Chapter 34 Reckless and Relentless
Serenity's POV
I stood outside in the garden, looking up at the moon.
It has been a week since they left, and it wasn’t making me any more calm knowing that the war had started about an hour ago.
I wrapped my arms around me, over my belly, which seems to be starting to show signs of a baby bump.
I guess Eric is right, I need to have a check-up if this is going this fast.
“I came as soon as I heard.”
I stiffened, I knew that voice anywhere. I turned around and saw Rham standing by the door, out of breath and looking at me relieved.
“What- what are you doing here?” I asked.
“I came to see you…” then he glanced at my stomach, “and our child-“
“No,” I said. “Stay away from me, Rham.”
“Serenity please, you need to get out of here, it isn’t safe for you here-“
“No!” I shouted at him, “I trusted you Rham, I trusted you and you didn’t deserve it.”
“Serenity, I know, and I’m sorry and-“
“Your sorry?” I gave a sarcastic laugh, “Sorry will not make things better, Rham! You make me feel that Eric didn’t love me, that he wouldn’t save me. Now all I want is for him to forgive me, though he had told me so many times that I did nothing wrong. But I know I did! And that was to trust you.”
“Serenity, please, I’m not here to argue, I want to straighten my mistakes and-“
“That’s a little too late now, don’t you think?” I asked.
“Serenity, he’s coming for you!” he snapped, “He’s coming for you and our child…”
“What?” I wrapped my arm around my torso again as if protecting my child.
“They heard about you being pregnant, and they thought that it’s Eric’s. Now they want you and the child…” he swallowed the lump on his throat, “they think she’s the next daughter of the moon.”
I shook my head, “No…”
“Yes.”
My eyes widened and turned around, in an instant, I was in pain as I look down and saw him shove his hand through my skin, straight into my stomach. I felt him tug inside me, making me scream.
“Serenity!” I hear Rham say.
Yuri pulled out his bloody hand and in his palm laid a little part of me, covered with blood, dead.
“Serenity!” Rham ran to my side, but Yuri caught him by the neck.
“You little bastard.” He hissed at him. “Your father wouldn’t survive tonight anyway, you have no use to anyone now.”
With that, I hear bone-breaking and a thud. I turned and saw Rham’s dead body beside me.
“Where’s all that spirit of yours princess?” Yuri stood over me, “You use to be more fun, do you know that?”
He then raised his bloody hand to his lips and licked it. “Hm, the hunters are right, you do taste as sweet as honey.” He smirked and sat over my torso, pushing away the hair from my face and neck. he ran his hand down my cheek and neck.
“Wonder what your blood’s effect on me,” he says before he leaned forward to my neck.
I try to raise my arms but my whole body couldn’t move, and the pain was too great for me to be able to use my mind to fight back or even to just shield me.
I felt him lick the side of my neck and then blew on it, I feel my eyes sting as tears start to swell up. I can feel the edge of his fangs on my skin, scraping against it. But before he can pursue with his plan he has roughly pushed away from me.
“Stay away from her.” I hear Gelya hissed.
“Ah, my dear daughter, I see that you have taken a leaf out of your mother’s book.”
“You have done enough damage here,” she said, “leave her be.”
“Are you sure it’s wise to go against me Gelya?” he asked.
“I’m not going against you father,” Gelya says, “I’m just saving our kind from paying a mistake you are about to make.”
“A mistake?” he laughs, “This is history, love! It has been like this for years-“
“No.” Gelya snapped, “We were happy before you were blindly persuaded by that hunter to join him and kill Serenity. For a long time, vampires and werewolves had lived in peace and now- just for a moment of glory, you want to take that away?”
“Its not just a moment of glory, Gelya,” he shook his head, “Its years of glory, our kind had waited so long for this moment, to weaken and beat the werewolves. When she dies, then they will be nothing but a figment of everyone’s imagination and a character in fairytale stories.”
“No.” Gelya sneered, “All you are proving is how selfish and heartless vampires are. Wanting everything to equal immortality that none of us want.”
“None of us want?” he laughed, “If I am not mistaking you came to me asking for this-“
“I asked for death!” she shouted, “I asked for death yet you found it amusing to have a half breed as a daughter- a daughter.” she paused and stared at him, “I didn’t know why you did that, but I knew I am thankful. I was happy and not once did you make me feel different from you. But to kill the person who I owe my life to before I met you, I can never forgive you for that.”
Yuri just stared at her for a moment then he glanced back at me.
“She’s dying, Gelya, it's worthless to have this anger and-“
“It isn’t if it will teach you to be content of what you have, father,” Gelya says. “You have lost a son and now a daughter. You are alone, again.”
He shook his head, “I still have your mother-“
“She was never yours,” Gelya says, pity oozing in her voice, “she gave in to what you want thinking that you will fulfill your end of the bargain. But after this…” she stopped there.
Yuri then took a step back and slowly back out, his eyes reflected anger and sadness.
“Serenity!” I felt someone pick me up and Anna’s scent came to me, I looked up at her. “Serenity, are you ok?”
“She’s fine,” Gelya answered. “She’s healing.”
We looked down my torso and saw that my wounds were indeed closing up.
“Who are you?” Anna asked Gelya, her voice a hint of a protective mother.
“I’m a friend,” Gelya says, Anna was about to answer, when I reached for her hand and gave it a squeeze, she looked down at me and understood.
“A friend of Serenity is welcome to the house of her mate.” Anna says, “I am Anna.”
“Gelya,” she looked around and then picked me up, I bit my lip in pain. “sorry, but the mortal boy is right, you can’t be outside, you will be an easy target.”
“W- why…” I stuttered.
“Mother sent me.” she answered, “we found out of their plan, and I left as soon as I could. Mother stayed behind.” she frowned, “She said the boys will need her there.”
I frowned, “Liam…”
“It’s time that he knows.” She says as we finally reached my room, where Anna led us.
“Serenity, he hit you on the stomach-“
I looked away from them, rolling to my side.
“I’m sorry, Serenity,” Gelya says, “I know that that child will remind you nothing but the bad memories, but you loved her still. I’m sorry that you lost her.”
Hearing this, tears found their way back up and out of my eyes again. I shook underneath the blankets and cried. Feeling Anna hug me tight, supporting me in silence, holding me together.
