I asked Maya of mum and she said she was asleep,I walked straight to my room hoping to do the same,Thank Goodness tomorrow is Saturday.
I jumped on my bed, shutting my eyes to allow darkness take me to the land of dreams and sweet sleep.
It was disrupted by a knock on my door.
